How important is it to set the shift cable length with it in neutral? I bought an unfinished project off a guy. 2004 Sierra with th400 swap. Originally I couldn’t get it to engagePark. I set the cable length by using park on both the trans and shifter, but now, I don’t seem to have a neutral position on the shifter that give me neutral on the trans. Could setting my cable ship in park be the issue? (Just happened earlier today, so I haven’t tried resetting the cable length yet). Thanks to anyone that can provide any info on that. Great vid too!
@ThrottleStopRacing7 күн бұрын
I would think that it was very important. If the shift cable shifter and trans lever all be in park and your cable length set that way, the other end of the range (first or third) could be out of range???

Thanks for the information. It wasn't the solution for mine, but it helped troubleshoot it. My unit would light but would then shut off after a bit of time. Indicating a thermocouple. Checked voltage when unit was lit, only got .009 to ,011 volts (or 9 millivolts) from the thermocouple. Just for giggles I also let a long Bic lighter under the thermocouple, the voltage went to 25mv. Checked thermocouple mounting, it was loose, apparently allowed the Thermocouple to slide away from the flame. Adjusted and locked down. All is fine. btw my unit is a Dometic RM2807 in a 1995 Southwind.

Optima batteries require an optima charger, but they don't tell you that because they cost $400. I have lost a few of their batteries because of this, but the 1000cca battery is $400 so I just spent the money and their charger is fast and made for their batteries, plus it's lighter and safer with the charger sitting in the trailer. We also prefer the yellow top battery for rapid discharge and charging just some things I have learned the hard way, as hard as it is to justify $800 for a battery and charger it's still cheaper than buying them twice. No at all knocking your set up just hope to help anyone watching because a dead battery at the track is no fun after all the hard work.
@ThrottleStopRacing27 күн бұрын
@@ronosga4391 The charger says on it front cover AGM .I called and talked to their tech line and they agreed this would be a good setup for what I intended.

What fun !!! I've been putting radiator petcocks in those lower block coolant holes for decades with no problems. A bonus is when draining, you can stick a length of hose on to direct the stream into your catch bucket and not get coolant armpits.
@ThrottleStopRacingАй бұрын
That is a good idea. I hesitate to do that because I would not like to wet down the track because of a failed petcock. Tightening a plug with a wrench just seems more finial. Thanks for the comment.

@@ThrottleStopRacing I understand your reasoning but have you ever seen one fail? I had the same thoughts back in 1978 when I started doing it. The only probtem I've encountered is the little wings breaking loose before the seal does and even then, you are back to a plug.
