I am a guitarist so I a may be biased, but I don't see a reason why in general the piano layout would make more sense than a chromatic pad layout, AT ALL (bold statement I know). Music only knows intervals, "black and white" notes are an heritage of the piano layout, but they don't actually have a real meaning. With a pad layout a major chord has always the same shape, meaning that by knowing 2 SHAPES you can make all major and minor chords! with a piano a simple major chord changes shape based on the actual root(!), so you have to know some 24 shapes just to play all major and minor chords.. why, pianists?? why????? :D

do you know if you're able to change midi channels directly on the controller? I'm trying to control multiple hardware synths that are all setup to different channels. Thanks for the video!

How good is the audio quality when you use it as an interface? What interface can you compare to as far as quality in the signal?

Bought a new one. Never dreamed it didn't have a speaker. NON less a HP jack. I'm completely floored. I know it's a cheap starter midi controller but this was a miss by Akai imo.
@flundlip23 күн бұрын
@@jaydubya2445 sounds like you may have gotten the one that's not the Play version. The regular ones are just MIDI controllers, but the Play version has a speaker and headphone jack

@@flundlip Ya I should've gotten the play. I had no idea. I just saw NEW and it was the mk3 so I said I dont want the mk2, lol. Now I'm returning it as we speak.

Actualy you can comit a scene where you can setup diferent variations of the banks, and trigger them one by one (manually after bar ends). The only limitation is in the effects, because you can apply them by bank and they are applied for the entire project. Is a fun toy that can make basic beats and can be used by anyone, without experience in music production (as me).

Is there a midi controller with a cross fader to blend between scenes/presets/performances (like Octatrack)?
@flundlipАй бұрын
I'm sure you can map midi faders to do that in your DAW if you set it up that way, but not sure if there is a midi controller with that specific feature as a default setting.

Great video! Just wanted to know if I buy the MPK mini mk3 instead of the MPK play would I be able to get access to all the sounds that are installed onto the play via the AKAI software? cheers
@flundlipАй бұрын
I don't think so. But you will get access to a few virtual instruments and an Ableton Live Lite subscription that are bundled with the keyboard itself. But I'm not sure if it has the sounds available as standalone

The sounds are synthesized and not samples? I think you’re mistaking there. May be not multisampled but still, samples are used for the sounds (would be silly not to)

I’ve used ableton for a long time over 12 years but it’s just more chill and easy work on iPad I use FL studio but the drums never sound good, Lofi and small and very digital sounding. Ableton drums I can make so realistic that my friends don’t know if it’s a real drummer or digital. Wish iPad had good drum sound options. I’ll buy any app but never will do a subscription

If I had this feature I will use it SO MUCH at my advantage… 😆👍👍 Beautiful gift.

Begginers of what.. Stupid title
@flundlip3 ай бұрын
Of music production, of keyboards. There's a picture accompanying the title, so it refers to the keyboard, and in the video I talk about how having the sounds built in make it easier to get started for beginners. I think it's a decent title that's relevant to the video. But you're welcome to think the title is stupid

never ask for "a few surprises" filip! ;) i can imagine the looper can be useful for more organic ambient type stuff, but i'm disappointed you can't reverse the loop. and pitching should be (at least) in octaves, not percentages. te should've looked at some monome norns scripts for inspiration. andrew cs' 'wrms' for example is relatively simple but extremely useful and inspiring
