Genuinely the worst film I think I’ve ever watched. The trailer makes it seem like it’s an action romance film but it twists in the second and third act into a slog fest where one bad thing after another happens to the characters in a series of events that were so laughably unlucky that watching it is the closest experience I’ve ever had to being high and I’ve never smoked. The way the movies sets up an interesting romance and dynamic and then proceeds to shit on it with the kind of precise chaotic vehemence can only be done so by the sheer incompetence of some sort of crazed madman. I watched the movie nearly 6 months ago and it still haunts me to this day.

So people are quick to think trump was assisted by Russia (which btw he hates commies just as much as they hate us) but when biden comes into question nobody bats an eye when the country is in the worst state its ever been? I don't understand this concept of glorifying people like the unabomber. Would you glorify a school shooter? Sure it makes for an edgy movie but are you really sendin out the right mesage? Violence is NEVER the answer. the entitlement, ego and dellusional madness of a character like unabomber is grand... so companies are cutting down trees... and you don't like that ... so your idea of a protest is to target strangers in the city to injure or kill them? how does that solve anything? the worst part is that people will glorify such a character afterwards and people will comment below things like " i love this character, he is literally me".. well that is deeply concerning

Easily one of the most amazing docs ive seen in years. The filmmakers did an absolutely incredible job keeping to the themes of sight and perception and bias, how the tools we use to record can lead to further bias, how much we take for granted every day when it comes to how we experience the world. Deacon's score was incredible and helps you flow through this (relatively) loosely structured piece mixed with beautiful imagery and an entrancing VO narrator. Might even watch it again this weekend. Recording light is still so new to us as a species and with AI and deepfakes, the trust we had in the recorded image is about to explode into a billion pieces and I don't think anyone is really ready for that yet.

Sometimes the "crazy" are actually the sanest...at least in some respects. But he's only one guy. One person is not intelligent enough, nor prescient enough, to make predictions as accurately as he proclaimed. The world is too complex, and societies are too complex. However, I generally agree with much of what he professed and prophesied. I don't own a "smart" phone for what are obvious reasons to me. Yet, people often give me grief for using a flip phone. I tell them, "if you want to be part of the matrix, that's on you. I have chosen the red pill".....or something like that. I'm only one guy. What the hell do I know? But I am deeply concerned about much of what society is becoming. Tech has become the new god. It's enough to make me consider moving to very rural America and living free of this matrix. But I won't be making any bombs. I'll just make stuff for my cabin, hunt game, and masturbate a lot.....a lot! Hey, I gotta have an outlet, I tell ya. One can only play solitaire so many times before becoming bored. And no ladies are likely to join me. So..........a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. It's better than making bombs. DON"T JUDGE ME, MAN! Now where is that map of the US and Canada? I need to find a remote place to build my cabin. Oh hell, I'll use google-maps. Oh no. I"m in the matrix!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn’t have Polish relatives, but any of these faces look like they could be family. My father was at the death camps. Whenever I see those films I look for him. The freedom of information act allowed us to see his military record. It was unbelievable because he never wanted to discuss the war. This film, all three minutes of it is a jewel of proof. The way it was lengthened is a masterful piece of art. No plaque, no memorial, it’s time. May their memories be a blessing.

Just saw "Saint Omer" today at Lincoln Center. Excellent writing and direction by Alice Diop. This film is short-listed for Oscar consideration. No fancy camera moves or special effects, just narrative filmmaking at its best. The majority of the women in the audience were weeping. When a film can touch the audience like this, it is a remarkable achievement and accomplishment. This has Oscar written all over it. I think it’s the best film nationally and internationally I’ve seen in many years. France should be honored that the first African woman director (France’s submission for the Best International Feature Film Oscar) came out swinging with this unforgettable film. Based on a true story. [French with English subtitles]

Kurosawa repeats the concept of losing the conscience, the possession of soul and mind, the lack of humanity that we could see in his Cure, Kairo or Creepy, but instead of psycopaths or ghosts he uses aliens instead, so doing his personal Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The worst thing is we discover very soon the intentions of the plot (I mean, after 15 minutes, a character reveals it), and Kiyoshi Kurosawa always has been very careful about tell us too much on his movies...
