Is it possible (or doable) to press the sides less than an inch thick? Will it hold? How about making smaller planters with thinner sides?
@lauriegordon559118 күн бұрын
Use beach sand as the inside mold I do it all the time it helps hold the hypertufa sides! You take the sand out when it is cured. Many times, I line the inside with a garbage bag or plastic wrap than add the sand. Thank you for your video the hypertufa pots are so addictive and fun to make.

I finally found out the name of this succulent. I bought one in variety pot of other succulents and three pieces broke off on the ride home. I planted them and they are growing like crazy. Finding your video helped me figure out the term (etiolate) for how they are growing. So I'm going to propagate them and give them out as gifts. Thanks.

I inherited my mom's Hoya Carnosa last fall. She got it as a cutting in about 1966. As far as I know, it has only bloomed twice (I don't know for sure, but I think she may have snipped the bloom off when it started to wilt, as you might with other flowering plants). I have had it for about 9 months. I have it in a west facing window with bright indirect sunlight. I am thinking she put it in a pot that is too large, but the pot was painted and given to her by 2 of her great-grand sons, so I still have it in that. I am seeing some new growth, but NO peduncles yet! Fingers crossed!
@KimsGardensandHomeАй бұрын
What a wonderful Hoya history you have. Love that. Mine goes thru periods of lots of blooming, then stops for a year or more. It is now in a blooming period. I recently put it outside on a shady porch and water it a lot and fed it. She immediately popped out a bloom. I think drying out for long periods helps stimulate blooms and be sure to keep that spent bloom stalk. All it needs to do is "drop" off the tiny flower thingys, then that stem that is left will bloom again. A Bloom Booster feed might help, but just once in a while. Here's an affiliate link. amzn.to/3MfisSI But use any of those fertilizers with high middle number..NPK, middle number is Phosphorus which makes blooms or fruits. Good luck and I wish you well! 😀

Mine don't grow tall like yours, they open up and drop to the sides. I get so many blooming in my front yard that maybe they are too heavy which is why they drop to the sides, but once they bloom I know I need to deadhead them, but its become a chore because it takes me such a long time to dead head each and everyone. Am I missing something? When I deadhead them, should I gather each plant head and compost or let them fall back in the garden?
@KimsGardensandHomeАй бұрын
There is a dwarf variety that is only 10in maybe. But almost all I see are tall like 20 inches. The more you cut back, the bushier they get which helps them to stand upright. As for the spent blooms, when just finished, they can be thrown in the soil to decompose. If you leave some on the stems, they will dry out and have tiny pepper-like seeds inside. Then just break open and fling them where you want new ones to grow. At the end of the year, I gather branches and put in a paperbag or Not-airtight bag. In spring, shake the stems and have hundreds of seeds to plant. I have a 3-5 inch tall one now with a bloom. So cute. I will need to take a picture for the community page.

I also have heard NOT to use tap water, but distilled. I use RO water. Also, you can keep the sugar solution in the refrigerator for a week, let it stand out before filling feeders so water is at room temp.

Absolutely can be used for indoor plants. I would NOT use it outdoors at all (as I say in videos and posts on website) since it kills pollinators too. I don't have butterflies and bees inside but I sure do outside and I don't want to harm them.

I can't drive by my local Lowe's without checking out clearance plants. I often stop in Home Depot as well. HD doesn't have clearance, except on shrubs, which they did recently. I'm not sure I've ever seen HD mark down plants. Anyway, HD does not take care of their plants. Lowe's does a very good job of watering & keeping their stock nice. That's why I go there the most.
@KimsGardensandHome2 ай бұрын
As in any of the stores, it depends on how the plants are handled and watered. I have seen hardy succulents inside in colder weather stretching for sunlight and "drowning" in cache pots. Lately, a lot of ceramic pots are sold with the plants and they will have two inches of water in them with the surface soil mushy, just a plant waiting to die. It is a shame that people who don't know how to take care of plants are taking care of plants. Sad sight at any of the stores.
