I think the reason Cat brought up her ex boyfriends in front of Dog was for the author to explain Cat has never had a guy/romantic partner treat her this kindly.

You're forgetting the new character, the Bat. Onion Ring. He is a fanboy of the chaos demi god. Sorry but you're saying they dropped the chaos plotline. It seems dishonest saying that, when the Bat is invested in the plotline.

The Film Theory/Game theory, channel made 2-4 theory videos about the underlying plot. Although I stumbled across this series halfway through and binged it. So honestly the shift from "silly" to "heavy plotline" kind of reminds me of "My Little Pony, Friendship is magic." That show had 22-30min for build up. Silly to God of Chaos, being a threat to a friend. I think, is the blessing and curse of the Short format. Shorts are great for "slice of life", the slow burn plots, are hard in random viewing. Reminds me of watching Tv before the internet. Watching all the episodes out of order. Missing plotpoints. Edited to add: They didn't drop the "drama". The new character Oinionring Bat is a fanboy of chaos demi god.

My personal stance on it is that, I think that Chikn's demigod side is really cool and relatable because, suffering from loneliness sucks and I personally related to it as someone who has little to no friends irl or not very closer friendships growing up. His 'demigod' side during the arc to me is a potential metaphor for your mind driving you insane and misanthropic as what my mindset exactly went through in a shitty state if one thing in a friendship becomes a killjoy. This is literally how it feels. My only problem with it is that, yes it felt rushed and his redemption with Chee could have been worked on a little more, like how they added a collection of all their past memories in "It'll Be Ok" was just kinda like.....nah?? it could've been tweaked a little bit more??

dude, i was watching them when they had 23.k followers. i unsubbed to them when they released obvious tumblr sexyman bait, alongside a ton of meta humor about said bait aswell as other things, and started making it a spooooky lore thing. the characters have been ruined for me and i no longer engage with anything chikn nugget related. i just wanted some cute shorts, not a crazy plot twist arg story.

honestly it just feels like shows aren't allowed to just be cute or lighthearted anymore without there being a hidden dark side or tons of lore. one thing that also rubbed me the wrong way abt the new demigod plot wasnt just the huge tonal shift, but also that cheezburger was treated as being in the wrong for making chikn nuggit feel abandoned, which sure he wasn't wrong to feel left out now that chee had a girlfriend, but the show itself and the people who watched the show acted like chee was a terrible friend for not wanting to spend 100% of her time with chikn even though he never told her anything was wrong. it's not like she was purposefully neglecting him to hang out with cofi, it's just sometimes she wanted time with just her and cofi, and she should be allowed to do that! the demigod thing was already weird enough, but the fact that it was all because he felt chee wasn't paying enough attention to him, and now even that everything is meant to be "all better" it's kind of off putting because you wonder if chikn will try to destroy everything again just because he felt left out and refused to communicate.

its so annoying because I had been following the comics from the beginning. I was rooting for a hyena x bird plotline, I was so upset by the direction of the plot once that wizard got involved. I was so surprised that someone made a video about this, especially a youtuber I'm familiar with- although most of the small audience of the comics share the same views on this. since the interdimensional storyline was introduced I completely stopped following because it was just such a badly written twist.

