Thanks for the comment. Not sure if we have the same factory manual, but in mine, diagram 18.6.16 shows the locking lever in the 10/11 o’clock position… in diagram 18.6.18 it shows it in the 3 o’clock position, but that’s with the shift star removed. The Austrian bikes use an aluminum shift drum vs steel of all the other brands. Using aluminum for the shift drums is a horrible choice. They do this to try & save a little weight. These aluminum drums wear as the hard anodizing wears off & exposes the bare aluminum. This is the only reason I won't buy an Austrian bike. I wish an aftermarket company offered a steel drum.
@EricGrieco Жыл бұрын
I don’t blame you. When I changed out the faulty shift drum, the first thing I noticed was how light and cheap it felt. I wonder when they made this change? I used to have a 2008 KTM 250 EXC 2-stroke (I lived in Europe back then) and that bike was practically indestructible 😊 Thanks for watching!
@keithpeterson6108 Жыл бұрын
@Eric Grieco Yeah, my buddy had a 2014 ktm 250sx & it developed shifting problems the same summer it was new. The shift drum was worn. It was a bummer because otherwise it was a really sweet bike. The fork performance wash also atrocious but once revalved, it was a great bike. We put a new drum in it & he sold it. He won't buy one again. I really, really want a 350 4stroke, but again, the drum has me completely turned off the bike.
@lukeweseman96Ай бұрын
Pretty sure later models switched to a bullet shift drum, my 2020 tc 125 has a billet aluminum shift drum in it, I think it’s oem so…
@keithpeterson6108Ай бұрын
@lukeweseman96 Yep, it's still the same junk aluminum shift drum. It's definitely the weak link in the system. A steel drum would be a massive improvement for ling term durability.

After watching several times(thanks for the slo-mo) here's my assessment, because I had no idea how it happened at the time... When I weaved to the outside of the trail, the front tire must have slid on something(I dabbed to catch it). When the bars jinked I must have whiskey-throttled(the rear wheel clearly spun up and whipped around, throwing me off the horsey... 😐

All you need is ATV registration, which you can get with just a document showing proof of ownership such as the Certificate of Origin, or maybe a Bill of Sale, I'm not positive. It doesn't need to be a street-registered dual sport though, just ATV registration. $60 and an annoying trip or two to the DMV and you should be good to go.

The beauty of 2-strokes.. in this case we just wrung out the air filter and gave it a tow/bump start and it fired back up… we called it a day so he could play it safe and change out his gearbox oil… i’ve drowned my old 2008 250 exc twice.. each time wringing out the air filter, flipping the bike upside down and removing the spark plug, draining the carb float bowl, and it was back in business.. I even finished rides and changed the gearbox oil after.. that engine bottom end was pretty indestructible 😄

Not sure why but at 7:07 i felt a bit disappointed! :P Lower tire pressure (front and rear) will give you much more confidence on these slippery rocks and/or wooden rails. 18" FIM and a tubliss on the rear will transform your experience giving you great confidence to ride with! A Tubliss on the front will require some slime for all the nasty thorns though. (it's the only downside of the system) 19"ers change a rim to join the traction world!
@EricGrieco3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha there was no way I was going to attempt that rickety ass bridge 🤣 I actually just put on a new front tire (Bridgestone M59) with an UHD tube.. was running 8 psi.. now I HAVE to change the rear.. still have the stock Dunlop AT81 and it’s very worn 😄 Thanks for watching my friend!
@Achilleas73 жыл бұрын
@@EricGrieco Thanks for sharing bro! Glad i made you laugh ;-) 8PSI (0.5bar) is good enough! To go lower than that(eg. 4PSI) complication and costs rise! By the way, the mistake of the crashers is always sitting on their seat (for lack of a better word) due to fear of slipping the front while standing. Notice it on every crash. lower air pressure (even down to 0PSI) with the tubliss will give you confidence to stay on your feet risk free and go over broken bridges if all you have is a rail. (said the guy with the broken neck though! hahaha) The cost (and downside) of the tubliss is changing your front tire more often than you should due to thorns. (slime seems to seal them back but not sure for how long) but i believe it is a "next-day MUST" for the rear rim of the trail rider!
@Achilleas73 жыл бұрын
@@EricGrieco FIM your rear! and if you wrap it around a Tubliss you'll have a completely transformed experience with zero engine or suspension upgrades! (unbeatable value for money!)
@Achilleas73 жыл бұрын
i have a broken neck (healed now) because i was sitting where the other 5 riders that went over that rail were confident with themselves enough to stand. We weren't on the same level with those 5.. The difference between barely making it and making it is merely standing through it!
