This area behind the city is extremely rugged to retard its urban expansion....it's going to be interesting to see how quickly the isolated areas around sections of the perimeter road develops....

Irwin....not Irvin....and the road runs from Ironshore to Fairview/Montego Freeport...the perimeter road bypasses the DOWNTOWN area and not the town (which spreads around some parts of the bypass). Since you're in this area you could fly your drone over the Western Jamaica Children's hospital....

Do not replace, build alternate bridge but higher and leave flat bridge as a backup or for local traffic.

This needs to be verified, but I have heard that prior attempts to build another bridge failed. My suggestions: 1. Build a two lane frame using the existing bridge as the base or foundation. Place the frame on top of the existing bridge and fill it with concrete (3 ft thick). Raise the road on both sides and pave over. Or 2. (And this is preferred because it would make the bridge passable even if the water rose to 15 ft high) Build a new structure starting a quarter of a mile on either side and avoid the 90° angle turn by keeping that new bridge straight. This new structure could be a suspension bridge or one built on arches. The investment in one or the other of the suggested construction would preserve the scenic view and the historical significance of Flat Bridge.

I genuinely don't understand why build a non toll road to Montego Bay which will cost $124 billion and at the same time build what seems to be a parallel road to Trelawney ( we don't know where in Trelawney)which would be a toll road. We don't know the cost of this road as yet. It could even be more than the $124 billion since it is a totally new alignment. If you could, please explain the logic of these duplicating roads. These planned roads are duplicating each other for a great distance.( Mammee bay to Trelawney).

@Jamaicain5 The reason they need to duplicate the road because if you don't have alternatives routes for the people to travel on, it would be illegal or against to the laws for the government not having a different route to use

Flat bridge should remain and should not be torn down. It is a part of Jamaica’s history. They should build another bridge with an off-ramp where tourists can stop and tour and walk on the bridge and take part in experiencing the “true history of Jamaica” as part of our cultural heritage. With tour busses stopped and paying a small token, the fees can be utilized for bridge maintenance.

An alternative solution is to significantly reduce the toll rate or make it free between Angels and Bog Walk whenever Flat Bridge is closed to traffic.
@Jamaicain5
@Jamaicain5 2 күн бұрын
That is an excellent idea.
@gweir7264
@gweir7264 2 күн бұрын
The problem is not the bridge. It is the height of flood water which can be as much as 18 feet above the bridge. The solution is re-aligning the road to place it about 20 feet higher. A new bridge could be built at say 25 feet above the dam below the current bridge and a new road could then take the eastern hillside and continue along it about 20 feet above the existing road to the right of Kent Village to Bog Walk. The cost, however, would be humongous. It would be a waste of time to build a new bridge. The cost of using the toll road for the 15 days the flat bridge is closed per year is likely to be much less than the cost of a new road and bridge.

you shouldnt have to turn 90% at the bridge. A new (hump) bridge should be built that would continue straight across the water like the cause way bridge. Also, i would widen the gorge along the dam road as two vehicles can barely pass at some points.
@yourstruly5430
@yourstruly5430 3 күн бұрын
The bridge asis is not the problem, it's bad drivers and big heavy trucks that are too long or too wide for that small bridge. Those trucks should be ban from using the bridge, let them pay to use the highway or bring back the train and use it to pull large cargo.
@GI4JESUS
@GI4JESUS 2 күн бұрын
The bridge predates modern infrastructure and as such is extremely outdated but given its place in history it should remain a historic landmark with a long bridge road above at a height that makes the Bog Walk Gorge viable during heavy rain when the river overflows its banks. A bridge similar to the bridge that carries I-70 in Glenwood Canyon, Colorado which in many parts is built in and over the Colorado River
@yourstruly5430
@yourstruly5430 2 күн бұрын
@GI4JESUS Many slaves died building that bridge, it should be kept asis. Jamaica is a small island we just don't have enough room for all that development compared to the US. Besides, why should we bend over backward to accommodate more traffic on that small roadway when there's a highway available, the car is NOT king.
@ravenswood0621
@ravenswood0621 3 күн бұрын
Build a new bridge and use flat bridge as a pedestrian only sight seeing attraction. Best of both worlds, right? My only question is, do we really want to increase traffic through the gorge that much? Seems like the cure could be worse than the disease. Increasing traffic could result in a lot of pollution and wear and tear that could destroy the natural beauty of the gorge.
