These are D'addario Prelude Strings (J90 Fiddle Strings are the same) which are the least expensive. Prelude Strings are Solid Steel Core Nickel Flatwound Strings (w/ Aluminum Wound A) and the E is Unwound it's just a Tinned Carbon Steel Wire so they often include a String protector tube to protect it.

I've replaced the friction pegs on my 5 String Cello with Mechanical ones that also allowed me to get rid of those fine tuners from the tailpiece. The lack of fine tuners on the tailpiece will liven up the sound by allowing the top to vibrate more freely.

I also used a string winder to crank those tuners faster to cut down on time.

Just got my first violin (used). The strings need replacing so this video was instrumental (no pun intended, lol) in guiding me through this. I have to buy a digital tuner. Does the one you have need to be set to the note you're tuning or do you just turn it on and tune?