Now, speaking as a fan of this show, I have to concede that this arc was a smoldering mess for *so* many reasons. 1. Why even do this? This may sound rant-y, but this entire arc and how it was executed felt so alien to the show's overall genre. I just wanna see these cute gay animals get into funny and sometimes questionable hijinks. Why did they take this route? And I have to reiterate that I'm not against this trope as a whole; shows like Gravity Falls (this entire thing reminds me of a poor man's Weirdmageddon), Amphibia, heck, even The Owl House start off as fairly lighthearted comedies, only to gradually introduce a darker tone as they go along, and they execute it really well. With this on the other hand, it feels like they tried to copy what those shows did, but didn't understand why it worked in their cases. And that brings me to my next issue... 2. The buildup. It's clear from the beginning of the series that Chikn, on some level or another, possessed strange powers (ex. the short where he nonchalantly teleports himself and Chee to space). However, why those instances worked was because, befitting the series' goofy, comedic tone, these were originally intended to be nothing more than throwaway gags that you'd laugh off as soon as they ended. To retroactively imply that these silly little stunts performed by a silly little goober were actually indications of his status as a *demigod* is, uh...it's certainly a choice. 3. The characterizations. Jeebus tap-dancing Christ, if you had a guidebook to completely soil the likability of your characters, then this would be it. Fwench Fwy just grabs the idiot ball like their life depends on it, completely forgetting to check on Chikn to make sure malevolent thoughts aren't inspired within him *even though it was their literal job.* Chee obliviously ghosts her best friend, causing a domino effect that results in him discovering his true nature. Sody's just annoyingly bratty (and not in a charming, comical way like he usually is, he's just a stubborn jerk to Chikn in the purest way imaginable) in a way that feels completely out-of-character; I get why he'd feel conflicted upon discovering that pretty much all of his unusual abilities weren't his own doing, but the way he verbally tears into Chikn makes it impossible to sympathize with him. Chikn...okay, he's probably the most sympathetic person here, but his overreaction to Chee and Cofi's relationship gives off entitled incel vibes, not gonna lie. And Bezel... *oh my lord, I will get to you.* The other three (Iscream, Slushi and Cofi) thankfully haven't been derailed into idiotic douchebags, but they hardly get anything to say or do. All of it makes the storyline go from poorly-executed and illogical to downright miserable, and it just makes you want to watch other Chikn Nuggit shorts rather than endure it (ex. the one where Iscream admits that they're into being thwarted by Fwench Fwy and Cofi, which caused me to make a headcanon about the three being in some sort of relationship). 4. Bezel. This clock man puts me into an indescribable state of fury every time he opens his nonexistent mouth, and his very presence is arguably the one thing that pushes this arc beyond the point of being salvageable. Over the course of the arc, Bezel tears apart a great friendship, psychologically torments Chikn into unlocking his powers, and nearly causes reality to be irreversibly annihilated. And despite committing such horrific acts, all he gets from it is a slap on the wrist that Chikn reverses at the end of the storyline, apologizes to him for, *and forms a truce with him after said fact, thereby giving him a second chance.* Besides the obvious reaction of "WHAT IN THE LIVING HELL IS THAT FUMBLE ABOUT?", it's just a really incompetent attempt at "redeeming" him without actually doing so (if his tone in the short where he decides to stick around). Actually *good* attempts at redeeming previously immoral characters can be found in the form of Iscream and Hawt Saus. Both started off as comically abusive jerks who get their kicks out of screwing others over. As time progressed however, not only did they slowly change for the better (Iscream because of the positive influence of their friends, yes, even the trolling sheep, Hawt because Sody told him point-blank that no one likes him), but they also did so in a manner that felt believable and engaging simply because they never ventured into becoming actually irredeemable unless the writers pull an ass-pull out of their magic hat (yeah, Iscream is a psychotic demon who has done a lot of degenerate stuff, but even they draw the line at actual omnicide). Bezel, meanwhile, crosses that line tenfold, but *he* gets a fresh start while Chee gets hounded on for causing everything (not to say she's entirely blameless, but still). That's just *bad writing.* Again, I love this show and its characters to death, but...goodness gracious.

Sup. I agree with this comment. While I do enjoy the whole “initially light hearted but get serious as the series goes on” formula that’s seen in some of my favorite works (Ex. Mega Man and Kinnikuman), I gotta say that they did an alright job with building it up, but man, the whole arc fell off. I get why Chee spent more time with Cofi, since it was her first relationship and people often make some mistakes like that, so she’s completely innocent there. The issue, to me, was that there was no sense that Chikn’s Demi-God form was “dangerous”. Yeah, he did turn Bezel into a bear and put Chee into a false-dream like reality, a la White Snake, but all his abilities just boiled down to his regular reality warping abilities, which Chee also has, and Bezel can change forms much like Fwench Fwy (I think). I get that they’re shorts and they don’t have enough time to explain stuff, but it didn’t work for this format. To make a corrupted/beserker/evil form of a good character, you need to add a sense of danger. Ryu from Street Fighter has an excellent example of this trope, with Evil Ryu. Base Ryu can use Ki blasts and has some superhuman feats, but Evil Ryu is more of a murderous version of him, where he instead uses his fighting skills to kill off his opponent. Thats how you make an evil variant; take the regular character’s base powers and make them even more lethal and dangerous. The fact that they pulled a “Family Guy” and swept this under the rug immediately afterwards rubs the salt in the wound that the arc gave off.

people in the comments always argue that the wizard was foreshadowed and that its on us for not seeing this tonal shift coming, but the wizard does not appear until CHAPTER 41. there was also no previous establishment that anything surreal or magical was possible in this universe, so of course the wizard plot being serious and dire seems like it was coming from left field. it was foreshadowed really poorly. eggbug says the wizard arc was planned from the beginning, but the execution has just been bad.

