Still keep the civil war idea going as many skirmishes often occurred but were not always recorded in parish histories and also many temporary camps were never recorded. 15 miles is not far even on foot for a regiment of the period to cover. Also many armies would bury their money before they went into combat and some of it is still hidden waiting to be found. Worth using a GPS to plot your finds on a map. Superb day out

Wow, fantastic silver pocket spill, when I was growing up in the late 1960's and early 1970's and we still used pre decimal money it was very common to still be spending Victorian coins of all denominations, although a lot of the Victorian and early 20th century coins were very worn. Even after decimalisation in 1971 we still used the old sixpences, shillings and florins and they were 2 1/2p, 5p and 10p respectively. I lived next to a Co-op shop and I asked the lady on the till if she would save me all of the old silver coins that were pre 1947 and I went in at the end of every day and swapped her for modern decimal coins and after about 8 months I weighed them in for scrap silver at the local metal detector shop where the owner also bought scrap silver and sold coins and medals and I had enough for a new C-Scope BFO 50 detector with headphones and a bag and several books about metal detecting. Well done on a fantastic session and all the best from Jon and Wendy in Derbyshire. 🙂🙂
