After owning 3 offroad tacomas, got a frontier pro4x. Seating position, throttle response, and transmission shifting along with overall comfort is a world of improvement over any tacoma. Reliability and resale value is higher than a new gen tacoma. I'll never look back at toyota.

my brother owned a tercel, swore he could run that thing without oil and it wouldn't have issues. Lasted 20 years before the transmission blew up.

I don’t like pure direct injection that results in carbon buildup…I do have a 2017 frontier duel port and a v8 2021 tundra NO TURBO ANYTHING FOR ME..I wish frontier had dual port or Toyota that has mix of both

I had one of these. It is an excellent car. Now yes, they are under powered but they will not quit. I don't even think you can kill it.

I own a 2wd 4Runner as a family hauler. Toyota has ruined the Tacoma with turbocharging and transmission failures. It’s a shame.

One accident and this guy is so cooked that its almost well done.

Mistake was to use fifth gear uphill at 3k rpm driving. The maximum torque rpm on the Tercel is 3800 with very little torque even there, same as on my Supra for that matter but has way more torque. I have 2 turbos that can help push if needed. You should've used 4th gear. Would've saved fuel as well. You were lugging it uphill essentially.

Just need some better tires on the cars it be more grip n feel better too... nice video im getting a tundra.

Other thing to keep in mind is insurance. Toyotas , especially the 4 runner are more then double the money to insure

Just give that Tercel some rock sliders and it'll be ready for ALL of Utah! Top Gear would be proud.

Looks like an awesome trip when with a group of other very capable 4 wheel drive vehicles. I wanted to go here with my 2015 Subaru forester xt... But wasn't trying to get stuck with no phone signal. Plus being so close to the border it had me concerned.

Cool adventure, thanks! Not to be annoying, but having loose cargo like the wheels you have on the back seat is asking for your head to be caved in when doing an emergency stop or when having an accident. Hate to see this happen to you.

Dude! Toyota Fan Boy here...I'm holding out for the 5th Gen Tacoma, 2 cylinder, twin turbo, wind turbine hybrid. Why? The gas mileage will be incredible and rumor is that it will be built at the El Tahara Factory in Mexico!

My daily driver is a 40 year old Volvo 244 GLT, which are equally robust. When well maintained, these cars can run forever. Mine has almost 500k km on the counter - on it's original redblock engine. In the country i live any car that's older than 25 years and is mostly original gets a special registration number plate with very low tax and insurance, no emission testing and no ugly windscreen stickers. The tax is the same for all older vehicles. Even if it's a luxury mercedes or a lorry. Msy wife and i own a 1992 camper unimog. Same tax as the Volvo 240.

I had a 1988 Honda wagon, these vehicles are notoriously reliable,keep the car for road trips and enjoy your life with that 1985 Toyota.

Had a Wildernest on my Tacoma for many years. I eventually sold it. Bed is comfy and you dont need a ladder on the outside to get in. Only downfall is the camper is very heavy and was not good on my old 89 Tacoma going up hills. Other thing is they are a bit scary sleeping on a very windy night. I would park my camper next to all these huge motorhomes and everybody is always looking at the Wildernest. I had a carpet kit in mine.

the michelin cross Climate 2 is a better tire, better stopping, better performance in deep snow and mud.
