Love this video, also watched your two hour video, I’ve understood the second video better second time round, this has all been a steep learning curve, having watched you assign all the buttons to your preferences, I’d appreciate if you could do a video showing yourself actually using those settings in the field, especially when changing options for autofocus settings on the fly ( I’m one of those watch and learn guys), I think I have it ingrained in my brain, but actually watching you executing these procedures would be great for the not so technically minded ( that’s me). A brilliant resource that I will return to a lot, thanks for your great work and efforts in producing these comprehensive videos - very much appreciated.

I agree. Need to be on the field or show us how to or when to use the 3 buttons AF, I have been using back buttons for years and the only difference on his 3 buttons AF is by assigning the shutter button to AF also. On the ON-AF button on the sub menu he turned off tracking but didn’t turn ON eye detection, Subject detention.

Great summary video! I looked at it today after watching your two-hour video yesterday and it reinforced the important items in my mind. I'll probably keep doing that until I don't have to think about much of this anymore. Thanks again!!!

Great video, I bought an R7 a few months ago and am still getting use to the settings, in particular the auto focus and tracking. Your video helped a great deal, cheers ..

Your 2 video about the R7 have helped me to really see what is all in this camera. My new settings are so much more quick to access, adjust and my keeper rate has gone up. Be well and thanx for these videos.

Very nice video. Thank you. Looks like you cannot save custom settings to a file that could be re-loaded if need be like you can on the R5. Hope that will be added in a update.

Great job on this video. After I follow all the suggestions in your video I cannot get the focus beep to work. I have checked the volume. Thanks! (Figured it out: Focus beep only works in one shot AF.)

Glad you figured it out:-) I never even knew there was a focus beep (never shoot in one shot).

Is it possible to install your bird catching controls, to the C1 mode…….leaving M mode available? Thank you

After the 2 hour video (yes, I watched all of it) you had me about to look for something simpler but it becomes intuitive. Being taught the right way is best but at 85, I am now wondering will I be able to master this.

Hello, You are watching the "EOS R7 quick setup guide," which is for more advanced users. Please watch this one (see link), which moves much more slower and is for folks not familiar with canon mirrorless cameras. Give this a try:-) kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYq7n6iGpKuKnLM

Excellent presentation If you need to do manual over-ride in the event spot focus fails, I presume you go to full manual mode In the R6 mk2 I can do manual over-ride in AF mode if I use double BBF
@lets_go_birding9096 Жыл бұрын
Yes, if all AF fail (e.g., early morning or late evening or heavy brush), then you switch over to manual focus by switching that setting on your lens or the switch around your DOF button.

@24:22 My shutter mode is now greyed out as well as “release shutter without card”. I think I accidentally did a boo-boo there, how can I undo that so “release shutter without card” is not greyed out? Also, I assume all these settings will stay when camera is shut off?? Is there a way to lock them? New to this camera…. Thanks for any help 😉

Awesome video! Thanks! One of the best on R7 bird photography setting. You dedicated the M-Fn button for AF point select. How do you do Exposure Compensation? For me I find that Exposure Compensation is something I need to access more quickly and more often.
@lets_go_birding9096 Жыл бұрын
I'm glad the video was helpful! Really like my R7 and use it much more than my R5! I don't use exposure compensation at all--just never works out for me. I just make sure I don't overexpose the scene and adjust any underexposure in post.

Firstly, I bought an R7 earlier this year and this video has been very helpful. Secondly, sorry you left NorCal Birding. I miss your wonderful photos. Lastly, last Xmas I bought my wife the Canon 100-500 L lens for her R6. She's thinking about getting the 1.4 teleconverter. I recall you doing some comparisons and was wondering if you would recommend it, or not? I hope all is well and thank-you.

I'm glad the video was helpful! I used to like that site too, but some of those people were not very nice about the Tuffy ending, so it was better to pull back to my facebook page where I could block them. You are certainly welcome to come over to my page--It's got the full report and ending to the lola story plus my usual birds:-) Unlike the R5, the low megapixelled R6 definitely needs the help of the 1.4 TC--she should be really happy with it.
@doggonedean5314 Жыл бұрын
@@lets_go_birding9096 Thank-you for the 1.4 TC answer. Also, I remember the ignorance displayed by so many people during the Tuffy ll saga. I exercised the use of the FaceBook BLOCK command on a number of such folks. There are nearly 40k members now, I my list of Blocked folks is quite long. All the best, Dean Featherstone.

nice video . . . one question however: if you set shutter botton to "metering" and BBF on EYE-AF, you should press all 2 buttons to have metering+af because pressing only eye-af will not do any metering at all?
@lets_go_birding9096 Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Because the recognition and subject tracking are so darn good in the EOS R7, R8, R10 and R62, I've stopped using back button focusing. Nowadays, I just half-press the shutter button (stock setting) to start autofocus and full press and hold to take the picture. Once subject recognition has grabbed onto a bird, tracking will keep it locked on target - even if it goes outside of the boundaries of your autofocus area (a.k.a., autofocus point, autofocus box, autofocus method). Although its true when you release the full press you disengage autofocus, you can quickly half-press again to reacquire your target. I found its much easier to start autofocus with that big shutter button, compared to one of the tiny back buttons. When I'm in a situation where recognition and tracking just aren't working, Then I quickly need to turn off recognition and tracking so I can have an old school autofocus point/area/box where the autofocus system does not leave the perimeter of the box - usually spot focus is what I set up on the AF on button without any tracking or any recognition. On the star button, I will set that up so it also, when pushed down and held, disengages/stops recognition and tracking, as well as brings up a larger autofocus area/point. I also set up the M-fn button to toggle between the different autofocus points, which is very useful. I hoped that helps :-)

I set up my r7 like the tripple button focus. When is the best time or scenario in bird in flight to turn on the eye detection, and on AF-ON sub menu is that need to be checked and selected?
@lets_go_birding9096 Жыл бұрын
I toggle eye detection on/off via the DOF button in the right front but rarely have it on with birds, unless they are really close and you can easily see their big eye. I don't want it hunting for an eye when I know it can't find it--wastes time:-)
@peterb.743710 ай бұрын
@@lets_go_birding9096 I totally agree. By trying to find the eyes that far is really a waste of effort. Better to keep the AF point does the tracking and when it gets closer it is time to activate

I have bought this camera with 100-500 lens for bird photography. and I frequently watch this vdo and try to execute in the field. Birds in flight I am facing some issues,not so accurate..often out of focus..I jumped from nikon dslr so this eye auto focus off/on ,I forget in the field.shd I off it in birds in flight?
@lets_go_birding9096 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I would turn off "eye autofocus," for birds in flight. Also, try using the "whole screen" as the autofocus area. Also make sure subject tracking is on and subject detection ("subject to detect") is on and set to animals. That RF100-500 is a very good lens for birds in flight, so you should be getting lots of keepers. Also try pumping the shutter button at first, just incase it did not lock on the bird at first. Once you see the bird sharp in the view finder, then keep holding down the shutter button. Also, use "electronic first curtain" as the shutter mode, and highspeed continuous+ (plus) as the drive mode. Good luck!
