Congrats Johnathan! I'm from Ecuador and been following your channel since 5 or 6 years ago. Your tutorial/playthroughs are the best way to teach/learn games. Thank you for doing your job the way you do!

Very clear instructions. I love the timestamps you give to skip to another section as well as skipping to the specific part of the video that later dives into the mechanic you're talking about. All tutorials should be constructed like this. 5/5!

Thank you for the clear explanation. Every other video over-complicates this game.

Glad that you changed the name of your channel if it's been bothering you for so long! Personally I don't get branding per se - I just subscribe to the channels with content that I find useful. I think that your how to play videos are fantastic. I especially like the way that you show different players following distinct strategies and explain their reasoning as you go. The drawback with focusing on how to play videos is that viewers will most likely only tune in for games that they already want to learn how to play. As a content creator, you naturally want to focus on presenting the games that you are passionate about. But when you cover less popular/known games, you'll naturally attract fewer views.

Jonathan, I love your play-throughs - your teaching method is excellent and has taught me games I never thought I could get through. Congrats on the new name. I look forward to learning new games with you!!

If you make a playthrough for a game I am interested in, I will ALWAYS watch you (although I prefer a FULL playthrough). But you did not make playthroughs for hugely popular 2023/2024 games/campaigns: Civolution, Speakeasy, Castles of Burgandy Special Edition, Age of Innovation, Terraforming Mars automa, Dune Imperium Uprising, Clans of Caledonia expansion, Puerto Rico Special Edition, Galactic Cruise, Inventors of the South Tigris...

Great news about your channel’s name change, even though I was hoping that meant you were focusing on giving hint on how to get games for free or at a high discount… what a missed opportunity! 😅

One advantage of being called Jonathan in French (same spelling, suave French pronunciation :) ) is that there is no abbreviation for it. You should maybe move there. :) I loved jongetsgames as a name. It did the trick and has become a respected brand. But whatever you call it, your channel is excellent. What matters is that you are happy with it. Good luck with the rebranding!

Interesting! I've visited France ~6 times (I have family in Limoges) and no one has ever mentioned this to me! Thanks for the encouragement, it is odd moving away from a more "unique" name, but I do think this is for the best for me.

Sorry, Jon. New name is too generic. Reminds me of Google. Lost the personal touch of having your name in it. Lightbulb was also more distinctive. Why not use jonathangetsgames?

Good for you😌 I remember the early videos (11y!) and definitely associate you and the channel being a real part of this golden age of board games.

Wow, that's quite the statement to internalize! I'm glad I've been helpful after all this time, 11 years really is shocking.

I think the red player cheated, it seems like they always knew what the blue player was going to do. :) And yeah, I agree with another comment, it does look like a Rummicube / quirkle combo. Might check this one out.

Ha! I generally try to have the players play like they don't know, but I also cheat sometimes to orchestrate interesting moves :)

Great video Johnathan! I have always enjoyed watching your how to plays, and I love how you introduce potential strategies to try out during your playthroughs. Whenever I have a new game I want to learn, I have my fingers crossed that you have done a teach. I think your new channel name great too - and connects well with your old name and branding. I think it's important that you are happy with the change. Thankfully, its you and your personality which are the most enjoyable and strongest connections to the branding of the channel. Best of luck in 2025 and beyond!

Fun fact for a DIY Mutation: 18 is also the exact number of dice per color you will find in a base game Sagrada box 😉 Definitely going to give it a whirl, good luck with all the changes this year!
@GettingGames18 сағат бұрын
Whoa! Also, I've wondered what 5p Mutation would be like but don't have a 5th color, but in Sagrada there are enough dice for that too! Small dice for stacking, but that is super cool to know!

22:42 is that a legal move? The blue 2 and green 2 would be next to a green 3, albeit, temporarily. I’m not sure if the arrangement is all simultaneous so it doesn’t count as illegal as the arrangement isn’t done yet or if you can never break the rule for the rows/columns. Also, this game has some rummikub vibes to it, which is interesting.
@frankthetank03309123 сағат бұрын
the rearrangement is all simultaneous, so you can freely reconfigure as long as everything is legal again prior to placing your new tiles!

19:23 you could have also placed the yellow 9 above the blue 9

If we'd place on the row, yes, but in this case I placed into a column with the two 7s.

The new name is great. Your channel is one of the best on demonstrating games as you explain the rules and some potential strategies. At 14:37 you mention that single pieces need to be removed when part of a four-in-a-row and that this is a difference with Original Gipf. It is not the case. Also in Original gipf all single pieces have to be removed (while double stacked pieces can remain or be removed).

I've watched your how to play many times for a refresher, but never ventured into your review until now... And I totally agree about your point with the advanced building selection. It seems very unusual that you would pick these upfront. I've always had it in my head to implement a variant which allows you to still start with a free room, but at every night phase, add a step where you can draft a tableau of them based on turn order... which would also add even more weight to going first.

@GettingGames18 сағат бұрын
No, I decided to stop taking rulebook writing projects mid-way through last year. They were not worth the strife and the stress they added to my video schedule. I am still doing rulebook editing and proofing though, that's the part I enjoyed the most anyway :)

Congrats on the changes Jonathan! Love the new name and logo. They are both a perfect fit for the channel!! Really proud to be one of your "Producers" as you make some of the board game content out there. Sorry the numbers are down, but remember you also have lots of faithful supporters!! Don't change too much. If you keep doing what makes you happy, that will naturally trickle down into your videos. :)

Hi Jonathan! I wanted to say that I watch a ton of playthrough and how to play videos as they are my preferred way to learn games. I have been watching your videos for years and I can tell you that I of the dozens and dozens of channels that make how-tos and playthroughs, your videos are some of the best. You are very detailed, very clear, very understandable. The way that you present the information just somehow clicks with me. I struggle with learning games and I get intimidated by rulebooks sometimes. My go to channels to look for when I need to learn a game are definitely either your videos or game night videos. If those are not available I will look for Rahdo or Rodney. Next choice I would look for a video from Ant Labs or Meeple University. Those are my go-to options. I find if I can watch a video or two from those 6 channels, I can usually learn a game pretty easily. Otherwise, it can sometimes be a bit more of a challenge for me. I don't know if you get a lot of feedback about this kind of stuff but I hope you know that your playthough teachings of games really do bless so many people who struggle with learning rules. It means a lot to me. I totally get why you are making the name change and I think it's a fantastic idea and I agree it feels more professional. You have a fan over here and I just wanted to say thank you! Keep on doing what you do. You have no idea how many thousands of people appreciate you so much!
