Hello Steve. A question from an ignoramus who thought he knows it all! After a little cleaning and lubbing, I finally got the PFAFF varimatic 6091 singing, which took me two days! On the trials, fabric advances without the neddle, but loops and pulls and stops with the needle in place, even with a dual foot in place. The needle, when placed in, looks a little off centre when sighted with the front of the pressure foot, but clears the bottom, even when dialled to large zigzag on the selector. Timing for the hook, bobbin and neddle was done, but not the tensions as these are done by the taylor. I will go on but what will stop me is when I do something stupid and ruin an expensive piece of gear. Help please, PFAFF does not approve or help ignoramuses!

I’d like one machine for heavy AND light duty. Will the Janome work well on lighter stuff like this cotton also?

Janome is a Japenese company and it started in 1921, it bought out an earlier US sewing machine company Newhome, started in the 1800s but has stayed the same since then.

Thank you so much! I’ve worn out TWO Singer heavy duty machines in the past year and couldn’t understand why! I do small quilted projects for a living and sew 5 hours a day, 6 days a week. Looks like I’m going to be looking into investing in a Janome.

Would love to learn how I can replace a broken 'quick clip' buckle on a Maxpedition bag I have -- I already have the replacement clip, I'm just not sure if I've got the right thread/needles/machine to tackle the nylon strap thickness to sew things back up once I replace the buckle. Help!

Wow, what the heck this worked so well... I've been sewing thin silk and thinking that I needed to change the tension or the needle thickness. Thank you so much!

Just watching this in 2024. Thank you so much!!! I realize I am removing my fabric without having the needle ALL the way up! Also, lifting the FOOT as I’m threading it! Wow!!!!! Thank you for saving me from giving up sewing! I don’t do much at all, I’m no seamstress but I like to dabble every now and then! This video is GOLD! Thank you and God bless you for sharing this wisdom.

I wish they would put larger throats on sewing machines. The throat needs to be large enough and tall enough to work with bulky objects like quilts. "Heavy duty" is a lot less important if you can't work large objects on the machine.

Just started watching the videos is there anything within like a 300,500 range for a guy that likes to make wallets and belts. I used to get into doing some out of work I was sketched up some patterns... I'm not above a hand stitch I'm not above it. Honestly if you only you know do a few I used to make shoes too that were hand-stitched. I see those little $100 hand crank options that they say they use for cobbling. I had an old saddle machine that would do shoes but man. People break into your house to get stuff like that around here I found one that was old it took me a while to get the parts to fix it I sold it to a guy I thought he was just going to steal it

I had that old saddle machine I found a guy that had parts and then soon as he had my address he was right over there drilling over it it was more than I needed I just used it to stitch up some shoes😂😂😂... He just had a couple parts and honestly he said he wanted to see it but he was sitting outside of her house looking through the freaking window to see if he could see it he gave us the Willies. It was fair money. For whatever that thing was at the time I can't even remember it's been so long ago but it would stitch just about anything. I just don't get into the old stuff anymore if you find parts and you find some weirdo that's got the parts. Oftentimes it's bait to finish whatever they're working on or something I don't know it's just too much. I found it at a place that they were just getting rid of stuff at an estate sale or something I can't remember it was old it was missing some stuff

I remember one other thing about that machine it had like these heads that you can change out... For the different thicknesses like I had three or four maybe more the lady had found the rest of the stuff that went with it. She brought it over to our place and dropped it off. She couldn't find it but there was a guy there that took and I bought the machine he was trying to get it off of me he found one of the Jaws and he just wanted one jaw for whatever reason... I had a guy that made me a custom-made hunting rifle. At first he took it was like a pusher it kept breaking The Pusher off. So he fixed it he tig welded it back together... And then you know it broke a couple times so in the bottoms of the shoes to the top and then he took and made me a new piece out of some kind of metal he had a water jet... Also he worked on watches so it was something that he liked to do... I used to get into some watch repairs but you know that brought around stray dogs too... But I had the sky make the parts he did it a couple times and then he said well you know I can't guarantee it and if he couldn't guarantee it he wouldn't do it... I said I really don't care I just like to use it I just got into putting bottoms on the tennis shoes and stuff like that and making my own stuff... But this guy you know eventually came around he had some more other pieces that went with it and he had some of the pushers and he said that's the problem with the machine so eventually you know we agreed on some money I couldn't keep getting the parts fixed and then he made a better Pusher and it started breaking stuff... It was sloppy wore out. The old timer that had it he did a lot with it so he wore it out they had one that they were keeping... could you tell me the name of a machine that's like that where you got the Jaws that you can change out I mean some of those jobs were like. 12 in and then they made deeper ones too I can't remember it's been a long time ago. I remember the needles were really expensive some of them were the size of a either a 8 penny nail a 16 penny nail... It was crazy. What I didn't like about it whenever you would stitch a shoe down to the soul even with wax twine it would get your feet wet if you got in the puddles or something... Either I didn't know how to use it but I would love to know what kind of sewing machine that would have been. It had like a some kind of little dimple machine finish on it it was nice. It was just wore out

