The writer Douglas Adams (author of Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy) said the secret of learning to fly was: Throw yourself at the ground... and miss... Something similar applies to EUC's... I think... 🤔

Re gap between legs and wheel... I'd say: try to keep your legs in a tight A position... your legs straight, and hugging the wheel continuously... The reason is: You want to keep your body upright, and make the wheel become an extension of you... then you speed up, slow down, and stear by gentle tilting of your body... When you can ride, you may encounter Wheel Wobble... this is when, pivoting on the contact point with the road, the wheel moves left and right... If your legs hug the wheel, there is no gap for the wheel to wobble in, and you solve the problem before it starts... I find stearing using your ankles, as though stood on a platform is not a good idea... you just do not have the power to control... But, I guess every rider experiments, and picks a style that they like...

You can buy training wheels, which attach to the footrests...so you can't fall off, even if not moving... ... It restricts movement to the left and right, but if you adjust the height, as you progress, the turning circle decreases. Eventually, your leg muscles grow stronger, you get used to standing a few inches taller, you stand straight, without flailing arms, and you can remove one or both training wheels... I made my own, before I realised you can buy them..

Over a period of 5 years, I've fallen off maybe twice... early on... ... once going through frozen rutted ground, I think I went up the side of a rut, the wheel slipped, and I landed on my back... I was wearing helmet, wrist guards... and a weight lifters belt... which protected my back... My EUC is supposed to have a top speed of 30mph... I think the beeps are at about 19mph... and I've never done 25mph... ...which is probably why I've only fallen off twice in 5 years...

That is the first time I've ever heard of storing a wheel at full charge; most will suggest getting it to 40-60% for that.

You should be super padded up for anything going fast, even people like Adam from Wrong way or Chooch still fall, don't become a meat crayon.

@TheBergMan I'm hoping you can shed some light on my questions as, I'm planning on buying this wheel in the future. First and foremost, love your videos and watch them all the time. So, my question is, would you recommend this as a starter wheel for beginners? Is there a way to adjust suspension (just like all of the other EUC wheels out there)? and do you experience any back splash on your back when riding this in rain? Thanks!

Lol I've done longboarding, MTB, skateboarding, gymnastics, and other sports, but have only broken my wrist while riding an EUC 😅 wrist guards may not be utterly essential but if you're trail riding pretty fast it's a good idea

Dont worry about your expensive wheel falling and getting scuffed or chipped by getting a cheap starter wheel. I paid around $66 for an airwheel x3. Its like 20 lbs, goes 10 mph so you can pretty much either adjust your stance or step off without stubbing your toe into the ground which causes you to fall on your face. This is great if you work in a large building and have to commute to the other side often.

Excellent advice, very nuanced for starters specially on the important things like mounting and dismounting, its one of the most important things to learn to gain confidence to ride / commute.

Awesome instructional for stand up riding. Probability the best I’ve seen yet. The first part actually made me think I might try it. The part where your ankle went at a weird angle spooked me. I’ve been Onewheeling a long time and always loved manual unicycles. For me, unicycles were a sit down thing so I bought a T4 because it had a seat, off-road tire, shocks, right size and price. I found riding seated is much more difficult than standing because your legs help you control better instead of just your hips. Feels exactly like sit down hydrofoiling (Air chair) vs standup. Actually, I was after something different with a EUC. I had the idea I wanted a kind of on wheeled pit style on/off road toy so I mounted a Surron seat, grab handle, and upgraded pedals. It was a very challenging endeavor for sure. You are so right about the importance of safety gear for the confidence factor as well as it’s essential for your safety. To be honest, sitting down riding feels way safer to me because I’m closer to the ground. It took me months and a couple of falls but I absolutely love riding this thing. I now only ride sitting and I’m starting to try little Bmx track stuff. It’s absolutely a blast and I’m so glad I did this thing. I’m also glad I can have both the Onewheel, Emtb, and this thing. I’m having so much fun with these electric toys, I can hardly get myself motivated to play with my water toys anymore. Now I can “ride waves “in all different ways right from front door. Keep on charging!

Great video, you are putting it to good use, getting the max out of it. The torque comes from the small diameter. That makes it so eager to accelerate. I don't think bigger wheels can match that unless they have much more power. But for that power the motor will also be bigger, thus slower to get moving.
