The Cruz ending was disappointing to me. I assumed they were setting her up for like a end credits scene with McQueen coaching her, not the bs we got.

I really wanted a rocky story with McQueen. I was hoping for it, then we got that weird ending.

Let me rewrite the story that fufills 3 check points: 1 ✅Mcqueen claims his vet glory one last time before he retires 2 ✅Cruz becomes his student and Mcqueen fills the mantle to Hudson 3 ✅We accept the Storm is a new gen McQueen but he never had the detour mcqueen had. He is impressive but cocky, not entirely an asshole. We wanna respect him but not root for him Storm is introduced to not only be a new gen car that is faster because hes built that way but also shows that hes got talent even compared to the other new gens. We see him studying mcqueen, weaving thru the other rookies. Mcqueen loses the same way, gets pissed, crashes. Storm shares his condolences but says something about mcqueen shouldnt return because his time is up. ✅(We now see storm as an impressive kid but we dont hate him. Simply that hes a force of nature, an environment that mcqueen has to over come) Everything goes the same and Mcqueen trains with cruz, except it isnt gonna be cringe and childish. Cruz shows him a few things he can improve, mcqueen is stubborn to his old ways and tries to prove cruz wrong in a race. Cruz refuses as she says shes good with theory but not good with practice and says shes tried (hinting about her past racing attempts). Mcqueen says that he'll listen if cruz gives it a shot. She races mcqueen in an empty track at midnight and puts up an impressive performance but loses because she has to think instead of simply act because mcqueen has muscle memory. Mcqueen criticise her, that shes no good and shes all book no hands. Mcqueen crosses the line and say something hurtful, it is then that all the dots connect and we see cruz visibly hurt. She "storms" off and revving her engine loudly as Mcqueen is left there thinking about his actions and remembering about the hints that she mightve had a racing past before. The next night he comes to the same track and trains again, only to here a redlining V8 scream across the track. He hurries to find out who it is and find out its Cruz. The burn marks on the fresh tracks proved that she has been going on the track for at least hundreds of laps-practicing her theory. ✅ (We now respect Cruz for her dedication, also throws back to mcqueen fixing a road all night in the first movie as a full circle moment. Cruz's racing past is also hinted and realized by mcqueen like he finds out about hudson instead of Cruz' original monologue which was out of the blue.) Mcqueen apologizes to Cruz and says he has an idea to help them bond and practice. They go to thunder hollow and find hudson's old crew, listen to his legacy and races on an old track practicing cruz' theory and building experience with mcqueen. We then get an exposition from Cruz about draft and how you can sling shot to achieve greater speeds at the straight run. Cruz demonstrates as she tails mcqueen and zooms right past him even though she is only a little bit faster in top speed. The 2 return to the date of the race, mcqueen offers to coach Cruz from the start but Cruz insists he races but there can only be one car who can take the number. It is this time where dinoco jumps in, offers a sponsorship. Mcqueen is then stripped of his paint, and puts on a fresh King inspired paint job from dinoco. Cruz adorns her yellow rusteze and 95 number. She and mcqueen bumps tires and races against each other, working their ways up the track. Cruz is completely overwhelmed and is dead last while Mcqueen works his way up to top 10. Cruz is pit stopped by guido while mcqueen has a slightly slower pit but still impressive. McQueen laps Cruz and tells her about her training and his, and how her theory was what made him better. This motivates cruz and she picks up the pace. She works her way up the ladder as so mcqueen. Mcqueen pushes himself up to 2nd, right behind storm. He struggles to catch up with him but storm slows down to give him a smartass remark about how its impressive that hes made it all the way to 2nd place. Its a nod to his skill, yes, but also a mockery to his age. Storm speeds up to leave mcqueen behind him but he cant seem to lose him as mcqueen tails right behind him, telling him how mirror polished his rear paint is and how hes being blinded by his own kachow. Storm is pissed trying to shake mcqueen off but mcqueen is using the draft to follow right behind him for a while lap, making him regret ever slowing down to taunt him. At the straight before the finish line, mcqueen drops a gear and redlines his engine, we see an undershot of mcqueen zipping by as his exhaunt is literally glowing red hot. Hes about to explode, he upshifts and slowly moves up next to storm as he stick his tongue out to win by half an inch at the finish line. ✅We all see that mcqueen gave it all he got, using all the tricks in the world to beat storm and that storm wouldve won if he hadnt slowed down to taunt mcqueen, showing us that he was truly talented and impressive. Mcqueen goes full circle to his first win with the tongue. Using the draft that Cruz taught him. We finally accept that Mcqueen is old and this is the last time he can ever pull this win off because storm wont ever make the same mistake again. Cruz finishes at 8th place and is being recognized as the upcoming shiny rookie. She doesnt win right away because thats unrealistic but is still really impressive. Cruz's boss is still mad that she raced because thats not in her contract and that hes gonna fire her if she doesnt go back to training. Dinoco intervenes and sponsors her instead, giving her the iconic blue and yellow but this time its a blue cloud with a yellow lightning, giving homage to mcqueen. Cruz also gets a rusteze sponsor as well, giving her a King/mcqueen aesthetic. Mcqueen retires, gets a dark blue paint and calls himself the fabulous lightning McQueen. Fucking cheesy and iconic. He coaches cruz as a dinoco coach/mentor and guido is now the pitstop for dinoco and teaches the dinoco pitstop team, now everyone is crazy fast and dinoco has the fastest pitstop in all of racing history. The movie ends with cruz racing side by side with storm, both of them playfully taunting each other and the movie cuts right at the finish line, giving us an open ending in whether or not cruz won that race. ✅(Mcqueen gets his legacy fufilled as does Hudson. Cruz is now not just a cringe secret talent and wins her first race but is shown to be winning in both her hardwork, knowledge and coach by mcqueen). Storm is still impressive as a 1 man show and Cruz is giving it her all just to be next to him. There you go, Cars 3 is fixed.

