Should there be 4 chicks? There are only 3 in this Vid.

Little Blue is certainly precocious. Love how he didn't even let mom retrieve the prey. Surprising that the youngest grabs prey from a parent and self-feeds--and that the other two don't try to take it from him. Look forward to what's next from the little bird. (Interesting that the fourth chick completely missed this. You'd think s/he would have been attracted by all the noise!) Thank you for another delightful video!

Still mostly fluffballs--and mantling. Adorable. Also the new sounds--sort of a honking noise. (At one time peregrines were called duck hawks, but I think it had more to do with what they ate.) After this melee, they may decide to let mom and dad feed them because at least they all get fed. On the other hand, survival strategies are kicking in. At least they fought over the scrap until it was small enough to swallow. (I got a bit worried at times that one of them might choke on it rather than share it . . . I'm a person who worries.) And, yes, exhausting just watching it! Thanks for another great video. You capture such wonderful/insightful/humorous moments in the lives of these birds.

I just realized this nest box is looking smaller & smaller by the hour...
@sarahfern71283 сағат бұрын
Last year the smallest was the first to use the strategy of stealing food out of sibs' mouths to get food. This little one was also the first to do that this year. He's also managed to snag a bit of food right off the prey under Annie's feet a few times.

Why does seeing this make me think of a zombie frenzy? I'm down with Monty. I'd make a run for it, too. Yikes!

Ahh, this brings back fond memories of the first falcon nest I watched at the PG&E building in San Francisco. Dad would just drop the prepped prey on the cement area in front of the nest box and one of the chicks would inevitably grab it and run down the long corridor with siblings in hot pursuit. The one in possession of the prey would mantle it, but eventually each chick would get a share. Luckily, pigeons were the bill of fare for the most part. If Gavin sees this video, he may call in sick tomorrow for banding day--lol. Thanks for the hilarity, SKH!

Soledad will be waiting in the wings tomorrow morning. Word has it she still has a bone to pick with Emmons's banding of her last year. Thankfully, Dr. Zeka lucked out.

@@skhideaways What happened with the PG&E nest site? Or is the building itself no longer there?
@6falconsue2 сағат бұрын
@@ishmyl99 If I may, PG&E sold the SF building and moved its headquarters to Oakland. The new owners did not wish to sponsor the nest so the Predatory Bird Research Group removed the nest and the cam.

Where's that sound-proofing defense-shield? At this rate, I'll be half deaf before tomorrow's banding. I think I'm gonna need a sound-bunker...

Good job, Wee Boy Blue! Good life skill practice! It seems these floors changed overnight! Yesterday Wee #4 looked different from his 3 siblings because he had more white floofiness. Such a cute face when he head tilted at the camera!

This is fantastic--these four may be a week younger than their Campanile neighbors but they certainly have a certain extra spice to them that Annie's tight rein keeps a lid on when it comes to the Berkeley chicks😅 And if Monty were human he'd definitely be thinking something along the lines of "Oh, you ALL want food? Should have let me dole out the nice pieces equally then" 😇

Folks, another burning concern: will the tofu-block nest (aerial view @02:00) survive tomorrow's (5/23/24) banding mission? Or will it jiggle, crumble & finally fall under the tsunami of sound that awaits it? ((Shudders))
@ishmyl9915 сағат бұрын
With these four Soledad siblings, I now assess that earplugs won't cut it. An entire sound-proofing force-field, with a radius of six miles (one for each member of this sonar-shattering family), is in order ahead of tomorrow's banding mission (5/23/24). The very health, well-being & sanity of thousands is at stake. Dr. Glucs & Gavin Emmons, I don't envy you your call of duty. You enter the very epicenter at your own peril. May the great Sky Gods be with you. 😉

I think momma is trying to get the other chicks to her feeding station, and Monty to leave, BUT, he’s learned to ignore her now, and just get on with it. He’s doing a great job, bless him. He won’t be able to do this for much longer, as you say,those females will be too big for him to handle. Enjoyed the video, thanks SKH❤

I heard a rumor that the nearby office buildings and hotels are providing ear protection to their employees and patrons. Not sure if double-paned windows could keep the screeeching at bay. I hope that Dr. Zeka and Gavin have football helmets with built-in ear protection for banding day on Thursday! Thanks for the floof feeding frenzy, SKH.

Even though Larry was born and raised in the luxury accommodations of the Campanile, it seems she got the call of the wild when she chose where to raise her kids. Maybe she looked at Alcatraz from her childhood home and dreamed of living there someday. And her kids seem to love it but may end up nesting in a high-rise in San Fran or a mansion in Silicon Valley! (Btw, per Google, San Francisco Bay is an estuary--it has a combination of salt water from the Pacific and freshwater flowing into it from the Delta.) Like Larry, I grew up in a home that had a view of Alcatraz and the 3 bridges but never had the desire to move to Alcatraz someday! Thank you for sharing this fantastic footage, SKH--a special treat to see this falcon family thriving on this notorious island in the Bay.

Annie's grandchicks!!! ❤️❤️Boy, they've really grown in a couple of days since I've seen them (can't save the live cam to my vast nest playlist as the cam is YT Kids, and I don't understand why I can't, so it doesn't spring up in my feed or is easy to run through my playlist. But SK Hideaways does, so ty! ). This is how I think of non-urban falcon nests, on a cliff or rocks, but hopefully a bit more level lol. But they seem to do fine. 4 fine falcon chicks who look just like Annie! Of course lol. And will carry forth the Annie and Grinnell name for generations. Wish I had seen Larry grow up, though! 😢 Did anyone here?

Cal Falcons didn't install web cams will 2019. Larry was born in 2018, so while there may be articles about that clutch out there (I believe there are), I don't know if there's any video. Worth a Google, though!
