While AirBnB's marketing spend may be lower, their operating margin is still much lower than Booking's. What are the other costs that lead to AirBnB lose the operating margin?
@HowTheyMakeMoney_7 ай бұрын
Great question! Airbnb's model involves managing a vast network of individual hosts and properties, leading to higher costs associated with customer support and trust and safety measures. They are also reinvesting in the product (Experiences, new markets, mobile app features, and so on).

@@HowTheyMakeMoney_ Makes sense. We should also be comparing the overall Operating Margin to compare both models.

Does Formula 1 also fund feeder series, including F1 Academy? How would this affect the income statement
@HowTheyMakeMoney_7 ай бұрын
Yes, Formula 1 does fund feeder series, including initiatives like the F1 Academy. The funding and support for feeder series are part of their broader strategy to develop and promote racing talent and ensure a steady stream of skilled drivers progressing through the ranks to Formula 1. From an accounting perspective, the revenue from feeder series or the F1 Academy is recorded under 'Other income,' alongside income from sources like the Paddock Club. The corresponding costs are primarily reflected in 'Other costs.’

So the cost cap is what, 150 million? I didn’t keep up. And RBR gets 140 million. They basically spend 10m on racing, not counting Max’ or Adrian’s salary. Checo pays his own way through merch. Nice setup. Haas is doomed in this picture. They spend more by default so they can’t get the car to that level, ever. Unless they get a golden sponsor, which they won’t get cause of poor performance. It’s basically an Elon Musk economy: start off rich and you’ll get even richer. Start off poor and you’ll stay poor.
@HowTheyMakeMoney_7 ай бұрын
Red Bull received an estimated $140 million in prize money in 2023. Keep in mind, that's the prize money received from Formula One Group alone. F1 Teams also make money via sponsorships, merchandise and partnerships. Formula One Group's financials only show the Prize Money (as an expense paid to teams). F1 Teams do not disclose their revenue publicly. The cost cap for F1 Teams was $135 million in 2023.

Interesting. Does F1 also fund F2 - F4 teams? Or are they self sustainable?
@HowTheyMakeMoney_7 ай бұрын
F2 and beyond are generally factored into the "Other" revenue segment of the Formula One Group's financial reporting. This segment includes revenues from a variety of sources that are not directly linked to the core Formula 1 activities. These include revenues from support series like F2 and F3, hospitality, freight, and other ancillary services.
