You're going to regret covering up your electric panel.

I made a panel over it that was totally and instantly removable, which I have done many times already. Check out my full length build video to see how I did it.

Very nice, how much did it cost you, all together?
@RockOnDadАй бұрын
Thanks! I've probably sunk $500 into wood and hardware and $1,500 into holds, but if you're just starting you can get enough wood and holds for a decent wall for about $500. I'd say that's the intro cost for something worth climbing.

What a great video!! I would like to ask your recommendation of a small set for just my feet on either side of an outdoor pull up station. I can't quite reach the bar and I would like to install 3-4 for getting me up there without a stool!
@RockOnDad3 ай бұрын
Hello! Thanks for the kind comment! For what you’d like to do, I highly recommend the Rocky Mountain Climbing holds from the video (the ones made from recycled concrete). They’re only about $2 per hold, can be purchased individually I believe (so you don’t need to buy like 20 when you just need 4) and they’re big enough to use with tennis shoes on (Instead of climbing shoes). Also, they sell them in bolt and screw on style, so unless you already have t-nuts installed on your pull up wall, the screw on ones can be installed super easy. Happy climbing! (And pull upping!)

Would mixing the sand into the primer not have worked?
@RockOnDad4 ай бұрын
No not really. It would be hard to get the right consistency and I would wager I'd be likely to use too much. You'd likely ruin any brushes used (and rollers too if you like to rinse them out, but I typically throw those away after use), and any leftover primer would be ruined. But all that said, I haven't tried mixing it in. If you do and find it successful, let me know!
@zomb1ecube4 ай бұрын
@RockOnDad I think I'd dispense small measured amounts of paint out and mix with the same amount of sand each time, knowing I'd throw away the brushes and rollers. That being said, I chose not to texture my wall. I like that my shoes last longer, and I don't graze myself on the wall itself (just the plastic holds).

I’m concerned about your attic after the changes. The new system doesn’t seem equivalent to the first. It certainly isn’t as stiff.
@RockOnDad5 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your concern, but it’s perfectly stiff, I can assure you. I had a professional engineer friend do the tension and load bearing calculations on his software. He literally built his own house with some massive open spaces, so he knows supports! And then adding 3/4” plywood to the neighboring trusses (the climbing wall itself) only reinforced it all and removed any sheer concerns.
@B0A26 ай бұрын
Would also love links to the t-nuts and drill bit. If you use affiliate links you might get paid from it as well!
@B0A26 ай бұрын
Does it matter what type of plywood you use? Or just whatever is cheap?
@RockOnDad5 ай бұрын
I used high quality plywood, 3/4 thick. I’d be afraid that t-nuts would rip through Particle board, plus the splinter factor (pre painting) would go up. Definitely don’t want 1/2 ply unless you plan to put supports like every 12 inches.

Love the tips about the sand on the wall! Hoping to build out a home gym soon! I’m actually 3D printing some holds right now. I’d be down to send you some to test if you’re interested it’s a really interesting process.

Be careful with blocking electrical panels and breaker boxes. There are requirements in the electrical code on having those accessible and can be a fire risk
@RockOnDad11 ай бұрын
Thanks Emily, as the video tried to show, my electrical panel is always fully accessible. The panel pops off upward very easily. I’ve taken it off quickly over a dozen times. That’s why I likes and showcased the design 👍

I would recommend always turning off all the breakers when you are screwing into the wall. you checked where the wires are, but better safe then sorry

It hurts to watch some holds get tossed aside and labeled as "foot jibs" or "terrible for hands", when they were actually some of the best crimps/mini pinches showcased on your lineup. I think if you make a video about climbing holds, the two major demographics you'd land on are: competent climbers who are motivated enough to build an off-season woody, or parents building jugfests for their children. I blame myself for not reading the channel name before watching.
@RockOnDad11 ай бұрын
Hey I appreciate the feedback. I’m an average climber myself. And my home walls have all had at least 10 degrees of reverse incline or more, so unless they’re quite positive jibs, I can’t hold them. If I had straight up walls I bet they’d be better for me. Expert climbers will like jibs I bet. To each they’re own. Thanks!

LOL. Perhaps! We are moving soon and are planning to rent at our new location. I've shared my desire to build a wall in his garage and asked for permission, and he has said that is just fine. My very first home wall back in 2011 was also built in the garage of a rented duplex. That was a 10' tall by 20' long wall! So those who rent may be able to do something with permission.

Hey! That's an Awesome video; I've been planning on doing that in my house also, my only concern is the height available in my case might limit the possibilities. Yours looks great! just a heads up, the audio could be normalized; the music is much louder than your voice. Greetings from Brazil!
@RockOnDad Жыл бұрын
Thank you Artur! I hope you build something, they're very fun. One thing I didn't mention at the end of the video, if you build an overhang / roof section, it actually increases the climbing distance. A 4 foot tall section that's on a 45 degree slope is actually 5.66 feet of climbing, so you can turn an 8 foot tall space into almost a 10 foot climb if half of it is an overhang. :) And thank you for the tip on the music, I'll be sure to improve that in future videos.