The perfect ending would be McQueen calling out the other racers who were fired and setup a race on the same day. Showing that everyone finds the older cars much more interesting than the new technological but boring cars.

Never cared much for 3. Good story but nowadays I see it as early signs of disney going woke Lightning cant beat storm cause he's a next gen, Cruz is a normal car and yet she is somehow not only able to do the same flip trick she heard about days prior but somehow surpasses Storm in speed? Early signs of woke disney. Good movie but the ending makes me roll my eyes. With this generation of Disney I cant see Disney movies the same. They used to be good but you can see them slowly transcending into wokeness as time went on

There is another option: Engine rebuild. Given how slow he was going, it's reasonable to assume that he hasn't undergone any replacement to his engine, besides perhaps after the crash. Given that next gens are the majority of racers now, I'm fairly certain the rules were updated to accommodate that, meaning McQueen has the possibility to upgrade his engine, perhaps even go back to the spoiler he had during Cars 2 because that's more aerodynamic and all the other cars have that style of spoiler now.

I also would liked the drafting option. That was the build up throughout the whole movie. But I believe we can still get McQueen to retire after he wins, his last win, his last race and announce in an interview or whatever that Cruz will take his place after.

Lightning in his prime was considered the fastest but when matter got that boost, it basically gave lightning a temporary boost.

Imagine if doc had recorded a message for mcqueen before he died to teach mcqueen how to beat someone faster than him. Maybe even a recording to coach him through his race as he was racing. Telling him when to pit, when to push etc. Obviously it wouldn't be able to happen because doc's voice actor died but I think it would have been a beautiful last send off for doc and it would give mcqueen a good reason to retire after that race to coach cruise

My real complaint with the 3rd movie outside lightning not officially winning is that as he got older he got slower, but they're cars. wouldn't it be wise for say Rusty's to keep Lightning in his best condition to guarantee a win? I mean like He got slower as time went on. he was much faster in the first and second film.

Cars 2 Mcqueen is faster than before because he has his Restrictor plates removed because he was set up for street racing, he would have had them reinstalled for cars3 for safety and not to be disqualified.

He is the fastest in cars 3. Its kinda the whole point of the film. He gets up to his hires ever speed but it's not enough to beat the faster electric cars. Just bc there faster than him doesn't mean he wasn't the fastest he had ever been

The governing body of The Hudson Hornet Cup is really dropping the ball... er... gasket. If they are to be like Nascar, they would not have let this slide because of parody. All the cars have to be the same. So either everyone must be restricted to allow the generation of cars like McQueen to catch up, or have the cars like McQueen be able to upgrade to catch up to the next gen cars. McQueen should just go make his own league and they would garner more fans and ratings on TV then the boring next gen cars... Kind of sounds familiar... The Xfinity series on average had better quality of racing than what the Cup series had. So, McQueen could start something similar and still be able to race

I don't know much about racing but assuming McQueen's top speed is 196 or 198 mph, he can't go past that without losing control (Reason why he crashed in Cars 3) or risking his head gasket blowing up (or other severe mechanical failures). His engine simply can't produce enough power and his rpm is probably redlining. He is also a custom built racecar so I don't think he can lose anymore weight to go faster. He really just had to retire.

Mqueen wasnt slow at all in cars three. The only cars faster than him was storm and cruz, not any of the other modified cars that ousted all his friends.
