I used to- well- despise Korg. Despise their silver, transparent-sounding workstations that seem ready-made for the LA recording scene. Then came the trio before this- so dark and sometimes disturbing and delicious- with real tone. Now this- meet #4. My gawwd Korg is so great now.

@@Jason75913 All the new Synths from Korg are going the thinner Route , it began with the Electribe 2 and was continued by the new Synthesizers that run on Raspberry CPU‘s. Sometimes underwhelming and cheap. Maybe this can also be explained technically. The older digital Synths were programmed directly using Assembler and everything was brought out of the DSP. Today they (the Sound Software) all run on a CPU and an operating system like a PC. Maybe this means that this direct, powerful Sound is lost, the direct Control of the Hardware is lost. With the older DSPs, the Sound was generated by Hardware and special Sound functions were already integrated into the Chip. The Rasperry CPU and his FPU units are not a specialized Sound custom Hardware with direct Control down to the Chipregisters. Or/And the analog output stage after the D/A converter is not good enough to create a punchy Bass Sound. Something is missing here. I don't like these VST in a Box concept. So i looking for other Alternatives. Or they must change the Algorithm, a new Code or so. The new Synths from Korg require a lot of compression and a Hifi Subwoofer to produce something you can call a bass Sound.
@ROBBYTOB777

@@Jason75913 Its sounds flat and mat, the Filter Resonance in the Korg Trinity sounds more brilliant and metallic. The older digital synthesizers from Korg and other Companys still have a certain weight and pressure(punch) in their sound, which is completely missing from these new „VST in the Box“ Keyboards based on Raspberry Pi CPU‘s. Second, you cannot edit all Effectparameters on the Unit , you need a PC Editor for that. If those Editors doesent run on Future Windows Version in some Years , you have a Hardware with no Control over all Parameters.

I also think you you missed the point of the device a bit here. While these droning pads are of course really nice, the magic happens with the polyrhythmic and drifting behaviour of the recorded loop. Feeding it with something shorter, with faster attack and let these sounds evolve into something pad like is the the superpower of the Cosmos.

A lot of people commenting should take this into consideration... unlike Roland, Korg, Nord, Kurtzweil, etc. etc. These guys are NOT a synthesizer keyboard company. I always think of this as a "fan based physical manifestation of the software PC music market" in other words, if you are a Rebirth/Reason user, what do you have? A screen A PC and some kind of plastic controller with knobs and such to give you a physical interface to the software array. Now, if you want to road this out? Gotta lug the monitor and the PC... not practical. So they pack the required hardware into their "synth" and load the software and code/create a minimalist interface layer for the buttons keys and dials etc. now what would be grand is if it had an HDMI out and they allowed for "docking mode" Then maybe you'd get a much better idea of what is going on here. As far as the aforementioned competitors, they are NOTHING like this unit. They are straight up "generate the waveform/timbre/etc" on the fly... with a base proprietary machine OS and an interface that is directly tied/congruent to the physical controls at hand. I personally think this is brilliant but you must use it with that perspective in mind so that you understand why it doesn't look feel play or behave as most other synths do. (This is also why it's so slow. If you knew what was really going on then you'd see that the guts would have to be SO much more beefy heavy and run hotter to give you "lightning fast") Now from a performance standpoint, it's really amazing if you ask me. The feel and sound is incredible and it is arranged for a musician rather than a technician. It gives you 4-8 sounds of each category/group you need. SO no you don't have 1,000 EPs but the 8 or so that you do have are IDENTICAL to VERY famous EPs used on famous tracks. This is definitely a performance cover-band instrument. You want to sound like ELP? There's a sound for it and it's called "Lucky Man" so there's no confusion as to what the intended track is... There's another one called "Credence" and it's an organ as you'd guess, etc etc.. another light sustain-y EP called "Storm Riders" which yes it sounds IDENTICAL to the EP used in riders on the storm and handles sustain beautifully. If you engage this unit with the right mentality you'd really really like and appreciate it's design and performance. It's fun as heck to play and addictive. Is this for a studio? Kinda but really for stage performance by a band playing 60s 70s and 80s classic rock songs. It has the EXACT horn/synth used in "Jump" by van halen. Personally I have THE EXACT sound b/c I have a D-50 (Van Halen used 6 D-50 synths in series to get multi-timbral our of a unitimbral synth) I don't have this astrolab , but I am seriously considering buying it after fooling around on it at my friend's house. how did I get the actual JUMP sound on my D-50? My friend Troy works for Roland and he is a sound designer and let's just say he accidentally left a stack of floppies at my place... ( i have an Alesis DataDisk) Anyhow I hope my take on this unit was somewhat helpful b/c I see a lot of people somewhat bashing what is a great unit.

Hey I plug in my controller then it lights up for a second saying it’s on then the lights cut off, it can’t play, stop, record or even use any of the functions, if I put an expansion pack in it’ll make noise but I can’t put anything together because I can’t record/play/stop, the knob doesn’t work and the screen on the top right doesn’t change from the akai logo. I really hope you can get back to me.
