I forget the "brand" of these. Wasn't a"toseek" I've had a couple of those. The 2nd one has an all CF steerer that's very thick walled. Prior one was a carbon/glass sandwich similar to this one, but probably thicker. I'm not too worried about these, especially given that most of my use is for recumbents so there's no real force being applied perpendicular to the steerer.

Not perfect, but a good upgrade so far. Bumps are much easier to ride over with this seat which seems crazy but it is true. I go longer without discomfort. But I do get some after a while. That is typical for me my butt hurts sitting in my Honda Accord or in my Chrysler minivan too. The tight fit for the passenger seat is not an issue for filling up. There is a slight Gap at the front right behind the frunk which bugs me a little bit to look at. I have no aftermarket seats to which to compare it. I would say if the original seat was a 6 or 7 out of 10 this one is an eight or nine.

As for a template and pre bending I think you would be hard-pressed to get it any closer than it comes. I might suggest just measuring the distance between the bolts center to center and seeing how that compares between the rack and the bike. That way you might be able to spread or compress the sides a couple of millimetersif needed before you put it on.

I like the rock well enough. It is very sturdy. That's also un intrusive although sometimes I worry about how it might block oblique views of the tail light brake light. The paint job on mine wasn't flawless. Some of the corners and edges some of my handling took it off so I touched it up with gloss paint and that shows in the video. If I had had more time and energy I would have bought a can of matte black and hit it outdoors for an extra coat.

The key is to just get the screws started then tighten them a little bit at a time alternating in a Criss-Cross pattern. Be careful with the hex wrench when removing the originals because mine were really tight and my hex wrench skinned the plastic of one of the grab bars. My first cosmetic flaw. I hit that up with some sharpie that made it invisible.
@SethJayson
@SethJayson Ай бұрын
It does come with longer hex screws and washers. The holes line up pretty well it's just that the structure is something of a spring and you have to pull it open and line up several holes at once to get things going. With a helper and being careful not to strip the inserts it wasn't that bad

Seth, I've been considering this rear rack and looking forward to this video since your "quick look" video over the winter. I've noted that others have had problems with holes lining up on non-OEM racks and was wondering if a hole template made of cardboard or other material might help by pre-bending the steel before mounting. By the way, it looks like they modified the design a little on the side struts since your purchase according to their website. Did they supply longer bolts with the rack to accommodate the rack and handles?

Very nice! I really like the seat design. Hope it's comfortable. Let us all know after you've been planted on it for more than a hour or two. I wasn't familiar with the Thunder Box, so I'll be looking into that. Very interesting and affordable. I've looked at numerous power distribution gadgets and none of them impressed me due either to the cost, the size/proportions or a combination of all the former.

Oh yeah it's RAGBAI. We call it ragride just to see how may people will "akshwally..." us. We've bagged it on our expeditions too. Mini is a great bike, not fast, very comfy -- way better than the trike on bumpy stuff and gravel. Handles luggage a lot better too. Expedition with full bags is really tail-heavy and wags a lot until you *really* smooth out your pedal stroke. It's akin to the first few days of learning to ride the trike and smoothing away the pedal steer. Much easier to ride the mini on the narrower-shoulder rural roads -- takes less space, none of that trying to negotiate the rumble strip between one side wheel and the rear, etc. Downside is you can't just park it under a tree and nap in it!

Correction....awesome KZbin Video! Just purchased a 2022 NC750 and now embarking on upgrades and mods. This is exactuly what I was looking for so thank you very much! I'm guessing you went with the TB-U02. I'm likely going with the TB-U01 as I suspect 5 powered accessories will be more than enough. Question..... Is there anything wrong or problematic with the factory Type C USB port in the Frunk? I need to put a cable, but I'm I don't see why NC owners aren't taking advantage of this supplied power port. Thanks again!
@SethJayson

There's nothing wrong with the factory supplied one that I can think of the reason I went with this one is because it looked like the installation would be much simpler right to the thunder box
@SethJayson
@SethJayson 3 ай бұрын
Also it was a lot cheaper and it has more ports built in and the USBC is the high-powered kind and I don't know that the factory one can do that

Ordered a top sellerie seat pair, and likely going to get suspension done (better rear shock, emulators up front) at a shop some time over the summer. Too nice a bike not to max the comfort even if it costs a bit.

