The runway extension for Essendon was to accomodate the boeing 707 four engine jets, at least Essondon airport could be reached on public transport unlike Tulla which true to form for back then was built far far away only accessable by car, just like VFL park.

I remember flying from Essendon to Canberra in a TAA Vickers Viscount in 1967. It was amazing and memorable! Then another highlight of my flying was a flight to Auckland NZ on a Qantas B707 from the not so old Tullamarine Airport and back on a B747-300 ! And another one.. a DC9 flight to Sydney with the great Ansett Airlines!

Deregulation was a way to break unions. It was a way for airlines to sell there old planes. It was a way to consolidate the number of carrier. It was a way dump small cities. It was as smart as deregulation of the savings and loan industry. None of the start-ups are still around. Great Airlines are gone. Flying sux today. When the deregulaters come knocking show them the door.

2:49 I've been in gate 53 on 24 January this year but why were gates 52,53 and 54 needing to be upgraded? (for callsign: XAX327, D7237, AirAsiaX flight from Perth to Kuala Lumpur on 9M-XXQ, Airbus A330-343 powered by 2 Rolls Royce Trent 772B-60 engines.)

Yesterday Qantas and Perth Airport reached an agreement for Qantas to move across by 2031. The parallel runway should be complete by 2028 and the new terminals being complete by 2031. More news is Jetstar will be moved out of T3 in September of 2024 and will be moved to Terminal 2, on the other side of the airport. Adding to the T3 International, Perth to Rome and Perth to Paris will be starting in the next 2 months. In Total, the new runway and terminals is projected to be around $5 Billion AUD. This was all released on May 31st, 2024

When I was younger my job meant I had to fly around the country often. I had so many terrible experiences on planes attempting to land at this airport in high winds and foul weather that I will no longer fly anywhere.

Just a little update as off current date and someone who works out at the airport: carpark construction has almost completed and ground level is now the transport hub and drop off/pick up area. Construction has also started for the connection from international into domestic airport so it will be big airport.

An interesting history of Sunshine Coast Airport, but may I offer one correction. You mentioned that they changed the IATA code (3 letters) of the Airport when in fact the IATA code was and still is MCY. The ICAO code (4 letters) was the one that changed. Basically the IATA code is the reservations & 'public use' one, ICAO is the operational & Governmental one.

Wellington airport has been a political football for decades. It's outrageous that in the 21 century this short runway still can't accept the large jets which have to use Auckland or Christchurch. Yes they have landed large jets but only as a proof of concept purpose.

Not researched extensively enough. The handful of 767-200’s were certainly ‘mature’ but as another viewer commented, similar vintage to QF’s. The A320’s were not in any way old. Some good footage, but the narrative requires a deeper level of research. Any historic presentation requires comprehensive research and cross-checking of ‘facts’.

I worked for them ‘89 to 2001 and went down with the ship. Unfortunately this doesn’t even tell half the story of the business predicament AN found itself in, the conflicting interests of its stakeholders, especially the skullduggery of Air NZ. The whole thing was a disgrace that part from everything else, left 16,000 suddenly redundant. Some good footage but a perfunctory account.
