OMG this video explained so much i I've dealt with for years!! I have joint hypermobility, so even thought my muscles are painfully tight, physical therapists think I'm fine because I have good range of motion 😢 I've dealt with tenderness along my inner hips for years, a popping hip when exercising for 20 years, and just recently, a tender and painful psoas.

Use consistent pressure directly on the tight muscle. We recommend holding the pressure for at least 90 seconds while you relax your body and take slow, deep breaths.

You can see a practitioner or a manual therapist to have them directly work on the muscles for you. Or you can try using other tools that you may already have to see if they'll be effective releasing these key areas.

I just experienced this pain for the first time in my 58 years. I was in so much pain and absolutely miserable. Ibuprofen 800 didn’t help in the least. The only thing that brought me relief was otc Formula 303 muscle relaxers and red light therapy. I had just received the small red light panel. I ordered it for vision and skin improvement. Not knowing much about it, I thank my lucky stars I tried it. I will be trying this exercise, as well. Thank you for posting this helpful video.

If you've never been assessed for this pain before, it's best that you start there and see a practitioner. Muscle tension in the upper back and neck area can cause pain directly in those locations, or they can also contribute to headaches. Learning how to release this tension in the muscles and other ways to calm stress levels can be helpful.

This is great for the front how do you loosen sides and back of the iliacus? Chronic tightness pain. Thanks:)
@AlethaHealth
@AlethaHealth 17 күн бұрын
Can you help us understand what you mean by loosening the sides and back of the iliacus? This muscle lines the inside surface of the pelvic bone, so the only way to access it is by pressing through the front side of the body. There are other muscles on the outside and back side of the pelvic bone. Perhaps you are referring to these areas?

If you locate the muscle causing pain, are you supposed to do the corresponding muscle on the opposite side? I wasn't sure whether just doing one side would cause an imbalance.
@AlethaHealth

It's always a good idea to check in with both sides. Even if you know you are tighter on one side, many people are holding some level of tension on each and would benefit from releasing both.

So I just happen to come across this tool at a second hand store and bought it off a whim. And the reason I bought it was That's some years ago while climbing a steel frame wooden panel fence as I got to the top I slipped on the metal frame about 6 feet from the ground and "karate kicked liked"threw a couple of wooden panels and fell on my front left hip. Went to the ER blah blah blah got scanned and one night you know the whole nine yards and nothing nothing nothing but yeah I was in crutches. And recently I just been getting pain in the general area. Now here I am your videos and noticing how emotional and passionate you are about this general area per se gets me all emo... Oh yeah your gorgeous AF.!

Honestly this is absolutely guarantee to relieve. Used it only once 4 days ago at a friend's house. Yes, it's difficult to 1st use because you don't know what to properly do at first, but once you figure it out, ohh my lord the release, blood flow, and circulation feeling of pressure and tension relief it's hard to even explain. Just like any other useful tool or piece of equipment, if used properly the results pay divided. My word is gold I promise you on this amazing device. Last 3/4 days I've got back all of my mobility, full body motion and flexibility as well as feeling all my confidence to move quickly again and have no sence of hesitation before i move. I'm 47 yrs old, in really good sharp and normally feel great, had a stumble playing pickelball 2 yrs ago and haven't felt the same since, always an awkward feeling now n again when bending over. I Thought I had a sports Hernia for damage to joints or ligiments that just would not heal properly. Needless to say I no longer feel this pain anymore or discomfort after using this magical instrument.

@@AlethaHealththanks for your reply. I’m wondering if there is a tool available for compressing the arm area. @AlethaHealth
@AlethaHealth 17 күн бұрын
It sounds like your symptoms are related to compression in the carpal tunnel. If that is the case, the Range may not help. However, releasing tension in your pec minor and neck will help support the nerves as they travel from your neck into your arm, potentially decreasing the irritation at the wrist and hand.

@AlethaHealth
@AlethaHealth Ай бұрын
If the twisting effect of the pelvis and spine is being caused by tightness and imbalance in the hip flexors, it is important that you are addressing both the iliacus and psoas. Other tools are designed for the psoas muscle only. The Mark (Hip Hook) can apply vertical pressure into the psoas + it can rotate to deliver angular pressure to the iliacus on the inside of the pelvic bone. Being able to release both muscles with the Mark alongside a balanced full body program would give you a higher chance of success with improving scoliosis caused by this kind of hip flexor muscle imbalance compared to other tools that only address the psoas.