I do enjoy the Chikin Nuggit series. I love the characters and humor that comes along with it. However, the Demi god story was interesting at first, but it almost got boring. You do make a really good point about Chikin should’ve told Chee how he was feeling instead going chaos and almost destroying the world. I’m curious to what they’re going to do with the new character Onion Ring.

I like the arc idea because it brings some levity but also gives Bird and Dog a chance to kind of get to know one another while they get the Cat. Plus, it will allow for Cat to get some perspective depending on how her interactions with the wizard go after him explaining his favorite game plot. We also get to have more of an idea on how the world of the comic is.

I've read the full comic just yesterday and can't stop thinking about how they fumbled it si bad. The Wizard arc wasn't even unplaned, there were some episodes dedicated to sightings of the Wizard, that makes it worse because honestly, they had time to at least make it interesting, but he only exists to interrupt the story in a moment of emotional intrigue. The way the characters are writen in the Wizard arc just erases all the things that made it interesting, Dog and Bird just exist without something interesting or introspective about the characters like we got in previous episodes. Cat is just... There, becoming a damissel in distress victim of a videogame ranting (wich i think she would be used to already with dog's videogame rants). To this point, is a completly different with much more plain characters and a boring plotline that just takes longer in advancing said plot.

You missed another aspect of the narrative that both contributed to the Demigod arc: Bezel's place in the plot. I'm not here to defend the narrative, as I was disappointed by it, too. I'm just here to fill in some gaps. He was not just antagonizing Chikn. He revealed just as the Demigod arc began that he was responsible for everything, fulfilling his role as the Doomsday Clock. Yes, Chikn ultimately gave up on trying to explain himself and took his grief out on the world, but it wouldn't have happened if not for Bezel. If it had purely been his grief and Bezel had nothing to do with it, he probably would have dealt with it inappropriately and cruelly. His final interaction with Slushi is evidence of this. But he wouldn't have brought about the apocalypse, I don't think. It was Bezel who put the ideas in his head. He brought up how often the shorts take place in a single-colored void, leading Chikn to question his very existence in the universe and the Fourth Wall. He began to haunt Chikn's nightmares to unlock the epicenter of Chikn's memories of being the prophesied demigod. And by the end, it was Bezel who influenced Chikn to use his powers to start manipulating people, through his own subconscious manipulation. Oh yeah, and him taking the form of a Tumblr sexyman to distract Slushi didn't help. Chikn realistically could have confided with his friends, as fan animations also pointed towards, but all it took was the Chee apology for Chikn to come to his senses. And Bezel? He did get some form of punishment, but despite very much being the right-hand man to the apocalypse, he's forgiven and allowed to stay. A lot of this felt like a ploy for the series to get mainstream attention, regardless of its intended thematic meaning to the series, and none of it was going to amount to any serious change to the status quo. Of course we got this new Onyn Ring character, but as of yet he hasn't amounted to much.

Didn't think someone will make a video about this, reeeeeeeeeeeeally needed I don't even think it was to develop Dog and Bird together, it seems more like a random artistic decision that interferes with the basis of the plot. In "I Think I Like You" they did something similar, but from the beginning it was made clear that it was a D&D game from the beginning, no joke, they even added the death and resurrection of a main character without it feeling forced into the story . And, although someone already said it, it's basically the same thing that happened to Chickin Nuggit, only more obvious and less ignorable; since now we can't stop thinking about how meaningless it was to give a Lovecraftian religious explanation to a silly story about random nonsense. And I don't think they can fix it over time, it shows that this is going to take a year to finish developing; And is it uncomfortable to watch a plot without... the meaning it had at the beginning? you end up moving to something more like MeowLove with Mumu and Mimi if I'm honest (and I hate to say it)

What I like about cat not reciprocating bird’s feelings is that this is something we do not see in media often: Rejection. Often when a character has a crush on another one, it’s almost always teased that they will reciprocate or that they must reciprocate the feelings, regardless if it’s immediately or eventually. It’s refreshing to see someone having to deal with that kind of rejection. Yes, it hurts. Yes, it’s not supposed to be happy and definitely the resolution to that isn’t immediate but it takes time. It’s realistic and honestly seeing characters in media dealing with this is refreshing.
