I have lived in Thailand and am intimately involved with animal rescue foundations/ Every elephant in Thailand, with very rare exceptions, that is trained for entertainment, riding, or labor, have been taken away from their mothers at an early age and put through a prolonged process of 'breaking' the elephant's will through traumatizing pain and fear. This is a long standing process called Phajaan (Crushing), where a mother's love is replaced by pain and fear. Once the elephant is broken and compliant, then further 'training' takes place with a hook to inflict yet more pain. When the elephants are not performing they are often chained, away from the eyes of the public. A terrible life. This video is being used to glorify this elephant's talent and to perpetuate this practice for profit. Tourists need to wake up and BOYCOTT any and all elephant shows, riding, and any venue that puts elephants in any situation other than living in their natural environment. Please practice due diligence and patronize bonafide sanctuaries, which are usually 'look but don't touch' venues, allowing elephants to be elephants in their natural habitat with companions. Elephants do not enjoy painting but are merely performing what they have been trained to do under duress and the threat of pain.love They would much prefer to live free in a proper sanctuary, and never feel chains or hooks again. Let's promote the welfare of these majestic creatures. Feel free to fact check everything I've written. Look up Phajaan (Crushing). Please donate to Elephant Rescue Foundations if you're able. Don't contribute to their misery. Thank You for your consideration in becoming part of the movement to improve the lives of these gentle giants by allowing them to live with the dignity they deserve. Make the world a better place.

This is absolutely unnatural act of Elephants that they made to do by Humans. Guys, please help Elephants living their own ways. Not to entertain people. Elephants in Show, they undergo lots of stress. If they don't perform the way they trained, they get pinched through their ears with the mahout's sharp nail, so it is a forced act. Some intelligent ones will paint from repetitive practice, but even then that's not what the elephants chose to do.

Poor elephant.. He's not doing it for the first time.. He's being taught.. But he's being taught in a horrible way.. They are being mean to the poor animal to draw a Picture:(
@chantalou6048 жыл бұрын
This elephant is not doing a self portrait. He was taught, probably by being beaten until he got it perfect. THey sell the paintings to tourists.

This is learned by LBF (learning by fear). Don't buy this crap! They are abusing the elephants! You can see for yourself in this web site! They holding the elefants ear. Also with the stick and with the needle that the handlers are holding in the other hand. You can read all about this at this web page. All proves at this site : www.onegreenplanet.org/animalsandnature/why-making-an-elephant-paint-is-cruel-not-cute/

That awkward moment when an elephant is a better painter than you.
this makes me question is there realy a difference between us and any other animal? Our evolution and progress seems to be the only thing in my opinion.

It all goes to show the grand intellect of the elephant, comparable to us. It definitely helps to have a dextrous appendage, even if the trunk has no fingers, since if you have "hands" you can easily express yourself through painting and drawing, even in a basic fashion. I imagine if dolphins had arms, they'd be even better at painting.

@InsanePorcupine10 жыл бұрын
Actually after reading some of the comments I bet you most the dislikes are from people who think the animal is being forced to paint by some person behind the camera. Which is apparently cruel as they control their tusk? I dunno that's what people seem to be saying.

All of a sudden a lot of elephants learned to draw in Thailand from one year to another? This is most likely a cruel way to control them with a device to guide their trunks to the painting boards. I also noticed like a metal like object in the tip of the trunk. Some people are SCUM...animals are not for us to do experiments on or to entertain us.
