A lot of discussion is more on the longevity of the truck. One thing also, you gripe about having narrower mud flaps that is causing rock chips by the bed, but you put on wider tires. That does not make sense.

I went from a yz250f to yz450fx for the woods, and holy shit it has power, the best thing I ever did was buy a throttle tamer, it completely changed the bike, it is like a 250 the first half of the throttle then 450 the last half. I prefer the 450 now because I can lug the hell out of it and it still pulls my 220lbs. The throttle tamer took the jerkyness off the bottem and made throttle control much easier. Best 70 bucks I ever spent. The only other thing I did was add the fan, but I must be clear, do not start out on a 450, they will hurt you fast.

The noise you hear with the rear seat folded is the cab vent. It’s just a light rubber flap that keeps dust from getting in the cab. It allows the doors to shut by allowing air to escape. Insulation won’t prevent this. Maybe a blanket over it would help cut some noise and allow enough air to escape but you’ll have to remove whatever is mounted in front of it. The bed rail might be a bad design of the part itself or the mold in the factory or the process of the injection itself.

@@paulnirschl6500 what did you do to fix it?
@paulnirschl650014 күн бұрын
@@Rodneysnwridesandreviews you need 2’ of 1/2”&5/8” heater hose. Cut to length to fit on each side of the washer nozzles, then slit the pieces to go over the lip on the cowl and stack the 5/8 over the 1/2. I then put some camper weather striping on the underside of the hood above the heater hose just to insure the paint wouldn’t get rubbed off. This gave the hood in front of the windshield some support. That took care of 75% of it, I then cut some foam pipe insulation in half and put that in between the 2 layers of the hood at the edges of the hood scoop to support that to get rid of 20% more. Total cost to lessen the very annoying hood flex about $15 that Toyota either didn’t catch on testing or just didn’t care enough to correct.

I really like the leveling lift on the front end. The only negative I can see with lifting the front is that your view over the hood when off-roading and parking the vehicle, is more difficult. If you had the premium package with the 360 degree cameras it would help with that. You should think about changing the halogen signal lights to the LED lights that are offered by LASFIT. Good review on your truck.

It looks like your new tires are wider than the stock tires. All terrain type tires are designed to have a wider and deeper lug configuration for traction purposes that plus the fact that they are generally self cleaning tires which is why the trapped gravel flings out. I think that’s why Toyota puts a less aggressive AT stock tire on the newly designed Tacomas. When I get my new TRD Off Road I’m going to put side steps that will be wide enough to contain that rock damage.

The KO2 is horrible for picking up rocks as well or at least some sizes in that tread pattern. In fact some parts of the tread as per those angled wedge shapes on the shoulder blocks will hold rocks in even at highway speed and not let them go at all ( that can cause stone drilling of the carcass ). Interesting to hear the KO3 has a similar issue.
@Rodneysnwridesandreviews18 күн бұрын
@@charlesb4267 I had a set of the KO2’s on my 2022 Tundra, and didn’t notice them holding rocks as bad as the KO3’s did. I’m the size of the gravel has a lock to do with that. Thanks for the feedback
@charlesb426718 күн бұрын
@@Rodneysnwridesandreviews You are correct that gravel size has a large bearing on how a tire will pick up rocks but also tire size within the same tread style makes a difference as the tread spacing changes somewhat with sizing. Never the less that is not good news to hear the KO3 are even worse for retaining rocks as I hoped they would be better. One of the reasons your video and findings interested me is that where I live in a rural area of Alberta has a lot of gravel roads and over the years ( a lot of oil patch activity up here on gravel roads ) the original KO proved to be a horrible choice in tire for our gravel roads, then came the KO2 which ironically BFG even had an article bragging how they tested their then new tire on our very roads up here and how much better it was. Years of that KO2 have passed by and so going to any tire shop around here that is honest and the first thing they ask is "are you planning on driving much gravel" and if the answer is yes they hands down say do NOT get the KO2 as it will stone drill and the carcass will fail. So where does that put the KO3, that I assume is yet to be determined !. That doesn't mean a lot of other tires are great on our gravel, its murder on tires but some do a lot better than others in this harsh condition. For example have run some sets of KM2/KM3 on two wheel drive farm pickups that see mostly gravel and they will only last 8000 miles on the drive axle and that is on a very lightly loaded pickup and they are shot tread wise and have had the casing fail , that just gives an idea of how crushed gravel eats some types of tires.
@Rodneysnwridesandreviews18 күн бұрын
@@charlesb4267 that’s good information. The one thing that I did like about the KO2 was how puncture resistant they were. With the KO3 being a C class rated tire instead of the E, I wonder how they’ll hold up.
@charlesb426718 күн бұрын
@@Rodneysnwridesandreviews I haven't seen the current listings for the KO3 sizes that have come out so far but would assume there are some gaps in the sizes and ply ratings that have come to market at this point. Take the KO2 for example, the "all metric" sizes in an LT tire tend to be load range E while the "inch designated" tires tend to be the load range C which they also refer to as their "flotation series" So when one looks at a tire chart that has these two different designated tires the LT tire has a higher minimum operating pressure vs the flotation series. I know its all confusing, the flotation tire also says LT on it but that is after the tire size rather than before. Do you think they could have come out with a less confusing mess ? LOL. But as to your load range C tires, I do hear you over the fact that they might be a bit less tough on the tread surface portion of the carcass but they also are a more flexible tire to air down further for off road use and will ride better on road with a truck of your size vs going with a load range E. I honestly would not worry too much about it as the fairly large tire for a lighter pickup like you have is a very different application compared to an HD truck if its packing a lot of weight constantly as that really ramps up the abuse to a tire when on gravel.
