Final Detroit goal....the Chicago defenseman does a flamingo and screens Tony-0 This was probably the worst era of defenseless hockey due to expansion and depleted talent pools of players. As money entered the game, more players internationally came on board resulting in increased speed/skill. The days of 200+pt/season will not be seen again, just due to goalies and defenseman skill. It was a fun era to watch hockey.

Love Behn and Dennis Savvy Savard most exciting player of all time. Miss those 80's team and should have had a cup if we had better goalie we were up 2 to 1 against oilers and had chance at the stadium to go 3 to 1 and millen let soft... goals get by him. Wanted Savvy get the cup with hawks.

Habs defence was beginning to become horrible around this time and they stopped being a dynasty, perennial contender. Defence sucked, Breezer was their young D star, which says it all. Having said that, they still won in 93 because Roy was great. One reason Roy wanted out in that 11-1 rout a few years later though was the team had relied on old players. Also, Raccicot was one of the last stand-up goalie styles, and you see why.

I am a long standing Hawk fan. My first game was 1959. I was 7. Hawks vs Wings! I saw Gordie Howe elbow one of the Hawks. A skirmish followed.. I was hooked. I was lucky enough to have a younger brother who played hockey. We travelled all over Canada also. I became enthralled with all aspects of the game. Even as a 73 year old Grandmother I love hockey...

You mean there was a time when the arena clock was show on screen instead of a offending score bug? And when there were actual advertisements on the boards?

That was a busy day for sports fans in Toronto. The Ottawa Rough Riders beat the Calgary Stampeders 24-21 in the Grey Cup at CNE Stadium that afternoon, with both games televised on CBC.

Bob Barlow was a veteran of more than a decade in the minor leagues before making his NHL debut in the 1969-70 season with the North Stars at the age of 34, setting an NHL record for the oldest rookie until Connie Madigan played with the Blues in 1972-73 at the age of 38.
