You give me hope. But I guess here in Ohio the sustained lower temps is what may be the deciding whether any of them live or die. I will keep hoping.

This is how I pruned my Gollum Jade Ogre Ears plant from watching videos here on KZbin. I did the best I could and I feel that I am only half-way finished. But I felt I had done enough trauma for now and I will wait a few weeks and finish some "thinning out" some of the upper growth. I will feel successful if it stands on its own.

If its tropical won’t it freeze

I am experimenting to see it it can slightly stay above freezing in that shed and not die by freezing to death.
@KimsGardensandHome9 күн бұрын
This is just an experiment for keeping succulents alive, probably not happy, during the cold months! Using an unheated garden shed is an idea due to possibly giving the succulents a 1 or 2 higher zone. I hope light levels are key, and tips on watering sparingly will definitely help prevent root rot. Thanks to you if you can share more help for overwintering succulents successfully- in an unheated shed.

Oh, do you think I should have put them upright? I didn't think about that. I was hoping it would just grow up and the roots grow down. I am anxious to find out what happens. I did this once with a long strand of bare pothos stem. It took weeks/months but I now have a bushy plant.

Can you cut off all the rot on bottom if bulb has lots of roots and pups
@KimsGardensandHome7 күн бұрын
I guess it would be worth a try. I guess if the "most important" area was the one that rotted, it won't work. But if there is any hard bulb left, it might still grow.

My son and I made him a Firepit in his backyard. I helped (or hindered) as I could and he loves it. He had the ring already and didn't think he wanted the stone, but since he loves the outdoor fires when he has friends over, we made him a stone ring. He did most of it, I am an old lady. But we did it together and it was fun.

My button fern looks really great now that it is planted into a hypertufa pot. It seems to give it a great environment as far as moisture, a very even level of moisture over a period of time. I hope mine will grow to its full potential.

@KimsGardensandHomeАй бұрын
I have brought some inside for houseplants, but most stay outside in the winter in Ohio zone 6. As long as they don't sit in a puddle of frozen water, they are fine. Snow and ice on them are no problem.

During these cooler fall months, it is time to get this Garden Shed in better order. If I were better at putting things away in a timely manner, I wouldn't have so much to take care of, but then I wouldn't be me. I took about 3 days to do this at my own pace. I am so pleased with the outcome.

Sedum is great for hypertufa planters and this tiny free item went into one of my hypertufa bowls about 5 years ago. Here is a bit of a chronology of the plant: planted, about 1 month later, then 5 years later. It dies down each year in Ohio just like an Autumn Joy sedum and regrows from scratch. So pretty blooming this year.

use coco coir instead of peat moss. Peat moss is harvested extremely unsustainably and it takes years for even a little bit of peat moss to grow back… Coco coir is used from the abundance of coconut husks… its way more sustainable

Use beach sand as the inside mold I do it all the time it helps hold the hypertufa sides! You take the sand out when it is cured. Many times, I line the inside with a garbage bag or plastic wrap than add the sand. Thank you for your video the hypertufa pots are so addictive and fun to make.
