Unfortunately Ecktachrome isn't the same emulsion it once was, and I would have preferred the return of Kodachrome. Slide film is also far too expensive to be used like I once did.

YOu made this more complicated than it needed to be. You should not have even shown backups (I see THREE external drives?!!?). Whole thing should only initially have had iPad, Cloud, and Classic. Also, your initial arrows to Classic are wrong direction. EDIT: You end up using the initial SSD as the master place for Classic. What was the point of copying images initially from SD card to it, as an extra step, before loading them into iPad LR? You now have the same images on the same hard drive i two different folders, why?

I second the other comment. My joy past time of the last few weeks was scanning all of the family negatives and this has helped me A LOT in setting my workflow and getting the most out of the scans. I've got Canon FD macro lens, the Valoi easy35 and the NLP plug-in and I must say haven't been this excited about a project for a looong time. I think getting a analog SLR of my own or stealing my dad's old one is now inevitable. 😂

Glad It helped! I did a similar project this past summer. Scanning my dad and grandfather negs+slides. NLP is a life saver for scanning at home!

As a country teen in 1970 I went to the city thinking I was going to buy a Pentax from a shop called Photo Continental. However, on the way from the car park, I happened to pass a camera repair shop and decided to check them out. From their repairer's point of view they recommended the Minolta SRT 101 as a better camera. I'm so glad I got that advice. I currently have two in working condition, not the original one that wore out after 25 years of use and abuse. I agree with you that they are a an underrated camera.
@robinferandАй бұрын
They really are tough aren’t they? After this SRT101, my bad bought the Minolta XG2 which I used this past spring and after 5 film advance crank, it broke. The XG line wasn’t the same built quality than the SRT line.

Some good stuff in there, but you seem to give the impression that you want to treat this film stock not like any other slide film and you are wrong im afraid. Slide is always was shot with protecting your hightlights at all costs. Depending what slide film you use, you would always apply colour correction to it to negate any colour casts depending on time of day etc. This film you should always shoot it with a warming filter unless you are in very warm light. The same for Provia 100F as it also will give blue casts in open shadow for example. Also e100 is an 80 or 64 ASA/ISO film, its not truly 100. Seeing its slide you need to be exposing it correctly for what you are shooting as you say, so either giving + or - compensation to whatever you are pointing your meter at. NEVER with slide film go below -2 stops of light from a true midtone as will probably come out black. The same for the opposite, very bright tones you dont want to be going over +21/2 or 2/2/3 over depending if its cool or warm respectively.
@robinferand2 ай бұрын
Not the impression that I wanted to convey. I shoot E100 like any other slide film (But I've only been able to shoot Velvia 50, 100 and Provia). I don't agree with the statement that E100 always needs a warming filter. But you are right, you need to make sure you use the correct filters depending on what you want to achieve. Finally, when shooting E100, I almost always meter for the midtones. Thanks for your feedback :)

Out of all three films involved in this saga, Fuji 400, Ultramax 400 and Superia 400 I really like the “new” Fuji 400 the best because in my humble opinion it has the best skin tones. I’m still amused that folks say this is rebranded Ultramax which it clearly isn’t. I noticed it immediately with my first roll of Fuji 400 and to me that was a very pleasant experience. I’ve been shooting it ever since. I quite like its color palette and it does really well as a street photography film. Thank you so much for sharing this video.

You are right. My results differed because I used a polarizing filter and depending on the angle of polarization, it created different results. Hello Robin. This video is exactly what I was looking for. I've tried applying this workflow to a recent event photoshoot I did, and I'm finding that uploading 4.000 x 80MB photos to the Cloud and then synching them back to LrC might be unfeasible even with a decent internet connection. I'm thinking of culling on the iPad and only syncing the selection (just a few hundred photos instead of thousands) so I can continue on LrC when I get back home. I'll have to test this though. Anyway, thank you very much for this excellent video!
@robinferand2 ай бұрын
Hey Joel. Agreed. it can be quite long depending on the amount of images x your internet connection (even worse when you're on the road). Your idea is quite good. A new update on Lightroom for iPad allows to import images directly onto your ipad local storage. Then you could make a selection and only sync it with LrC. That being said you need an ipad with good storage!

It's hard. For C41, I send it by mail to Kerrisdale Cameras Lab in Vancouver. For E6, I send it to France (NegatifPlus in Paris). For Black and white, I develop myself. All film rolls, I scanned myself as well.

Shooting 2 different lenses kind of defeats the point of a side by side comparison…. Also if the polarizing filter affected warmth on the Fuji 400. The Fuji wouldn’t be consistently warmer. Solid video but the testing is pretty flawed
@robinferand3 ай бұрын
Hi, like I said in both videos not a scientific test. For some images, two different lenses from the same gen. But later on in the video, exact same lens (I swapped after each shot) and exact settings. I even scanned both negatives on the same frame and they look nearly identical. In the end, the stocks might differ in some situations and it's all about what you can find available at your photo store. Here in Europe, Fuji 200 and 400 don't exist and we still have Fuji 200 and X-Tra 400. And once I'm back in Canada, I know I won't purchase Fuji 200 and Fuji 400 if I'm looking for Fuji colours. However, if I want standard consumer film stocks, I'll definitely get the pack of 3 rolls of 36 in Fuji 200 and Fuji 400 becasue they are much cheaper than the Gold and Ultramax. Hope this helps :)

Hi Robin, thanks for the great video! Do you know if there is a catalogue on the ipad created by Lightroom to save all the settings and previews? I guess it should be as you should be able to work without any internet connection. If yes, can we back up this catalogue on a drive and import it on our Mac and then use it with LrC? If we don’t have an internet connection, it could be a great solution to continue on the laptop the editing we started on the ipad.
@robinferand4 ай бұрын
Hello Richard. No, Lightroom Cloud doesn't work with catalogs. Instead, it saves your settings into the cloud and in the cache of your device (same for the preview). However, with some of the latest updates, you can choose to copy images locally on your device (Tablet, smartphone and computer). Those will be saved on the device memory. You can choose later to upload to the cloud I believe.

This could be due to the polarizer I used on both cameras. If the polarization angle slightly differs, it can influence the colours on the final image.

I don't know if it's because of some filter applied during the editing of the video, but the foliage in the first part of the video seems pretty yelloish to me. If it's not because video editing maybe a yellow filter would have produce a more noticeable effect :)
