My favorite artistic moment in the trilogy is the reveal of Lothric Castle right at the start of DS3. When you open these doors at the start of the High Wall and the whole castle comes into view. Irithyll's reveal is also nice, but somehow I prefer this one.

Huh, I didn't know you could do the Lower Burg skip from there, I usually do it from an earlier place that lands me well before the grassy area with the ambush. Also, I always found it interesting to compare the Hydra fight in this game to that of Dragon's Dogma, which only came out a year later. Different combat systems, I know, but it's such a world of difference. The Dark Souls Hydra is a clunky, confusing mess that becomes a dull chore once you figure out the strategy, meanwhile the Hydra in Dragon's Dogma (post-game, when you can fight it for real) is one of the most fun bosses I've ever fought in any game. Also, double tap to slide down ladders (without holding the joystick).

And concerning Estus refills, it's apparently from other people online kindling a bonfire you've just rested at. I don't know about DS2, but I know from DS3 that it has to be from random mobs, because I play offline and I get refills often.

Tragic, but you learn from your mistakes and you get to spend all that Tar for a better shot next time. I had the same mentality as you, in this brutal early part, I said to myself "Ok, if I can only kill one boss. If I can only get through one other zone, then I'm happy". Once I beat the first boss, I think my next run got me all the way through to the end, where I died like a dumbass to the final boss because of a glitch (I couldn't harden anymore). But don't get in the habit of running past everything. There's a good reason why you need a token to access the boss. If you skip too many upgrade pillars, you will be severely underpowered for the final boss, which has got to be the single most challenging thing in the entire game.

Shoot, I can't watch this, I wanted to play it soon for the first time as well, as soon as I'm done with my new playthrough of DS2. Well, at any rate, I wish you good luck on this. Hopefully better luck than Virtuous Cycle.

That Grisha fight will ruin you if you keep at it. You don't have to do it, it's purely optional. But if you really must, use your Resolve for an AoE special attack, and prioritize dispatching the three Nocteserpers above all. I usually dispatch the one from the entrance I came from, and then I lure the Grisha to that entrance and keep the fight located in this small corner. Also, the Enhanced Harden is incredible. It's basically like a star power-up from a Mario game. At random, you'll see a glowy status effect above your health bar, and the next time you harden, you'll become invincible *and* able to fight back for around 10 seconds. It's a godsend, especially for the brutal final boss.

I'm afraid I didn't vote on that poll, I never even saw it on my feed, oddly enough. You made good progress, even if it ended poorly. I really did not expect you to survive once you started running through the zone, and I thought for certain Vim would wreck you. That was impressive. Just don't lock-on, ever, when you're near an instant-death pit, and when you're offered a raw damage upgrade, always go for that, because sometimes the game is stingy with those, and you really need good damage for the *brutal* final boss. You getting paralyzed at the end is something I warned you about, though it was a while ago, to be fair. It was very funny to watch, so know that your pain was not in vain.