I purchased a refurbished Janome machine from Ken’s Sewing in Muscle Shoals, Al. The first machine I received the bobbin winding knob was frozen. I sent it back per Ken’s instructions. The cost to send back was 85.00. Ken’s evaluated the machine, diagnosed the problem and asked for 135.00, plus shipping to fix the machine. After many discussions I paid for the labor and Ken’s shipped. The machine I received was NOT the same machine I sent in. Not only was the machine scratched up, but the attachment arm for accessories was missing a hinge. I desperately needed to finish a project and decided to use the machine, as is. It worked fantastically, until I tried loading a new bobbin. This time the bobbin rewind knob released, however the needled of the machine continues to go up and down. I feel that Janome machines are temperamental. I would NEVER again purchase a refurbished anything… especially from a sketchy company that is out of state from me.

Thank you for this great video. I made a pattern for a hip-pack in Illustrator and I made sure the length of the joining edges are equal, but when I ofset the lines of the pattern pieces to create seam allowances, the length of the edges that should join now sometimes don’t match anymore. Should I match the length of the sewing lines, or the length of the outside edges. Thanks for your help!

Would love to see a camera bag that is the best combination of lightweight, sturdy, durable, and has rear access only to the camera (the side that touches your back). Right now I have the Mindshift backlight 26L which is the best I could find but at the same time it is overpriced, a bit heavy for traveling and walking all day with, and the external pockets are ok but do not expand so it is limited what you can put in them. It would be great to have something of the same quality but lighter, maybe a touch smaller but still able to hold a large lens on a camera body (maybe 13” in length max). An additional lens like a 24-70, and a some accessories. I have many ideas for the perfect travel bag. Another option is a camera bag that fits the personal item measurements for airplanes. Now that they are charging extra for carry ons, a bag that would fit camera gear and a lap top while conforming to their “personal item measurement” of 16x6x13 inches would be great.

I've tried my bottom tension over 50 times I did the string hold got it to do what he said and it's still as bad, the bottom is just full of lose loops, I've been sewing for 40 odd years, I had a lovely 1970s singer that was my mums never had an issue with it, and it got stolen, these new cheaper plastic singers are useless, almost every day there's a problem, I feel like chucking it and giving up sewing, I feel like crying it's just so frustrating when you've spent 3hrs and still not sewn a pocket 😢😢 on my lining for my crochet tote bag I've made, just don't know what to do....

1. You dont need a tape for seam allowance marker. The right side edge of the machine foot should be the proper seam allowance. This is how they work in the professional mass production. 2. First way to make it easy is cheating with seam length. When you design it, the lengths of corresponding seams are equal. However if you make the less rounded edge seam longer, it will be much easier, because seam allowance creates the stress area, and now you can stretch it easier. For example, for small radius of a rounded corner, for the corresponding straight part I add 2 mm for seam length. CLO 3D will show it ugly, but in real life it will work just fine. 3. Second way to make it easy is more notches! You did just three (ends of rounded area plus the center). Why waste time to find the centers of the small areas when you can create notches? Make six instead of three, for example. Also more notches will make it easier because more cuts on the fabric edge will let you stretch the stressed area easier.

The Husqvarna Viking Emerald 116 & 118 is a Janome in Husqvarna skin. I do not know the Janome equivalent but the Emerald has sewn thru 14 layers of denim and sewn thru WOOD. The the price range and low number of stitches I would go with a Emerald 118 but 116 would do.
