We moved to Rincon de Guayabitos 8 years ago full time. I also notice all the dust up about expat vs immigrant issue. I don’t get the need to have labels. If I feel the need to identify myself it’s just easy to say I am a foreigner with permanent residency. It stops people from connecting me with either expat or immigrant. 😊

Regarding your comments about the weather. Welcome to Southwestern Ontario! The weather is very variable especially in the winter.

Yes it definitely is! We grew up in Newmarket and lived in Toronto for many years! PV has Hot and Hotter!!

I live in Sarnia, ON. Since you lived in Toronto, you probably know where Sarnia is. In 2018, my wife and I flew into Amsterdam to pick up a river cruise on the Rhine. My first time in Europe. We met the tour representative and he told us to go and have a coffee at the coffee shop and he will come get us when other people have arrived. We sat in the coffee shop surrounded by people all of whom were visiting, laughing and gossiping, all in different languages. I said to my wife, “Its like we have never left Toronto!” Toronto has become a very multi-cultural city. Totally get what you are referring to!!
@Morelifediaries7 сағат бұрын
Yes we definitely know Sarnia! I find that it sometimes takes away from the experience of travelling (unless you travel to an english speaking country of course). We have travelled to many countries where they spoke NO english and those were often the best tripsfor us.

This happened to me when I visited Montana in the 90s and returned to California and realized I was living in a shithole. Of course now California is so much worse. People often dont notice this until they see the other side

Yay!! You guys need to leave and give the people back their beautiful towns , before you all "discoved" it, took over, bullied your way around towns , demanded special setvice, complaining about everthing, and over-paying for housing because YOU think YOU deserve to live like a king. So, as they say in Portugal, go home Ugly Americans! 👍

I could rent out my condo in california, quit my job and still afford to live jobless in PV. This has got me thinking.
@Morelifediaries7 сағат бұрын
I find that despite some things being more expensive than Toronto and most likely California, a lot of our big expenses back home and more affordable here, in season food that we eat is less and we generally don't impulse buy.

Can you go to a bank and use your debit card to get pecos? I dont like to have a lot of cash on me st one time.
@Morelifediaries7 сағат бұрын
Yes any bank however I always recommend using your credit card when withdrawing money and paying it back from your bank account. That way you have fraud protection and if anything happens they fraudsters aren't getting access to your cash accounts.

It's important for realtors to be ethical and know their clients wants/needs! It appears this realtor was probably chasing a paycheque vs. finding their clients the perfect place.

Thanks for this video. Puerto Vallarta has a great energy to it and a nice balance of life. I think one of the things I would also want to take into consideration with an apartment there would be flooding risk. I noticed that some areas can flood badly during the rainy season. It might be a good idea to get a place a safe distance from the Río Cuale and maybe on an upper floor.
@Morelifediaries9 күн бұрын
That's a good point however the Rio Cuale is quite a long way down from properties - it would need to be a serious flood and it's probably unlikely.

Expect to never be left alone on the beach. One thinks they are going to the beach to hear the ocean. HA. I hope you like drunken bands and stereo boom box rapp. And they protested in a hundered man march when tourists tried to get the practice outlawed. People work the beaches. One woman says she loves it, the store comes to her. I was sitting trying to nap, a friend in the adjacent chair and a sales person with blankets came up and wiggled my toe to see if I wanted to buy. Don't get mad. They will win. Dont' buy from the beach drug dealers they will follow you and take your money. They are selling cigars, be careful. Don't buy any drugs in mexico. They will turn you in, it's a racket with the police. The idea is to get you back to your place and rob your or take you to the ATM at 11pm then at 12am when your new limit changes.

buen prevechio is what is high class to say when that akward moment you pass by a table when people are eating or taking a bite. It is a high class thing. Con permisso or permisso is what is said when you pass by/inbetween people talking on a sidewalk etc. instead of excuse me, the will respond proprio and make room. It is polite. Con permissio i is like may I pass please. Rather than just boulder on through them.

I think the importance is typing a appropriate % within an appropriate range is most important. Feedback from Mexicans is when people tip 20+% is makes it so they receive bad service as the custom is 10% here

@garybrisky91168 күн бұрын
@@Morelifediaries Because they often do not tip. And cause the entire staff to wait on them like they are the royalty of some nation. I made the mistake of taking canadians to a friends restaurant. One, who I wished had not come, turned to the server and yelled her english at him loud. She turned to us right in front of him and said, you have to do that so they understand. Then turned to him and did it again. The server, a friend of mine just looked at me like WTF? And went on about his duties. I told this person he graduated from UCLA chef school and speaks perfect English. She refused to believe me. It's that type of arrogance that causes the reputation. It is often and often. Another friend when I told her the above joke she began making sure that for a large group there was a minimum of 15% and verbally abused her canadian mates in to 20 or more. Especially if they worked the server crew to death. I still hear her daying, "buckle up butter cup and get out your wallets, that is not enough, and I for one don't want the reputation". Then she told the above joke. Many just got mad. Really that extra dollar for the customer is nothing and the extra dollar from an entire days work mean everything to the server. I was in an east Indian restaurant and my friend the manager was the only one serving tables. He was working his ass off while being polite. I overheard a table of canadians saying they were going to talk the bill down and this was before they had their food. When the time came they tied up my friend and it was disrespectful to others waiting for food etc.. They refused to pay. I walked over and said. I hear you. You ate this food, then complained it was no good when it is considered the best indian restaurant in the area. I heard you. Now pay up in full with a 20% tip of I will call the police. Defrauding an inkeeper in Mexico is jail time just like everywhere else. You think this meal is expensive now, wait until you pay your way out of your jail time. All 4 of you. They paid. My manager friend thankned me and said I didn't know you could do that. I told it is his restaurant, he can do whatever he wants. This is just one of many, taxi cabs, no tipping on guided tours the tip is the only income for the guide. One friend took her guide bus on an entire day outing and they did not tip her one dime. She worked for free that day. People argue tha they should blah blah blah. Do you really think if they could they would no thave already? It is what it is and respect the ways in Mexico. So much of it is lack of common courtesy and respect at least I would give to anyone.

I've been coming to PV every year for the last 30 and it's changed. 1 Even five years ago $1 beers could be had, now the price is much higher. 2 When I interact with locals they are less friendly and sometimes hostile, I blame that on the popularity of PV and too many rude tourist. The cruise ship days make the Malacon a disaster and I avoid being there then, but the proposed hike in port tax may cause ships to avoid PV which could help. I still believe in the hospitality of PV and saw that first hand when I got on the wrong bus and ended up in a area few tourist visit, a non English speaking taxi driver took me back to my resort and the guards were surprised. 3 The resorts have moved upscale and bargains are harder to come by, even the downtown hotels are charging more so it feels like other options may be worth exploring.
@Morelifediaries9 күн бұрын
Thank you for sharing! Our experience is different living here vs. travelling here for short stays - we find people very friendly and helpful and have had not a single negative experience with locals. The prices going up can be said for just about anywhere in the world - especially in the last 5 years so PV is no exception. Cruise ships coming into town is an inconvenience for us foreigners or tourist but they equal a big pay day for all who work around the port and on the Malecon so I doubt that having them not come is a good thing for locals.
