This is the best effective video. thank you! SO many people skip steps thinking they're intuitive but I don't feel anything is intuitive for newbies in this realm. :)

Just got my first violin (used). The strings need replacing so this video was instrumental (no pun intended, lol) in guiding me through this. I have to buy a digital tuner. Does the one you have need to be set to the note you're tuning or do you just turn it on and tune?
@Iveboy32 Жыл бұрын
Its certainly nice to see an instrument given new life through a process like this, but something about an old instrument with some wear and tear is simply beautiful in it's own way. The scuffs add character to the instrument and are almost like a record of it's past. I've had my trumpet for 7 years now, and it was quite old when I got it. I still don't think I could ever get something like this done to it unless it couldn't function anymore. I don't speak for every musician, but I feel that most would say they have an emotional connection with their instrument, one that words simply cannot explain.

I'm not buying any more 2nd hand wind instruments. Dental plaque 🤢 Bought a very old (100-150 yr) Eb clarinet (wood) the stench when I started to play it, same with an old Dolmetch alto recorder. Both had teeth marks on the mouthpieces 🤮 Nothing but new for me now! 🌸🎶

What is the best polish to use for 24k brushed gold plate? I know you're not supposed to apply then rub, but rather apply, then leave on for a bit, then wash/dry. I have a Getzen Genesis that is ALREADY showing tarnish under it's gold plate and it's only 4 years old

These are D'addario Prelude Strings (J90 Fiddle Strings are the same) which are the least expensive. Prelude Strings are Solid Steel Core Nickel Flatwound Strings (w/ Aluminum Wound A) and the E is Unwound it's just a Tinned Carbon Steel Wire so they often include a String protector tube to protect it.

I've replaced the friction pegs on my 5 String Cello with Mechanical ones that also allowed me to get rid of those fine tuners from the tailpiece. The lack of fine tuners on the tailpiece will liven up the sound by allowing the top to vibrate more freely.
@RockStarOscarStern6342 жыл бұрын
I also used a string winder to crank those tuners faster to cut down on time.

Would you have refinished this instrument, or left it with the original lacquer?

On some saxophones I love the worn in original wear but in the case of this one the refinish really made it pop and I like it!

I use either Al Cass or Monster Oil in my shop. Blue Juice creates issues over time, as it's meant to also be a detergent, and isn't only meant to work with monel and stainless steel.

Do you guys do trades?
@WardBrodtMusic4 жыл бұрын
We do accept trade-in's toward the purchase of a new or used instrument! We would need to see the instrument first as we will only make an offer on brands that we are familiar with. We also will deduct any repairs or maintenance your trade-in may need from the trade in amount. Out-right purchase or consignment options are available as well. Thanks for watching!

Hi There, can you simply remove the laminate and then stain and finish the wood? Would this effect the tone?
@WardBrodtMusic5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can strip the drum, remove all glue residue and then finish/stain the drum. If you are playing acoustically you may be able to tell a difference between a wrapped shell and a non wrapped shell. The non wrapped shell hypothetically should be more open as the drum is free to vibrate more. This can be very subjective though.

if you put in your second valve first to double check your first felts and look into the third slide, you'll see the valve if it lining up or not without introducing anything into the horn.
