How does the straight wall at the base effect the overall inherent strength of a geodesic dome?

I’m trying to find a good source for the mathematical formulas to get the strut lengths to the long points and the angle/bevel degrees for this method… it is not proving to be an easy task but i MUST KNOW at this point lol

Happy New Year I have one question if you take two climbing 10 ft domes and put them together will it work as a 20-foot dome or will it turn into a giant ball
@Emotofarm22 күн бұрын
So this method, you don’t put a bevel on the timber. It just works off the bevels from the cuts to form the down.

Hi I hope you can help answer my question I am trying to build a dome that is 100 kilometers in height , even if in humour , please let me know how you think it can be accomplished A 200km base with a 100km height. How much you think it could be The plan is to add a elevator and offer space tourism in Canada (we need work) I imagine if we get 100 million people working on putting life on the moon that we can accomplish it very easily Also I believe if we put life on the moon that it will bring peace to our planet cause then we would always have to worry about our people on the moon. Also I believe once we put life on another planet that we'll be able to put life on more planets I hope this interests you

Do you have a plan for double French door at front and single door at the back? I’m interested the 20ft dome. Thanks

Hi there, I have discovered geodesic domes last week researching how to cover a playhouse in my backyard (overkill, I know...). I have been binging your videos and others since that. Loving everything about it! I have lots of 2x6s laying around and would like to use them, but i am wondering what cut to achieve the strongest structure for a 2v 18ft diameter dome. Should I cut the 2x6s into 1x3s and do a deeper frame than the 1x4s you are using in the video? Or should i cut my 2x6s into ~2/3s (with an angle cut of course). It will be the same amount of wood by frame, but I am wondering wether the deep frame profile really adds strength or not. (considering that we snow sometimes in NJ and I would like to add a swing from the top... Let me know what you think. Thank you so much in advance.
@johnnybayles7412Ай бұрын
The deep frame definitely adds strength. You could rip 2x6 in half and do the deep frame method on my 18' dome plans and it would work a treat

@@johnnybayles7412 thank you! And of course, you might have notice I meant cutting my 2x6s into 1x6s an not 1x3s...

I am intrested in building a 30 ft + vome. Are there details on the changes to the lengths for other domes? If 4 ft maximum length menbers builds a 29-30 ft vome' does 6 ft maximum lengths make a 45 ft diameter dome? I have the space' tools' and 35 years experience as a builder. I live in a 12sided 8ft each round house 3 stories with an arched roof 16 ft peak. Not Geodesic. I went through 6 structural engineers' two of them twice while I was building it. I'm 80 years old and building a geodesic/Vome is on my bucket list. I loved your You Tube video.
