I absolutely love this man. Mr Baylor sent kids from the Projects to summer sport camp for a week, free of charge. This is when I failed in love with the game of basketball! Also, I played against his son Alan, everyday at Fairfax High!, great times!

Aesthetics. People enjoy guard play more than interior play. Even though Center is actually the most important position in basketball especially on defense.

Your dishonesty is point on. You read the response and it didn’t sit well in your brain. Thus, your emotional and intellectual stability are questionable at best. Grew up watching Elgin on TV in LA. During a game at MSG in NY, toward the end of his career, Elgin drove the basket, spun, hung in the air as he was able to do, and just missed the shot as he was fouled. Fans gave him a standing ovation - for a missed shot. I went to the park later, and kids were trying to emulate his shot on the court.

There's a level of fairness that has to be applied. When Russell came in 1956, there were only 8 NBA teams and at that point the league was hesitant to draft black players. Yes there were a few but it took awhile with NBA expansion before things really balanced out in the way they should when it came to allowing more athletes who were able to have a chance to perform. The great part for the Celtics was that in 1956 Red Auerbach the coach and GM was drafting the best players regardless of color . With these practices in place Russell's Celtics basically walked to their first 5 championships. The competitive balance of the NBA was so off that one team doing things the right way morally, ethically and otherwise could dominate. If Russell came to the Celtics in the 1980's with an expanded league that features Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Jabbar, Moses Malone, Michael Jordan, Isaiah Thomas, Karl Malone, John Stockton and Bill Walton, he is not winning 11 championships in 13 years. Jordan did what he did against all comers where the great players were spread around. There were enough teams to allow for a number of great players to work and show what they could do. This is why Michael Jordan deserves his status as the greatest. Bill Russell was extraordinary but a level of intellectual honesty and basic fairness has to be applied. Most don't want to do this kind of analysis but no matter what anyone thinks the NBA of 1956 was what it was and that's not an opinion. Anyone who takes a look can see this for themselves.

@theuniversegalaxynba What was written is fact that's why all you can do is come with ridicule. You should be ashamed of yourself in not acknowledging what 1956 America was and how that affected everything. Red Auerbach was brilliant. He was so brave and wise. Russell and Auerbach were a great team. You claim to be some kind of a spokesperson for a time, and a reality that for many reasons you'll never be able to connect to. I sighted historical facts. Your lack of understanding regarding what the black athlete had to deal with is comical. And then to not easily recognize the difference when the league became what it was shows a tremendous lacking on your part. You really are embarrassing yourself.

totally agree with his last point you can't compare by position which is why I loathe to rank players all time together. I can rank them by what position they play but comparing Jordan to Kareem? They play totally different positions. Agree with both Rick Barry and Pistol Pete on you can't compare players of different positions.

The Bulls lost 3 consecutive times to the Pistons in the playoffs. If you listen to a Jordan fan the 3 series losses were because the Pistons were "too rough on Mike!" and because "Pippen had a migraine!" Then when the Bulls won the 4th try it was because "Jordan swept them!" Yet a simple search shows that on the 4th matchup Thomas had an injured wrist, and the Pistons no longer had these players: Adrian Dantley Darryl Dawkins Rick Mahorn
