Trepaniers, I'm one of those place name nerds who's very curious about how the national park is pronounced. I think I heard 3 syllables--eye-WE-tuck. Is that correct, or is there an 'uh' between 'eye' and 'we'? Also, how does this differ from the "nearby" town with nearly the same spelling, and otherwise known as Grise Fiord? Thanks/Merci.

I really enjoyed this video, and despite the extreme remoteness, I really felt like the physical experience of your trip is something that I can relate to; is something that I could set out and do if I choose to.

Great movie, really enjoyed it. l thought of going to Baffin Island at the end of the summer (with the wife), but the scenery is so similar to Scandinavia (after all, both are Arctic regions) and the flights SO expensive that we may pass. We'll see!

Hi Cory, what kind of easel do you use for your expedition plein air paintings?
@CoryTrepanier3 жыл бұрын
I've been using a half box French easel for major trips. I like having everything in one container (paints, brushes, thinner, etc). Feels like a portable studio when I open it up, and it allows for a lots flexible positions (painting standing, sitting with legs folded in, etc). But it's pretty darn heavy to lug around. For shorter trips I've recently been trying out a Strada easel, which are really nice: www.stradaeasel.com.

Thank you for taking the time to share some of who your are, and what you do. I'm starting back into painting, after 27 years as a biology teacher/artist on the side. That's actually not Billy's Airstream, but another fellow from the community, so I did not get the full story. But yeah, that sure caught my attention when I saw it!!

There are many tourist type places that have now banned the use of drones for exactly what you mentioned. They are one of the most irritating sounds I've ever heard. Especially in place as stunning as that, they really shouldn't be there. There is an entire generation that feels in order to validate their own existence, they need to photograph, or video every moment of their lives. Instead of just enjoying and appreciating what's around them, and taking it all in. I've had times - and I'm sure you have too, where your intention is to paint something, but the scenery is just so astounding that you end up just sitting there looking and enjoying the silence. I really hope I can make it to Iceland one day. I could easily spend a whole season just wandering around and painting. I think the Faroe Islands would be second choice for that type of painting adventure. Thanks for posting this.
@CoryTrepanier3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the wonderful note Easel Rider. Yes, for me painting cannot happen unless there is some time to soak it all in, and experience the wonder of nature. That experience is what makes me want to paint in the first place. And Faroe Islands... on my bucket list too!

Cory I love going on my motorbike up North in Canada , it's the best kept secret going. How many G's is a trip to Asgard cost a guy around?
@CoryTrepanier3 жыл бұрын
To get to Asgard: when I went last (2018) it was about $2,500 return (Ottawa to Iqaluit), then about $800 from Iqaluit to Pangnirtung. From Pang, it's an hour boat ride to the edge of the park, then you hike 50 kms to get to Asgard. Or you fly past the park to Qikiqtarjuaq (which I did), and hike your way back. I just checked Candian North's website though (canadiannorth.com) and prices seem to have come way down: Under 1k return and about $529 for the 2nd leg! Don't forget some park fees as well. Cheers!
