I lived in Kinver and went to King Edwards college 1983 to 1985. I remember the punk- and going to Boots to buy my goth eyeliner.I spotted my friend Sarah Hill with the bob hair 29 seconds in. Seems another lifetime ago- simpler ,happier times.

I had not realised that the Ring Road from Birmingham Street to Worcester Street was only 2 lanes (not 3) in 1969.

I watched this through a few times, looking for anyone I knew when I went to Stourbridge College, aka Foley College, between '81 and '83. I didn't recognize any of the younger people who might have been students, so maybe this was later in the 80s. Some of them appeared uncomfortable when they noticed the camera pointing at them!

Stourbridge boy born and bred here. I was born in 1993 so this was a bit before my time. I've seen old videos and photos of how lovely the town centre looked. I hate the one way traffic of the high street where it gets congested and the ring road is a pain to get on and off during busy times. Now in the 2020s it's so dull and unlively, there is no place worth going to and there is barely anything to do. I think when the ring road was built it made everywhere else around the high street more chaotic.

Thank you Colin, it is incredibly fascinating seeing the ring road being built but also heartbreaking seeing so many buildings demolished. I'm aware there were a lot of run-down properties around Hemplands, Queens Road, etc. This is a fuller version of the video I have but I notice there's a chunk missing at the end, and I'm sure there's a longer version still. I have an old 1950s map of Stourbridge. Presumably all plans, etc. are in the Archives?
