I'm curious how many miles you think you had to walk the bike? Really impressive feat! Hope to join the club someday soon.
@colpolka
@colpolka 13 күн бұрын
Best guess would be that 5-10% of trail was hike-a-bike, which would mean we were walking maybe 5 miles per day over 13 day trip. Maybe a stronger rider could get away with less walking, but some of the trail is just too steep and in my opinion unrideable with all your gear.

@@colpolka I'm sure I would share that opinion haha. Thanks for the thought out reply. I would have guessed more than that.

Another bikepacker said that you have to hike a bike for a hundred miles on the CO trail. Do you think that's accurate? Is 20% of the trail hike a bike?
@colpolka
@colpolka Ай бұрын
There is certainly a fair amount of hike a bike , 20% sounds like maybe a bit much , perhaps closer to 10%, and mostly climbs since the descents are rideable. If you travel light, and run a small chain ring 30 or less you may be able to clear more than we were able to. Overall a great experience, and highly recommended if you have the time to complete the trail

@@colpolka that's about what my estimate was. I have done the whole trail, but I've done some sections. Thanks!

Great video!! I've been working on my MTB skills and buying packing stuff and planning next summer to not do the whole trail at once but to start doing some overnighters to work on my bikepacking skills and to do a lot of out and back trips then someday when I can get a few weeks off from work or retire whichever comes first to do the whole trail. Great video quality! and love the drone footage!! It's a great way to see Colorado!! The Colorado which not everybody sees.

Hi Rusty! That’s a good idea and I really wish I had done this before taking my bike down! I’ll plan on maybe putting a gear video together in the future to help out prospective bikepackers , as I certainly have some opinions on what worked and what didn’t. In the meantime if you have any gear questions feel free to message me . Cheers!

You would be severely under-biked if you tried this trail with a gravel bike (not that it couldn't be done, but it would be infinitely harder). Full-suspension mtb or hardtail mtb with front suspension is the way to go.

Vermont has some amazing terrain, in fact Stowe and Killington Vermont both have much more vertical than alta.
@itzsynergyyy7551
@itzsynergyyy7551 7 жыл бұрын
Arin Gokdemir Vertical in my opinion vertical doesn't matter a whole bunch unless it's a decent amount. I mean in my opinion Utah snow is just legendary and just nothing can beat it. I skied Snowshoe and while it was very nice it was kind of icy and just compared to Utah skiing down those slopes, I just like Utah more. Plus, right next door at Snowbird you have 3200ft of vertical.

Beautiful video! I'm going there next summer. Question - I have to choose which of my two bikes to bring: full suspension 26er or hardtail 29er. Based on typical Iceland single track, which would be best?
@colpolka
@colpolka 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I would go with full suspension. Didn't see any hardtails while I was out there. The terrain is pretty variable, but in general more on the rocky side and I think well suited for FS riding. Most of the guys out there are riding a style that is closer to enduro than just XC. It's an amazing place, have fun!
