Omg this is so amazing! I just have one question: isn't the rigilene itchy against skin? I've always felt like it was "wrong" to let it be in direct contact with my skin but tbh I've never tried it in a garment haha was the rigilene also directly against the skin on the original VW corsets?
@thedressmakingproject11 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for this comment and the question! :-) Well, the Rigilene is right against the skin, also in the original VW corsets. I think the newest ones have a bit of a different construction so the side seams are encased, but the rest of the boning is pretty much right against the skin. It doesn´t bother me, personally... don´t feel the itchiness there. However, I see how this could be a problem for some. In that case, you can always make a casing for the ridgeline or even whip-stitch some bias tape to cover them up. If you want to have a go at that, I can make a short video explaining the process :-)
@carolinesperidiao17211 ай бұрын
@@thedressmakingproject Hiii! Thanks for the reply! I ended up looking at some old VW corsets and yep, the rigilene is right there! I'm gonna try the whip stitch method you mentioned, seems like a cool idea (also I've been having a hand sewing appreciation moment in life lately 😂)

When you started wrapping yourself on paper and tape I was so relieved, because it's so much easier to understand and replicate than all that patterning mathematics 💀 Adding a quick list of materials would have been very helpful, since you go through a lot of different fabrics and papers for the mockup, but nothing we can't pick up by rewatching the video and making notes. Great video once again ❤ Looking forward to watching your future content!
@thedressmakingproject11 ай бұрын
Yes, the wrapping method might be a bit messy, but it is the most versatile in creating a fitting pattern. Thank you for the list idea, that would have been handy indeed! I will try to remember this for the next videos so they are a bit more craft-friendly.

I know you can't give away industry secrets or anything, but THANK YOU for bringing her work to us. She is a literal icon, and I would ADORE more of these videos. Classic VW is what got me into fashion in the first place, and the way she drapes her fabrics with such beautiful asymmetry is everything I want on my style.

Aww, thank you for this lovely comment! I agree, VW is just the epitome of cool and stylish in my opinion. I have been busy with other projects, but I will try to make more things in that style (and upload videos about it).

Yess! Couldn´t agree more! Andreas is doing an amazing job, but the designs by Vivienne will go down as forever classics in fashion history, no doubt. Currently, I am working on a dress pattern inspired by VW, possibly to use for a wedding dress, but I agree: the jackets, the skirts, everything is so iconic and is a must have!

@@thedressmakingproject hello hello, did you ever make a/the dress? I actually found you because my daughter and I are going to make her wedding dress and she wants it to be in the style of a Vivienne Westwood wedding dress. I was looking for how to get the draping - I know you slash the pattern to open it up to get the added fabric you need but I can't work out how to do it against a corset background. Hmmm. Loved this video, thank you. And I see you put up how to do the pattern - brilliant, thank you. Very good video.
