Is there any way can solve the jogging issue in the last and first stitch transition?? Thank you
@jennyknits
@jennyknits 7 күн бұрын
What I typically do is to make that jog more random, so I don't start and stop in the same spot each time around. In more typical stripping, the jog is easily disguised, but since this is a slip, knit, slip scenario that makes it harder to hide. So I'll either work a few stitches past the join or work a few stitches short of the join.

@@jennyknits Thank you for your advice. I knitted this pattern last week and tried couple times but still no luck of getting the jogging away. Maybe I will try make the start 2 stitches earlier than the join and then see if this will help. I love the pattern but the jogging is kinda bothering me for a week. Hahaha

@@ShoppingQueen2.0 When I'm knitting straight and not linen stitch, I pull the stitch below up on my needle and knit it with the first stitch. Maybe you could try something like that as an option. Not sure if it would be invisible though with linen stitch. Offsetting that join though is a lot less noticeable if it's in a different spot in each row. Thanks for watching.

do you do the same for any stitch pattern in between? To create a twisted chain edge would you slip the 1st knitwise and then purl the last?
@jennyknits
@jennyknits 28 күн бұрын
Yes you change it up depending on what that last stitch is. This is where being able to "read" your knitting is helpful. You'll quickly be able to tell if the nice slip-stitch edge looks right. There are patterns where I do slip knitwise with yarn in back on that first stitch. Work that first stitch and a few stitches past it and look at your edge. If it doesn't look right, frog those few stitches and work that first stitch the other way. Also sometimes I add 2 stitches to whatever pattern I'm working in between, and always knit the last stitch. So those 2 extra stitches don't count in the pattern. Just extra to create the nice edge.

Typically I taper the 10 stitches back down to 1-2 over the course of 20 rows. So I would slip the first stitch, then K2tog then carry on in pattern until I was down to just one stich or two. Then cast off and weave in ends. I've also seen some that just end and cast off the 10 stitches. It's more abrupt and I don't think it looks as good. Thanks for watching.

Do you have a pattern for this scarf or written instructions?
@jennyknits
@jennyknits Ай бұрын
I don't have a written pattern, but I can tell you. I also explain it in the video. cast on 3 stitches. Now every other row you will increase at the beginning and end of the row. The next row is knit all stitches. Do these 2 rows until the scarf is as wide as you want. Then the 2-row repeat will be: row 1 increase at beginning of row and decrease at the end of the row. Row 2, knit all stitches. Repeat these rows till the scarf is the length you want. Last 2 row repeat is: row 1 decrease at beginning of row and decrease at the end of the row. Repeat these 2 rows till you get down to 3 stitches and bind off. So there are 3 phases... Increase phase, length phase, and decrease phase. Hope that helps.

I've watched 4 or 5 videos to learn the linen stitch. Not one of them would come out and say knit the slips and slip the knits on the next row. I want to make a sideways constructed scarf that takes 400-600 stitches to set up and I dreaded seeing I got it wrong after a couple inches when it takes forever to knit one row. Thanks very much.

What if you doing knit 1 row then purl 1 row do you purlwise on purl and knit wise on the knit rows
@jennyknits
@jennyknits 2 ай бұрын
@@marshaerickson156 I don't have any knitting with me right now, but I would say to continue slipping as you have in this video. If you change up the rows between knitting and purling, just take a look at that edge, work a few stitches and see if it looks right. If not, back up and try the other way. Part of becoming a great knitter is to be able to "read" your work. So learning when the stitch looks right will help you in knowing which direction to slip that stitch. Thanks for watching.

Your ten stitch twist videos have been a lifesaver for a project I'd been meaning to get to for years (Bernat blanket in Harvest, plus Starbella ruffle yarn in Autumn joined onto the back side of the project with a technique based on the dragon mitts scale trick, it's a fluffy abomination in progress) I think my joining stitch has turned into something halfway between the simple and the chain joins (simple half chain? I dunno) by slipping the same things as the simple join, but just doing everything knit-wise. Between the chunky chenille yarn and the ruffle stuff, I've got a spiral of ruffles on one side and a lovely fuzzy spiral ridge on the other side, all in cozy autumnal colors that'll be great for the cooler weather coming up. Thanks so much!

I laughed out loud when you said fluffy abomination! I've made a few of those. So glad this helped you with your joins. I use a combination of these joins on other projects as well. I made a scrap afghan with long stripes and joined them as I knit the stripe. It saved so much time not having to sew them together at the end. Thanks for watching.

Mam lovely video❤to make scarf for an adult size with this said shape ,how many stitches do i need to cast on and how long should the scarf be ? Thanks ❤
@jennyknits
@jennyknits 4 ай бұрын
that all depends on what weight yarn you use, what size needles you use and how long do you want it? If I'm using sock weight yarn I'll typically have about 90-100 stitches on Size 3 needles. If I'm using worsted weight, I'll typically have about 40-60 stitches with size 7-8 needles. If you use bulky yarn, you could have 10-15 stitches on size 13 needles.... So just depends what you want to use. Make a test swatch of whatever yarn and cast on 25 stitches...see if you need more or less. Work about 10-15 rows and you'll see how that yarn and needles work. thanks for watching

Thank you for the hint to knit the first row straight through. I started doing this after getting terribly frustrated trying to do the increase on three needles while trying to simultaneously joining the round. Whoever wrote the pattern that way was a bit of a sadist. LOL It was defeating me. I made the same change based on my experience as a sock knitter for many years. Only thing I do differently is to pretend I did the double increase and cast on 21 stitches to begin with, (7 per needle instead of 5) then knit all 21 in a circle and proceed to begin working the pattern.. This also makes the opening a bit larger for stuffing, and by knitting the whole round there's a much nicer edge on the opening. I'm going to go see if I have two circulars in the right size to give this a try.
@jennyknits
@jennyknits 6 ай бұрын
Good idea on making the opening a tad larger. Isn't it fun to figure out how to use a pattern to inspire and you can tweak it to make it your own. Thank you for making knockers, it's making a huge difference in so many lives.

Very helpful! I notice when I switch from using this stitch in the round to flat, for a section of a garment for instance, the knitted fabric looks slightly different between the in-the-round sections and the flat sections. Is that usual or did I do something wrong? I made sure the flat sections were even numbers of stitches. thank you!
@jennyknits
@jennyknits 7 ай бұрын
I think it's probably because when you are working in the round you have a more even stride with just knitting. Once you go back and forth and add purling, it makes our tension kind of go wonky. If the stitches look too big, you might go down a needle size for that area. Thanks for watching.