We have used the stock schwalbe marathon plus 47mm as you see here on lots of gravel. It's not terrible. What is a very heavy tire. But it is pretty much cut and puncture proof. What made you pick this particular brand & model outta the zillion recumbents out there?
@SethJayson
@SethJayson 6 ай бұрын
Well there are no longer a zillion different recumbents available. Almost every United States recumbent manufacturer is gone. We wanted these because I was looking for a bike that would be bomb-proof for any kind of travel. Fully suspended azubs fit that bill. Moreover the team at azub was willing to create a brand new frame folding and separation design. As far as I know these are two of the only three of them ever made. These are very comfortable bikes and they can carry any load but they are fairly heavy.
@SethJayson
@SethJayson 6 ай бұрын
If you look at my other videos you will see that I designed some carbon fiber recumbents and they are much lighter and smaller and when taken apart will fit in a standard airline suitcase. Those will likely be the bikes we take on any shorter term overseas tours. But if I had to choose a bike to travel around the world anywhere on any surface it would be this azub.

Honda's up at the cabin, where it's still winter, so not on the bike yet. I'm also still trying to come up with a plan to make a quick-release system for a Harbor Fright dry case. It would screw down with m8s easy enough (holes are already there!) but a QR system I could get to easily from outside would be nice.

It really was a gorgeous snake especially with that weird color morph that apparently is not all that common. It was also really chill. After we all filed past I got a very long stick and encouraged it to go hunt somewhere else that wasn't like a foot off a popular hiking trail so hopefully nobody would get bitten and no snakes would get whacked. It just turned and slid away into the bushes and barely even gave a rattle.

Maybe not the npt threads looked fairly clean but there was a decent amount of calcium call over the bung and plug. Just about every video I have seen shows people really struggling to get these out and I don't have room for a breaker bar back there anyway so I didn't take any chances. I greatly appreciate this video. The devil's advocate approach would be one of questioning whether parts that are micro-flexing with carbo paste are getting worn. This might be something that could happen on the periphery of joints, but it would have to be substantiated by real world usage. One thing I'm looking for and haven't seen yet is a comparison of how much friction carbo paste adds to joints as opposed to not using it. That would be nice to see. In other words, it'd be neat to use lower and lower torque settings and see at what point a post might start to twist when assembled "dry" as opposed to with carbo paste.
@SethJayson
@SethJayson 7 ай бұрын
Yeah I haven't tested that directly because I would really really need to crank on a few things probably past my ability to measure the torque. However the difference in holding power is substantial. I have clamped boom tubes on our carbon fiber recumbents. Without the paste they do not stand a chance of resisting twisting forces under pedaling loads. With paste, it is all fine, at lower torque values on the clamp screws.
@peedee4065
@peedee4065 7 ай бұрын
@@SethJayson Thanks for your reply, Seth. I think you misunderstood my idea of a test: have two carbon clamped assemblies, one with carbo paste and one without. Both are torqued to the same typical 5nm. You try and twist both assemblies with some set amount of force. Any movement? No? Then you retorque both to 4nm. Repeat the twist try. Then retorque to 3nm. And so forth to show how carbo paste maintains holding power much better than a dry assembly. The question is how the two assemblies compare and how low can one go in torque?! There's no doubt the carbo paste works. The question I'm not seeing anyone address is scientific, measurable demonstration of to what extent it works.

After that trade-in change to Forza300 use about close to 3 yrs & feel boring and scooter maintenance cost freaking high , higher than my previous NC. When at bike shop doing upgrade of the CVT , the salesman asking me whether want to trade in change new bike , i stuck in-between Forza 750 & NC750XD. Cause trade in value , almost cover up 85% when i bought the scooter, really a good deal. End up, change back to NC750XD , DCT version , really love it. Now rode about 20days , mileage clock about 1.5k , no regret back to NC family.😊

I have used your video many times over the years to fix my 1034d sergers. I like them because they are cheap and I can fix a lot of the problems. We use them for our business. Just back to fix something today. The timing is a very common issue, the motors also die after awhile. Easy to replace motor, but Brother doesn't sell them to the public any more. I recently learned you don't need to unscrew the two bolts on the handle to get the front panel cover off, just loosen the screw on the two little thread guide bars for the lower looper on the bottom front and then remove the screw to the right of it and the cover pops off. Just pop it back in gently with your fingers at the top to reassemble. Just wanted to say thank you for making this video, it's saved me a ton of money and time. P.S. my sewing machine repair guy isn't very nice either. He charges an arm and a leg and it takes weeks to get your machine back. Cheaper to just buy another machine.
