Difference between '99 and '01 Cobra exterior wise: The '99 Cobra for some reason.. Ford made it look more like a V6. It has half scoops, the "Mustang" bumper instead of the "Cobra" bumper. The lettering also blends in with the bumper as opposed to the white color. '99 Cobra also shows "SVT Cobra" badging in the rear. '01/'03 Cobra's just said "SVT". I could be wrong but the '01 Cobra looks a bit lowered from the factory too. The '99 Cobra still has the 4x4 suspension from out of the factory like the V6 and GT. Also Hoonhead I'm not bashing on your car so I don't mean to sound it like that.

All new Edges looked like that from the factory except the 03/04 Cobra and 03/04 Mach 1 . Those were lowered from the factory

All the negativity about the hp #'s was resolved with a recall by Ford. I bought my 1st Rio Red '99 Cobra from the original buyer in Florida. It was a great experience in December 2015. Had 119,000 mi on the clock. It was in great condition. Made a LOT of suspension changes and installed 2000R Cobra wheels with 275/35 Bridgestone Potenza. Before I could really enjoy my efforts and move on to drivetrain improvements, a low-life ricer in a red Nissan Z wrecked me: I was not racing the B-hole, but as he passed me he caught my right rear corner, put me in a slide in traffic - a head-on collision was the end of my first Redhead. The Nissan Z did not stop, hit & run! POS. All was not lost: I was able to sell the wrecked car and collect insurance such that I made a $1k profit when compared to the purchase price, parts and labor of the mods I added. I acquired a 2nd Rio Red Snake in April 2021 with only 36,000 miles on it. Whohooo!! I'm up to 45k miles to date (Dec 2023). The suspension will again get a complete overhaul, with frame stiffening and tubular K-member, lower control arms up front and tubular in the rear, too. Kenny Brown Performance really loves making this New Edge Cobra perform on track. And the power to weight ratio is indeed superior to anything new. I bought the "RedHood" for $16,300. Have thought about selling it for $25k. But, I am going to keep my "redhead." The after-market is still pumping out parts and there are fewer and fewer of these ladies to be stroked.

The 99 Cobras were a •disaster• for FORD! The 320hp was not the real hp...those engines Dyno'd far below 320 and the 0-60 times weren't any faster than a 93 Lx Fox body 5.0. FORD mustang owners who purchased them claimed that ALL of the low end torque was non existent and that the modular engine was a disappointment. Due to the massive amount of complaints from loyal Mustang owners, , Ford "literally" pulled the 99 Cobras from production in1999.

I remember that scandal. It was max cringe seeing Ford deny, deny, deny, stonewall, deny (no Facebook or YT back then) only for fed up owners to dyno their cars and see HP numbers no better then the earlier SN95 4.6 motor. Confronted with thousands of complaints with dyno charts stapled to the letters, Ford fessed up . They stopped sales and promised to release the cars when they solved the power problem. That day never came. This scandal is a large reason why the ‘04 Terminator was a beast. Ford had a lot to make up for & John Coletti saw to it five years later there’d be no repeat of Cobragate

That is absolutely horse shit lol. They weren't fling 0-60 same as a 93 fox lol. Fox body's did it in like 6.4 these were mid to high 5s with ease even with the power issue. They had intake manifold casting issues and catback issues. Once the catback is changed and the intake is change or ported there is no issue ans they would dyno exact same as a 2001 with the same mods. People highly exagerate this whole 99 cobra thing. It was a stain on ford's rep but it's mostly because people didn't even understand what the problem is other than they're down on power. People act like it's a compression issue or problem with the heads or something else major and it isn't. Super easy fix and I think all have been fixed by Ford by now. It's a non issue for anyone wanting to mod. Do a ported intake and aftermarket catback and you'll make same power as a 2001 with those same mods. With those simple fix and 4.30 gear they'll go 0-60 deep into the 4s and run as quick as alot of heads cam intake fox bodies.

@LowSpeed_HighDrag do you know why they were down on power? If not read up it's very minor and isn't anything to worry about. They canceled the 2000 because they were fixing all the 99 cobras. Do you know what the "fix" was? I'll give you a hint it's not a big deal to anyone modding.

Such a disaster omg intake manifold casting issues causing power loss and a restrictive catback exhaust that caused power loss. Wow such a huge stain on Ford how dare they lol. Ported intake fbo 99 will will make exact same power as a ported intake fbo 01. It's the same car once the intake manifold has been ported or changed and the catback is changes which 99% of the time is guys first mod anyway. Not a big deal at all honestly they've all been fixed but even if they weren't it isn't a problem to anyone who plans on modding the car..

❤I had a rare 1999 Sho wagon. Probably the only one. I loved that beast. Never knew how great these cars were till 20 years later, I went out and bought a sedan and will get another as a daily driver. These cars are awesome ❤

I have the 01 Bullitt, and the 03 anniversary cobra. I love the car but your hp is wrong Maybe 300 if you're lucky Ford lied on that year car.

You don't know what you're talking about. You really think they weren't all fixed by now? Do you even know why the power was down or you just regurgitating the same crap you see elsewhere? All it was was intake manifold casting issues and catback issues. Once the intake is changed or ported and you go with an aftermarket catback which is like the first thing 99% of owners do anyways then they make the exact same power as a 2001 with the same mods. Most were fixed by Ford but if it isn't it's super simple to fix. Do a ported intake and aftermarket catback and problem solved. It's not like it's a head problem or internal engine issue. People highly over exaggerate the 99 cobras and their "power issue" most don't even know what the issue was other than "they were dynoing less power than stock was supposed to be when stock" but most don't know the why.

@@midnight347 You make it sound so easy. "Yeah bro just get your intake ported". No. A lot of people ddn't bother to actually go back to Ford to change it. These idiots sold it and never fixed the issue, so the second owner was unaware, who would eventually sell the car to another owner who would continue the trend of not knowing or being too lazy, which majority of car owners are especially if they know they're selling the car again.

I just traded my 01 I had for 21 years ( mint condition) for an 08 mustang with 28,000 miles on it ! Love the sound and light change option on the dashboard. I’m mid lifing it to the olde town road lol . Have to get the water cabin leak looked into . Don’t understand why ford continue to make 5 years knowing the issues .

@@PeePee666PooPoo yeah but the 2013 is a na car that can run mid 12s and with just tires and a clutch run 11s. Supercharged and twin turbo the mustang is a far more potent weapon. The SHO is a pig. Beating a stock mustang is not impressive when you got boltons. You probably are making more power than that mustang and winning by 1 second. Put the same mods and a eBay twin turbo in that mustang with a tune.

Could’ve took a fraction of the extra 30k+\- what the mustang cost and made that formula run circles around the GT, and you’d still have a car that not everyone, their uncle, their brother and their aunt has 😂 it is hard to argue with that 10 speed though, it makes perfect use of that coyote engine
