I see you've got twin discs. What were these forks off? I have just bought a 500/4 K2 and that type of exhaust and the front forks are just what I'm after. I'm building a Racer to use on a Classic & Vintage Swiss Hillclimb, called SeeBodenAlp Bergrennen am Rigi. It only happens every 2 years and I competed last August on my 1930 Sunbeam Model 8 350. My normal road bike here in the UK is a Yamaha MT10, so I need something a little quicker for next year. Nice job on your bike mate.

Thanks. The forks are from a Yamaha R6. Search the SOHC4 forum for R6 swap. There are a couple of threads on doing the swap.

@uberkafer Жыл бұрын
These, and all my bikes, were vacuum synced and still had this issue. I believe the biggest cause is improper main jet O-ring size, letting fuel leak by. Also, a foam UNI filter in the stock air box will need different idle mixture screw settings than a paper filter.

I would be looking for a rich condition on the carb, with the idle screw or idle jet. With the throttle closed, it continues to feed to much fuel to the engine. Slipping the clutch to load the engine, it now does not have enough fuel and so settles to an idle again. Visually synching the carbs is close enough, and will not cause this problem. Try closing the idle mix screw to cut out fuel, if it controls fuel. If it controls air, open it. Check your idle jet air and fuel circuits. I see this post is a year old. Have you already resolved this?

Yes, read the other comments for the solution.

@@uberkafer so, your sync was way off?? Interesting. I have CBX with 6 carbs. Lots of fun.
@uberkafer2 жыл бұрын
No, the sync itself was good, but when the carbs were fully disassembled and rebuilt and the slides/sync screws weren't set to the proper "baseline", so to speak. A vacuum sync showed the carbs balanced perfectly but slides didn't go to "zero", so to speak. Read the thread on the SOHC4 linked below for a better explanation.

Thanks I appreciate the reply. I should have been more clear that I have the exact same problem, not exact same bike. I have a 1987 Yamaha Virago 535 v-twin. I have two carburetors and one sync screw. I synced the carbs so I think there's only one thread depth I need to be (didn't change it when cleaning the carbs, but double checked sync. afterwards anyway). Maybe I have a vacuum leak like every kept telling you, even though I already have that a pretty solid test with the carb cleaner method. Anyway I really appreciate the response. If you have any general advice you might think will be help, I'm all ears. No worries if not, appreciate the reply.
@uberkafer3 жыл бұрын
Just the general stuff: sticky throttle cables, lean condition, either from jetting or an air leak, timing, sticky timingadvancer, etc. Don't overlook the valve adjustment either. The Virago use CV carbs, right? Check the diaphragms too.

The 4 individual sync screws (NOT the mixture screws; the screws with the little lock nuts that you use to sync the carbs) were showing too many threads. I lowered the slides until about 3-4 threads were showing, re-sync'ed the carbs and that cured it. I used the "German method" of setting the slides by measuring the bell crank.
