There was one hawk raised by eagles in Canada. The young hawk had other eaglets. They said the hawk would have been a meal for the eaglets but they were all well fed. The hawk has not seen after fully fledging from the nest.
@lets_go_birding90963 күн бұрын
Yes, I heard about that. This last eagle season, it happened again in San Luis Batista, California. This time, the tiny red-tailed hawk got beat up and knocked out of the nest. Luckily, photographers were there to rescue it and it was successfully rehabbed and released into the wild.

At 1:02:00 can the front button set-up be done on the R5 mark0 ? I can't figure it out, yet I'm unsure how the front button set-up is to be used. On the R5 I have to hold in the back button for eye tracking while I hit the shutter.

Hello, you can set the original EOS R5 up exactly the same way. I have a detailed video on that as well which you can find at this link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/enzaZnRvm6plg5o

isn't electronic shutter more noisy for image? if it is, what would be worce effect in dark, extra noise or shutter shock I am wondering
@lets_go_birding90968 күн бұрын
I have not found any noise difference between electronic, electronic first curtain, and mechanical. The problem with the slower sensored cameras and electronic shutter is rolling shutter, which is a problem with birds in flight- Especially hummingbirds. This is why use electronic first curtain predominantly with all of the Canon Mirrorless cameras I have, except for the EOS R5 Mii, which has a stack sensor and has no trouble with rolling shutter drop down to 12 bit.
@jadie1234a9 күн бұрын
Do you think there is more dynamic range in 1st curtain electronic than in electronic shutter? Can you even notice it?
@lets_go_birding90968 күн бұрын
That's a really good question. I'm working on a dynamic range video right now in which I used predominantly electronic shutter. I'll have to do a segment comparing electronic to electronic first curtain, so I can answer your question :-) Thanks for the video idea!

Hi I'v come from the 5d mk4 and I liked using my exposure lock with auto ISO and it stayed on with no problem for 30 minutes max, if I was in a certain position say using the ground in front of me or a wall and I was + 1 stop and using the DOF button to lock and unlock my exposure. it was easy just to point unlock and relock as the light changed. I knew if a bird flew past a place from say sky down past the trees my exposure would be right. but I dont seam to be able to lock the exposure on my R5 Mk2 and keep it as it just keeps turning itself off.
@lets_go_birding90967 күн бұрын
Hello. I don't use that feature, so I don't know what the potential problems could be. Sorry about that. I shoot in full manual and occasionally use auto ISO and never have any trouble getting exposure correct or at least close enough that I can fix it and post.

You refer to a warning about impact on AF performance if you turn on the blackout free display or depth of filed simulation. I don't get them and don't see them in the manual. What do you refer to?

A very comprehensive review, thanks. It is particularly useful with renewed interest in the R5 following release of the R5ii. I shoot mostly birds, and I love my R7/RF100-500 for its combination of reach and resolution. But I recently bought the R5 as a full-frame body, to take advantage of great sale prices since the R5ii was introduced. I am a bit mystified by the assertion that there are only 2 control rings on the R7. Since all RF lenses come equipped with a lens ring (as does the pricier EF-RF adaptor), I just set the lens control ring for aperture control, which should feel very natural to anyone who ever used an SLR. PS: I'm told that the "release shutter without card" menu option allows customers to "test" the camera in the store, without a card, which is not included. This also explains the default ON position "
@lets_go_birding90967 күн бұрын
Thank you, I'm glad the video was helpful. I'm glad that set up work for you. For me, I tried to put aperture on the control ring of my 100 - 500 and it just didn't work - I kept hitting it by mistake. I just ended up adjusting aperture from the LCD screen. I'm so grateful for three control rings in the R6 mark ii, R5 and R5 mark ii.