Hi. Are we only dealing with lumbar scoliosis in this scenario? Seems logical. But is there a chance it could cause thoracic scoliosis or make it worse?
@AlethaHealth
@AlethaHealth Ай бұрын
No, this is not limited to lumbar scoliosis. The impact of a tight iliacus starts with a rotation of the pelvis. Many people have one side tighter than the other, which creates a twisting of the pelvis. This causes a cascade of rotations and bending that works its way all the way up the spine, through the thoracic area.

The best way to release tension in the iliacus is by applying direct pressure to the muscle for at least 90 seconds. After this, you'll find that other stretches and exercises commonly given at PT become more helpful. Does your PT ever do manual work on your hip flexors?

@AlethaHealth
@AlethaHealth Ай бұрын
Tension in the hip flexors and deep hip rotators like the obturator internus often go hand in hand. They are on opposing sides of the hip and get into a battle of tug of war, and they both exert and external rotation force on the femur.

It's something different. The TFL Ball is a lacrosse ball that we included as a free gift in some of our past holiday promotions. The Orbit could also be used to perform these releases, but the smaller sized ball is better for these smaller muscle areas.

A tight iliacus will cause an anterior pelvic rotation, so releasing the iliaucs is an important first step. This can be done by seeing a manual therapist to work on this area for you, or if you have our iliacus hip flexor release tool (called the Mark Hip Hook) then you can work on this yourself from home. Following this muscle release technique with other stretches and exercises can further support restoring balance in the muscles so your pelvis stays in a better position.

@@nevik2 Don't give up is all I can say, It will take time and patience to learn how to lay on it properly and then learn how to pull on that muscle but the key is being completely relaxed while laying on it properly otherwise it will not work to its full potential. At first I felt completely uncomfortable and couldn't fully relaxed and my breathing became heavier because I was scared of injuring myself while doing it but once I got the spot right and I pulled the lever oh my goodness, the magic happens. Keep trying, be patient n don't get frustrated. Learn to position it first on your hip while standing, next place it on the ground and lay on it the same exact way you had it while standing, soft spot, fully relaxed then slowly push lever down, it should hook the muscle and pull it outwards slightly n you'll feel the sensation I promise bro.

Question. At 1:30, you say a tight iliacus rotates the leg inward, and then later in the video you say the iliacus is an external rotator. Can you clarify?
@AlethaHealth
@AlethaHealth Ай бұрын
Great question, we'd be happy to clarify. The first scenario when standing refers to the orientation of the hip joint relative to the pelvis. A tight iliacus pulls the pelvic bone forward into an anterior rotation, which changes the orientation of the hip joint and makes it go into internal rotation. In the other scenario, because the iliacus acts on the femur as an external rotator, a tight iliacus will cause the leg to rotate outward when lying down. Does this make sense?

You need to release the tension in the key muscles the video talks about, such as the iliacus and the piriformis. Once those muscles are relaxed, the pelvis will be in a better alignment and the SI joints will be able to move and function better, without pain.

is it normal to have problems with iliopsoas when you have Ol problems?
@AlethaHealth
@AlethaHealth 2 ай бұрын
Yes, the iliopsoas and OI are commonly tight together. The iliopsoas is typically what develops tension first, as it is the larger muscle that is used in more daily actions (i.e. sitting, walking, running, etc.). Because the iliopsoas also acts on the hip joint as an external rotator, it makes the other hip external rotators more likely to develop tension. This includes the OI, piriformis, and the other of the "deep 6" hip rotators.

@@AlethaHealth could this cause your leg/foot to turn out when sitting or standing? and how many times a week would you use the hip hook? :)
@AlethaHealth
@AlethaHealth Ай бұрын
Yes! At first, you'd likely want to use the Hip Hook with greater frequency (e.g. daily or at least every other day) to help the muscles learn to stay more relaxed. Over time, you'd use it on more of a maintenance schedule (e.g. 2x per week or less often) since we continue to put ourselves in positions or participate in other activities that will use the hip flexors and make them want to be tight.

@AlethaHealth
@AlethaHealth 2 ай бұрын
That's great to hear! Lying down over the Mark (Hip Hook) is the best position to help the abdominal muscles to fully relax and let the tip sink in deeper to access the iliacus and psoas muscles. Being on the elbows can be a way to increase the pressure (if you can sufficiently relax in that position). That view also helps people see the tool better for videos and ads so they can actually see the product and understand what it's doing. :)
