Great video! I totally agree with your points . In my experience, I've also found that your tips can be really helpful. For more details on that, I made a video about it on my channel The Pet Perspective.

I'm researching into starting to look for my retired Service Dog's successor. I found in CA, 2 male Malinois brothers at a rescue and adoption place. I thought I was going to relocate from where I am presently living since my plans of moving west was prevented when Covid happened. Waiting on other housing I still want to get started on training of new Service Dog. Finding the right dog is hard since here in New Mexico I'm without transportation since losing everything just before Covid. I'm wondering would you change anything in your obedience training shown in these 2 videos for someone like me training for a Service Dog? Watching your Malinois jump on you and grab onto the tugs I feel like the dogs are learning for the outcome of being guard dogs or patrol dogs for military or police work. Yet not all my thoughts are wanting a Service Dog just for mobility needs. During the Covid situation I and my Service Dog went through some serious life-threatening things to where I have PTSD from our threatening attacks, so having a Service Dog to have more training than my retired S.D. now. Although I never had to train the safeguarding of my life... she has several times in the 12 yrs. of her Service saved my life from attacks. She still is so in tune to life threatening problems she still handles it all, even at 17 yrs. in age she is still cares for me. For just the initial training for new Service Dog will take over a yr. to maybe 2 yrs. but with the other training for maybe like my other dog was so smart at detecting cancer cells way before my friend went to doctor for medical updates with testing for cancer. If you happen to know of any organizations that will do state to state transporting of rescue/adoption dog I wish to bring her to me in NM. I'd appreciate all help you can think of contacting.

Thank you, Thank you. I wish I had enough money to donate to your fav animal rescue/vets. I recently adopted a 13 mo old Shepherd/Husky mix from a rescue shelter. She's a beaut and easily trained. It's been a month and I am beginning to start her "heel" training. I am having an issue with her being distracted by the treats in my apron. Please understand I have all the patience necessary. I once spent five hours in a Verizon store waiting for service. So, she's in good hands. Any suggestions? I apologize if you have already recommended an apron in the past but her nose is super sensitive. Love your vids and can't thank you enough... All I can do is subscribe right now and will encourage all of my pet loving family/friends to do the same. Nate

Food? Toys? Seriously? These are bribes to produce parlor tricks. Establish true connection with the dog-- when working with them, employ undivided, laser focus and require the same of the dog. This establishes mutual respect and a work ethic. Truly trained behavior is done just because-- not in exchange for something. Like your kid brushing their teeth twice a day. We don't reward for this; it is simply what we do. If you figure out how to communicate your wishes without crutches and bribes, add some patience and flexibility to account for the individual dog's threshold of tolerance for pressure, you will open a dimension of connection and collaboration you never dreamed possible with a dog that will give you the shivers and cause you to choke up and cut the odd tear. It is THAT profound when you do it right with a talented dog.

In Sweden we cannot use crates like you it is not leagal... And still we have good polise Dsd dogs and in military service we can have Belgian malinois and Rottweiler so its very difficult for us to connect with what you say about the crates outside in a dog yard we have rules of a small Flat almost people live smaller than a dog does... But if I would have my dog in a crate my neighborhood would call the police on mee...

Holy smokes! Would have never guessed this opinion and some alternative suggestions would create such a fuss. Andy, I love watching your videos. Love your enthusiasm. Appreciate you sharing your opinions and what has worked for you. My first mal is about 8 months. No issues to worry about but I’ll definitely be implementing a bunch of your techniques. I have already started to do so and he is getting much more of a workout! 🙏

I love his show and thisjust summarizes and lays out all of the basic methods he uses on the show. What i love about this guide kzbin.infoUgkxKkYeOoCV_w2vPX0CSyVWkhew2c4FYk0d is that you don' need to read the whole book cover to cover ... You can skip to the chapter (lesson) you want to read about. The book is arranged almost as a problem-solving guide ... Here is the problem and here is what you need to know/do to correct it. This man knows his stuff ... But more importantly knows how to teach people how they can work with their pups themselves!

Main question now- how do you teach them to constantly eat out of your hand? My German baby would stop after eating one so.. what do you do if that happens?

I pull elisted and foster Malinois & German Shepherds from shelters that have been failed by people, get them to decompress and trust again to be adopted, then with a very little amount of effort and dedication these dogs are phenomenal and so want to please. Mental stimulation is so critical and it doesn’t take hours a day to make them happy! Thanks for these videos.

I have 5 Imported German Shepherds. 1 male, 4 females. I have been doing something similar for 3-4 years. I do it a little differently, I do it as a group. It takes a little longer because there are 5. Four will sit and wait, I call 1, do a heal, go through 4 weave poles, do a wait, i send them to a platform about 6" off the ground, (I have a platform for training stacking or standing still when at the vet, for being weighed, or groomed..) They have to hold a wait on the platform for a few, and when I release, I toss their tug or ball on a rope. They bring it back and go sit while i call for the next dog to do it. It actually goes fairly fast because we aren't focusing on obedience perfection, just stimulation, patience and burning energy. Also working and playing with distractions and playing nice. No competing because it's 1 dog at a time.

Respectfully disagree - people not knowing how to play with their dogs is not because of the dog park, it’s because they never actually played with their dog when they weren’t taking them to the dog park. I raised my shepherd by playing with him walking and also taking him to Parks, he is high discipline during play and will let go of toys on command, the issue is people not training their dogs it’s not the dog park in itself. Same goes for behavior at the dog park, teaching your dog dos and dont at the dog park. I did this with my 3 year old shepherd and am now agai. Doing it with our new puppy addition. A dog park is another opportunity to train, everything you do every moment is an organic opportunity to train. The issue is people are lazy and or don’t know how. I’m not going to sit here and state there isn’t a risk at all dog park but there is a risk in most things one does. Risk is greater for soft breeds who can’t hold their own, my shepherds even as puppies never had an issue cuz they aren’t soft dogs easily pushed around. Plus one must act as rhe leader and make the dogs feel secure. My dogs have never gotten hurt bc they are simply more dominant more powerful than almost 99% of dogs there. That includes full male shepherds, my male was at equivalent size at 1 when the dog tried to scare him he didn’t take his *** .