I really like the very detailed explanation of all the features. That said, if you would just have reffered back to your previous video for the full setup this video could have been 40 minutes shorter. 😅 I have the buttons set up very similarly to your suggestions now because of this video so I really appreciate all the effort you put into it! Question though: when you set up the locked small af point to a button, how do you deal with composition? You can't easily move the box around while keeping that button pressed, so unless the thing to focus on is dead center it won't work right? Or am I missing something there? I solve this by only using the m-fn button to switch to the locked spot af mode and then positioning with eye control or by using the joystick. You never ended up explaining the caveat with setting the lcd screen toggle button to a different function (unless I missed it). I suspect it has to do with it's placement so close to other buttons that you can easily mistake them. Thanks again for all this. I understand a lot of functions much better now, and have a much better grasp on how to set up the camera. There are just so many options and concepts to understand here. It's great, but also difficult sometimes. :)
@lets_go_birding90967 күн бұрын
I'm glad the video was helpful for you. I just use the multi-controller (joystick) to position the locked spot autofocus box wherever I wanted - works fine for me that way. You would have to non-start the autofocus for second or two while you get the spot autofocus box where you want to be. I use the shutter button to start my autofocus, but I can see how it might be awkward if you using triple back button autofocus star. Well that explains it! Thanks for letting me know about that release shutter without card - that makes sense. I thought I went through that little landmine but I guess I didn't. If you depress the illumination button And hold it for a few seconds, it will set that autofocus box up permanently in whatever position it was in when you depressed it. Then, it annoyingly blinks in the background all the time. I accidentally did that and it took me a while to figure out what happened and how to turn it off. If that blinking autofocus box ever pops up, all you have to do is push down the rectangle button and the mode button simultaneously and it disappears.

Awesome video. Just one thing thou. I understand that a lot of people have a muscle memory from DSLR era and that they are disabling AF on shutter button. But what I actually found out is that you do not need to do that if you are using back button focusing. If you press a back button to engage AF and then if you press shutter button (it has half-press AF capability turned ON), the shutter button will not override focus you had with back button. Canon's engineers actually thought about this and it works great.
@thesharpercoderАй бұрын
Has anyone answered your DOF question, yet? You do not see the “true depth of field” while the camera is focusing because the camera focus at maximum aperture, which provides the most light to the AF sensor.
@viviennenoble4035Ай бұрын
When you are showing the focus areas you go up to the whole screen as the focus area. On my R5 with Canon EF 100-400 and ef 1.4 extender, I can only go to the large horizontal box. I have tried to find the larger area, but it won't show it. I would love to know how to find it.
@lets_go_birding9096Ай бұрын
Hummm? Does it work without the extender? Is the extender the Mark iii version? I don't have the EF 100-400mm, so I can't speak from experience. Just make sure that the whole screen AF box (called face + tracking) is "checked" in this menu: AF (pink menu) > submenu #4 > Limit AF Methods.

I bought the EF 300mm f4 recently, I find it is sharper than any of the EF 100-400’s, but it’s still a little lacking in sharpness compared to modern RF telephotos, for the price it’s still a steal. I’ve been curious about the 400mm f4 DO and the 300mm f2.8, this video was wonderful.

Now having seen the final results with a shutter speed of only 1/500th sec none of the photos were tack sharp. As a "general" rule of thumb a shutter speed equivilent to the size of the focal length should be used, so for the 1600. mm, a shutter speed of 1/6000 should be used, for the 800mm an1/800th of a second used. Sorry but this is NOT a good test. Use a tripod or a MUCH faster shutter speed
@gordonyoung19702 ай бұрын
I have never used the RF tele converter but used the EF 1.4 mk3 with my EF L100-400, the results were incredibly good and vastly superior to the older mk 2 version. hand holding though at those ranges there MUST be some camera movement, even with a fast shutter speed. ONLY on a tripod can this be an accurate test

I Have just had my canon RF100. when switching on, straight away switches off saying its overheated , and thats from the camera bag no shots taken. Now im in Scotland and the current ambient temp is less than 15c indoors no heating on so just natural room temp. . First time EVER I have had this problem in about 10 different canon Models. Now I also have the R8, so for no real reason swapped over the batteries ( both the batteries that came with the cameras) so both Canon batteries fully charged , the R100 worked prefectly, as did the R8 with the battery that came from the R100. I just swapped them back again, this time no problem ? Now how can it overheat from the switch on , no photos taken at all, never used for video its only 2/3 months old. Ive never had the R8 overheat in stills, never tried it yet in video , but 200/300 stills in an hour was no problem

@lets_go_birding90962 ай бұрын
Hello, if you are using back button AF, you can't access/apply any of the other AF function, unless you put them on one of the back buttons (re-assign it). If you use front button AF, then you can access anything you want. I describe how to set that up in this updated R5 video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/enzaZnRvm6plg5o Go to the table of contents to find the front and back button AF setup.
