I have smaller hands & am having a tough time finding a 7/8 in my area. Could you please tell me which of the baseline/lower end 4/4's run smaller? Thank you so much!! :)

I began renting a cello today and i am in love. I never really loved string instruments (i used to play viola) but for whatever reason, the cello is sooo much better to me. I am starting in my school orchestra in January so, hopefully all goes well. Thank you for your video!

Excellent explanations slow and steady. Easy to follow the demonstrations of the strings. Thanks a lot . YOUR LESSONS are my INSPIRATIONS TO LEARN THIS WONDERFUL MUSICAL INSTRUMENT. I would like to try my hands too on the same.

excellent way to teach. Easy to follow since the instructions given and demonstrated are quite slow. Thanks a lot.

Thank you for your wonderful videos. I’m reacquainting myself with cello playing after not playing for 35 years so they’re VERY helpful.😊 I’m wondering what you have in your f holes and whether you recommend them for everyone.

I bought a ~200usd electric cello, and I absolutely love the sound and feel. Electric versions of these classical instruments have become cheaper, better in build quality, and overall more accessible than ever before.

This really means a lot to me as I am still 13 and I am currently still learning that basics and you make it seem like a basic skill looking at your doing it. This really just motivates me to keep on going on and on till I master it.

Hi Billy. Thank you for your time in making this video to teach vibrato. I'm an adult student and my biggest frustration is not being able to achieve a natural vibrato. I'm studying what you teach in the video. I have a difficulty. I can't get 6 oscillations per beat 50bmp. I can only get 4 oscillations. My question: How can I practice to get to 6 orcilations at 50 bmp?

@@ghostgirlon I got my cello today. My daughter says it’s more melodic and I play it better than viola. But there will always be a viola in my heart.

I will soon start teaching myself cello. I bought a student cello (very affordable one) because I am not sure how serious I am about it. However, my experience with clarinet was that because of the thicker reed, I fed up multiple times. So I know that things like these make huge difference. My question is whether I should get a decent bow so that my experience is better learning. If bow really makes difference, can you recommend an affordable (100-300$) known brand bow ? If not, thank you anyways! My instrument costed around 500$ but I heard from Violin players, bow makes huge difference.

I know it's very old fashioned but the cello sounds so nice I'd think more people would try to learn it just for fun.

Do you try to hit the middle of the pencil line with the middle of the tape? or tape the edge to the line? I hope that question makes sense. Thanks! And I'm 58 and am beginning my adventure with the cello! Thank you for focusing on the adult students . . .

When I try this bow hold I feel like my fingers are constantly slipping down the bow towards the hair, unless I lock my thumb, which causes a lot of pain with continuous playing. Is there a trick anyone can recommend to 1. Stop the habit of locking, or 2. Stop the sliding?

From what I've seen and heard there is also a lot of "classical mentality" going on when it comes to string instruments. Which is natural I guess :D but as an electrical guitarist and drummer I have a totally different perspective and approach. The most important thing for me is having a challenging piece that sounds AWESOME and makes you want to play and keep going until you nail it. Then you suddenly want to work on your technique all day to make that one part sound like it should. Where in classical teaching you often work on technique for a year without context and have some boring etudes. A fine approach but I'm a rocker and blueser, things need to sound good right away or it's no fun.

my secret is to numb the feeling of imperfect sound, just not being so sensitive which can be difficult for a musician character

When i looked at your vibrato live, your knuckle didnt bend.
@paulgronquistАй бұрын
Cello vibrato. Shoulder initiates the motion of the arm. The wrist is like a cars suspension. Reacts to the motion applied. Proper finger alignment at 45 degrees will keep the note in tune. Tennis ball approach encourages elbow vubrato. Intonation goes sharp. Good luck.
