Thanks for this very detailed and thorough walkthru! I inherited an irrigation system and nothing is labelled. After watching this, I decided to order a completely new manifold with 4 brand new valves... and with ronald's comment below, I will be inspecting each valve prior to installation to confirm they were assembled correctly.

very good tutorial on how to clean and inspect your valve! Mine are 30 years old and I had a pebble in the valve! I flushed it out, cleaned up the diaphragm and it works again flawlessly! I forgot the spring as I put it back together and chuckled because it is so simple to forget. Got the spring put on and it worked just fine shutting off when the valve time changed. Went on vacation (to the Olympics) and when I returned it looked like it hadn't been watered for a month and wonder if it was because this little pebble in the 1st valve made it stick open and not enough pressure to run the other lines! One month later the lawn is healthy and green and must have been the stuck valve! Thanks
