Great tips! Thank you. Would love to have a tutorial on how one can then use this component info in SketchUp Layout in a plant schedule/ table with the latin name, common name, description, numbers etc. Perhaps you have already done a tutorial on that.

Hi so an FBX file allows for growth ? And the twin motion file enlarges the form. Is that correct ? Therefore FBX is better as the sliding growth allows for the volume and character changes

Hello, to put it on the scale, measure a line that knows the dimension and take this number that is on the dimension and divide it by the value that is currently measuring, the result can be applied to the scale by typing when using the scale icon! Ex: 5m/ 7.5 = 0.6 (scale factor to be used)

Did you try D5 !? It's amazing and contain all you need of plants without need to buy any thing And the quality of final is amazing with generated and PCG plant scatter Thanks

Hello. With globe models put the fbx inside the maps folder. Then when it loads all maps will be applied. It even works with the new option of batch importing. Also, Lumion is aware but when loading a globe plant model of any type enable the option to force dbl sides. The model will look even better. I have worked with Lumion on this and am awaiting a patch where this doesn’t always have to be the case.

When you apply a material, make sure you have the face correctly oriented, with the white facing outwards. And when you create that component to represent the shrub/tree/flowers, choose 'Set Component Axes' in the middle of the circle, it will help you when you place, rotate or scale it.

Just to rectify Plants are easier to animate than people. we just simulate it with physics and wind then bake the animation. and lumion doesn't look even simulated it looks more of a procedural approach. but great video overall!

One way to make scaling easier: Measure on that scale from 0m to 5m and when sketchup says it's 3m, just type 5m and <Enter> and it will rescale the drawing according to your most recent measurement, to be exactly 5m. This way you can avoid repeatedly getting closer. closer, but never exactly the right length.

@@thomagr Double click into the component that's imported. Do a Select All (of the component) and now scale it as above. It will ask if you want to rescale the current component, say Yes.

I am a self taught native plant designer who has taught myself. I am currently using Realtime Landscaping Architect which designs in 3D and is extremely intuitive and user friendly. I keep running up against obstacles that this software can't do and am trying to figure out where to go from here. I'm not sure I understand the advantage of using Sketchup or Lumion. I need a program that I can learn to model native plants...native plants are extremely scarce in the 3D modeling world, and the ones I do find are usually incorrect. Can you help me understand where to go next? Thanks

Hi Trecia, personally between the Lumion Pro library and sites like Maxtree and Globe Plants I have enough plant choices, it's amazing what you can get in some of this websites. Saying that if you really want to use a particular species it's always going to be hard, you can model your own in programs like Grow FX but there is some learning curve and time consuming process. My approach to 3D garden design models is that it never substitutes planting plans, the 3D plants I use are close in size, structure textures, color but it may not be the exact specie I will specify in the planting plan.
