Lena!! Thanks for sharing this. I'm not a black woman however, I AM a 36, almost 37 year old Mom of 2 who went from a corporate job to losing that job to finding any job to support my family and now I am unhappy to the point I'm in tears daily. I know I deserve much better and I am too smart to waste away at a job I feel worthless at. I want to go for an Office Manager position but I'm so nervous. I know I can do it- I have the skills and the knowledge and if a company would be willing to train me and give me the opportunity, despite me not having Office Manager experience or a degree of any kind, I know I could do it. So depressed over this all and I am nervous how my life will turn out if I don't find better... if I don't get my foot in the door somewhere who will give me the opportunity. There is no future or growth for me at this current company and I know I deserve better. My family deserves better and not to struggle. I deserve to be compensated for the hard work I do each day and I am unfortunately not being fairly compensated. Really hope I find the courage, strength and opportunity very soon. I know I can't do this much longer. I appreciate you sharing all of this! ❤

do you have any tips on what to look for in jobs or how to find/talk to recruiters?Because I just graduated with degrees engineering & visual arts and im just having trouble finding companies/roles that aren’t asking for 7+ years of experience. im very open to learning & expanding my knowledge in areas like you mentioned

You may have to get comfortable with the idea of not exactly working directly in your field or desired roles at first to build up more experience that could be leveraged later. Attending networking events (you can look at eventbrite) or connecting with your alumni center (if your Alma mater has one) can be really useful too!

Hi, Since you got housing as apart of your full ride package, was your on campus housing guarenteed for all four years? Did you get your private room placement?

My housing was guaranteed all four years, you just have to pay the difference if you don’t stay in a traditional dorm. So my last two years i stayed in off campus apartments and just received the part of my housing in a refund check
