Was not a fan of this show-simply hollow and designed to push emotion button (yes I know MANY MANY will think I'm full of it) even the producers apologized to the NY cast and said it should have been left alone fron the orginal Production. But That 'Passing' at the end ot one of the most amzing things I have EVER seen on the stage just beautiful//

The voice of Francis was done by Chill Wills(the General), I was surprised that Zasu was in this.

Great movie, this and "A Bell for Adano" are two of my favorite wartime movies. Heartwarming, quirky and just plain entertaining.

Donald O'Connor was cast as Eddie Cantor in The Eddie Cantor Story (1953) until Keefe Brasselle got his cronies in the mafia to threaten the movies producer Sidney Skolsky, an event that Mario Puzo adapted into the Johnny Fontaine/Horses Head scene in The Godfather. Brasselle was the gid child of mafia don Joe Profaci & at 6'2' was a foot taller than Cantor & totally unsuitable & O'connor, whom Eddie Cantor loved & had been training with would have been perfect playing Cantor. As it was the Brasselle starring Eddie Cantor Story, at one point expected to be the greatest musical success of the decade, became an enormous flop

I was there the opening night of previews and probably saw the show 6-8 times. 3 times in NYC and the rest on tour. This one was the NYC version. They had written the entire first third of the show for Kelsey Grammer and when they replaced him, they rewrote that part for the tour.

This is the best film adaptation of Mark Twain, by far, I think. The Americana ethos is captured splendidly, and the two young actors are up to the task. For once, Tom and Huck are cast for authentic talent, rather than Shirley Temple cuteness or name recognition. Ironic that a minor Twain story turns out better on film than the masterpieces.

I just watched this little beauty of a film, made a comment, and went to ck out the cast, as I always do after every one I watch. Very interesting!! John and his parents came here from the Ukraine. He never changed his name, and was very proud of his homeland and ancestry. He and Anne were actually married after this movie, had a child, and sad to say divorced. He had poor health, and died at 41. Startlingly young.

May 4, 2024 This was a Beauty of a film❤❤ Absolutely precious. Life without the bombardment of social media, and the intrusiveness of government into every aspect of our lives, had a quality and richness we just can't imagine. Black and white photography is rich in so many ways. Thank you for all you do, bringing these films to us!!

O'Connor is amazing in this brutally honest bio-pic. The fact that Keaton himself supervised makes it even more poignantly devastating. My only quibble is that the length of Gloria's skirts never changes over the decades.
