Man im currently studying for graphic design cause thats my passion i like it was either that or music and i plan on doing trade school to be a electrician but ive been thinking of doinf airforce for along time but then i feel like i dont need to do all that if my school is already paid for and i can be an electrician without going to the military i was only going for the discpline and to be a better me but i can always do that without joining so im debating still right now

@@bradahed3201 nope they give you college credits and experience, the one downside to this career. Though you won’t get credentialing, the benefits is super worth it. Cheap healthcare, free education, traveling, paid during training, veteran benefits, free gym, free food, respect, camaraderie, employer preference and so much more

@@chillboymiggy : For any one in the electrical AFSC who wants to work civilian , they must know the NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE - most states have certifications based on nec tests. Teach your self how to bend EMT, get that bender and do 90's, 3 point & 4 point saddles . Plan reading !! With out solid quick skills in the said areas you will not work !!! .

Its hard to get into the power lineman union in california. Looking in joining the airforce to get the military experience. Veterans get to be put on book 1 as a groundman automatically, then you can work your way up to join powerlineman apprenticeship one day.

Air national guard. Especially in California you will be collecting insane BAH while you are in training. If you go with the airforce electrician tech school that is 8 months of probably 6k a month for you!

Going in as a reservist, would I get deployed a lot in this career choice? I know if you do HVAC, you’d get deployed a lot. I don’t want to get deployed a lot because I want to keep my civilian job and be close to family.

Yes you would get a lot of opportunities to deploy. But you’re in the reserves? Why would you be worried about deploying? Don’t you choose if you want to go or not? If you don’t want to get deployed try going to a desk job like finance, contracting, intel. They don’t deploy a lot. It’s usually CE (civil engineering), services, security forces squadrons that deploy a lot

I think someone with a bachelors should join the reserves/guard. One you have the flexibility to use your degree on the outside while you’ve acquired the benefits of the military (cheap healthcare, went to tech-school to learn the skill, tuition assistance etc.) 2nd off if you don’t like active duty you’re stuck there. Unlike active duty in the reserves if you find out you don’t like it, you’re only doing it for once a month, oppose to active duty it’s basically you’re whole life for the next 4-6 years. But definitely, if you do reserves, and then find a good government job with your bs, you’ll be set to earn 2 retirements.

What do you mean by rate? I think this would be the only one that could translate to becoming a civilian electrician. The next closest I could think of would be electrical and environmental systems on airplanes. That’s one of the occupations in the airforce

Not many people in the government know their trade to be honest bro. I don’t even have a licensed master electrician in my workplace. Though if you want more exposure and more benefits to being an electrician with opportunities to travel, I highly recommend joining the airforce Gaurd/reserves. They’ll get you good benefits for you and your family. You’ll definitely learn a wide variety of electrical knowledge in the airforce, but never narrow and solid experience within the government.

Are electrical services and electrical / wire systems maintenance the same? They don’t have the same specialty code but I can’t find anything on 2E1XX, 2E2XX, or 2E6XX but did find information on 3E0XX electrical services. Asking because I’m trying to retrain into one of these

3E0X1 is basically an electrician for buildings and distribution systems, not sure about what wire systems is. 3E0X1 should be called Electrical Systems

Yes we do lineman stuff for electrical systems. We have a portion set for exterior (lineman) in technical training (which comes after basic training). If you plan on doing active duty you are expected to do interior, exterior and airfield. Nah I’m not in the usmap program. I believe the airforce isn’t included but I’m not sure. I heard theirs a way to document your hours as an airforce electrician but I’m not the person to ask that question

@@chillboymiggy *You were correct about the Airforce not having a USMAP program. Only available for Army, Navy, Marine and coast guard. I was told every base has a Education center, so maybe speak to them about available apprenticeship programs. I'm assuming you are in a four year contract, you'll at least should have done 8,000 hours by the time you finish your four years. Thats enough for a journeyman cert. Saves you alot of time and effort once you go into the civilian work field. This is what I'm gonna do through the Marines USMAP program as a 6432 avionics/electronics technician. It's important to have documentation of your hours*

Good advice man idk why but a lot of people I know don’t pay their credit card in full every month and get mad at the credit card company’s or say the system is against them when the interest adds up when’s it’s easy to build good credit and use the card to their advantage if they are responsible and make good decisions

Airforce my guy but if you wanna be an electrician on boats and planes that’s different a different job than 3E0X1. 3E0X1 gets to work on buildings, power lines, the airfield. Basically all electrical other than planes, boats, etc.

@@chillboymiggy what’s your plans when you get out to be a electrician or a power-line worker and how would the Air Force help you on transitioning out I’m in high-school and I’m still deciding if I should go military or just go straight into looking for a power line worker apprenticeship
