UCO Benetton accounts for only 2% of the total Benetton group and it’s been losing money since 2012. This year no less Luciano Benetton left the company and spoke out against the now former CEO who apparently lied about the brand whole performance. I believe it will die rather soon. Whilst Zara and H&M have full control of their stores (including brand management, curation of the stores, items being sold etc) the franchised focus of Benetton makes it almost impossible for the company to control what small local retailers are doing with the brand. I believe they will disappear. They’re still present (in Europe and Asia mostly, that is) because of what it means for the Benetton family, nothing else. Ps: vintage Benetton pieces are to die for

I remember being a BR customer first back in 2005. I was 24 years old. These were the times when men go to club dressed like Neyo and Justin Timberlake moments. Some of my items like the vest and some sweaters and poplin shirts from that era I still wear til this day. It also helped I'm still the same size from 2005 all along til now I'm a 42 year old. I've always loved this brand for its quality pieces at fair prices. They also have insane markdowns! I also like the aesthetic of their new stores.

Why does it matter?? if a person has the money to spend they can do whatever they want with it and to hell with people who want to judge them for it.

The Banana Republic in my town closed recently and in it's place is a J. Crew Factory store. I think the problem was people aren't willing to pay the prices for the quality they were seeing. Meanwhile, my local Evereve, Athleta and Lululemon are doing well

I have been a BR loyal customer for many years. I buy a lot of items online, sometimes if you order the same item in different colors, the country of manufacture changes and so the fabric and the quality changes. Very frustrating.

that's a very important thing to note. we often overlook the country of manufacture when shopping and end up being disappointed

That is exactly why I have stopped shopping there. As a former BR customer of over 10 years, I stopped shopping because their fabric quality no longer matches the price point. They used to offer good quality fabrics, and clothing items you bought from them would last. But they kept, and sometimes even raised, their prices while selling fast fashion-quality fabrics. As for the styles, instead of getting better, they got worse and really boring! I have sweaters from BR dating back to 2008. That is the type of fabric quality they should be offering at their current price points. Anything less is unacceptable!

I love Prada out of a handful of designer's I truly like but, Prada is Hella expensive. I love the Prada cloudburst sneakers I just bought. I can't believe how she came up with the design. They are fire! I'm glad I got my pair and found them for $600 instead of $1,300. My mom was even mesmerized by the look. She called them punk rock. I didn't notice nut they do have a punk rock like style.

I went to the Prada store last week and they treated me really kindly. They really truly only are about getting someone to buy and out the store because when I was leaving because they didn't have the sneakers I wanted. Someone seem as if they wanted to come into the store but it was too late. They were closed and the door man made a smart remark like, "That's right, keep moving!" I laughed but thought wow!

Yes, I definitely remember the safari era of Banana Republic. This is why they gave the company that name. In the 1990s, it became the more upscale end of the Gap umbrella (Old Navy was the value end.) I don't know if it was ever considered Old Money style. That might have been on the Ralph Lauren custoner's mind, but Banana customers were just looking for popular priced, on trend clothes. It wasn't really an aspirational brand. It was affordable.

I agree, this brand needs to return to its core values, classic styles in top-quality fabrics. That certainly the only apparel many of us will buy. As people are dressing better, more elegantly now, they have a good opportunity to take advantage of this.

BR was great a year ago, but then they started introducing a lot of cheap polyester items. I hope they bring back their great 100% wool, breathable-lining jackets and coats, including leather/suede ones. Fortunately, I did stock up last autumn and winter on many quality items from them.

I loved esprit. I stopped buying last Christmas because the prices sky rocket. Jackets that normally were £150 were in the site for £300. Then they put red label and it feels cheap so I turned to M&S and Mango. Sadly just yesterday I found out the brand doesn't exist anymore.

I have enjoyed shopping at Banana Republic for years now. I think they did hit their stride 4 or 5+ years ago. The quality was amazing and styles were infinitely wearable. They lost people when they got a little too fashion forward and the prices went up quite a bit. You can still find some nice pieces on sale (which they have pretty often), so that's when I buy their beautiful classic but current pieces. Leave the younger customers to H&M - they will be happy with the fast fashion and low price points. Keep the older customers who can pay a little higher prices (but not too high or they are going to defect to Banana Republic Factory) These customers like something stylish yet classic with good quality. Problem solved. Oh, and don't bother with the "safari" look - its time has passed.

I don’t remember a lot about Banana Republic in the beginning but I do remember going into one of those safari looking stores. It looked the rich man’s version of an REI store. Later it became was of those lines for career professionals and young people with money when it when GAP took it over. At the time I didn’t feel comfortable shopping in there because of the size of my wallet and me. But I did shop with my best friend there and she bought certain items either at full price or on clearance and they were classic pieces. I didn’t start shopping there until I lost my “mommy “weight. It was still pricey but now I had the confidence to wear it. When they revitalized the brand and making it a life style store it became the brand it was before fast fashion and so did their prices 😮. So, I started shopping at the BR Factory Store. The Factory Store had BR’s style without the expensive price tag. I know it may not be on par with the regular stores, but when you are on a budget you watch your dollars. PS, I have enjoyed your videos and while I may not be able to afford most of the lines you talk about, I can appreciate your stories.
