The white 80 with the alien face on the bow looks awesome but my money would go to this 60. It's strong enough to handle 8-10s yet nimble enough to take the tight turns. With MTU 2400s it will power through almost any sea.

Indeed the arc is way more handsome. There is not enough space for a third diesel in Magnum 70 engine room for a third diesel or for twin diesel and a turbine. I have seen twin CRM W18 with 2,000hp each or equivalent NTU. But also original Detroit Diesel can be tuned for 1,800 hp from 1,440 hp. The twin turbine option was twin Lycoming/Vericor TF40 with 4,500 hp each, it is a marine version of the T-55 used by the Chinook helicopter.
@dieseldog00
@dieseldog00 2 жыл бұрын
iirc the T55 makes 2750hp in stock power but can be tuned to at least 3000. The Spirit Of QATAR driver Sheikh Hassan al Thani, who holds the WR for propeller-driven boats @244mph, told me they used TF40s to set the record. The world speed record of 316.7mph was set in Australia by Ken Warby with a 10,000hp turbine.

Around that same time frame, there was also a Miami to NYC that Magnum won. Detroit AM radio host at WJR, JPMcCarthy was in the wining Magnum and reported they had a gourmet chef on board preparing meals for the crew.Very impressive boats.

Since Magnum is a custom builder you'd think they'd put the helm on the proper side. That would be hard to get used to.

For me the 70 is the most handsome boat Magnum builds. However, I do not like the contraption they built for the radar and such. I prefer the enclosed salon and flybridge for the radar. I had never seen a 70 in that configuration until several days ago. Makes good sense to me I like the enclosed salon for heavy weather boating with the upper helm for nice weather.

How many Magnum 70 with the twin turbine option built? I have never found a photo of the 70 Superfast in internet.
@dieseldog00
@dieseldog00 2 жыл бұрын
I think a better setup would be twin diesels with a turbine mounted between them. The 70 is a heavy boat(like all Magnums are)and the turbine would help in getting it on plane. Or maybe a third diesel if space allows.

@@TonyMontana-hb6uj some are cheaper than others. I just know my dad had a couple ski boats with inboard engines he ran on a lake up in new york and every winter they had to be winterized and stored which involved expensive fees, and every season bringing them out of storage there was something mechanical that went wrong on them without fail. The money spent on just those boats every year far exceeded what a car would cost. Depends probably where you live and what kind of boat. Small outboard craft cost far less and can be stored easily. A boat like this though, I'm sure would cost A LOT of money to maintain. Those marine engines will require a lot of maintenance especially in a salt water environment. Diesel mechanics and they'd probably come on site for repairs. I don't claim to be an expert but I'm betting it would be a pretty penny.
@TonyMontana-hb6uj

@@tlv156 Yes boating is expensive when you have Magnum 60. Maintaining just those engines costs around 70 000$ a year.

These boats are absolutely INCREDIBLE; built and bred for white water, with caps 😋. My brother had a 1986 27' center console with a Pinafarina console. As the story goes there were a total of 14 center consoles made; 5 having Pinafarina consoles. He rues the day he sold that boat 😞 ! I had it out a few times, air borne more than once 😉. It just kept pleasantly surprising me.; I couldn't resist putting it in the air. Great company, outstanding boats. Not too many companies left making custom hand made 24 ° deep v hull boats, of this quality. One of the very few ones, from Thunderboat Row; still there on 188th St in Miami. The 27', 35', 38', 40' & 45' are some of my all time favorites. These boats certainly look tough crawling along through a harbor; even tougher playing in white water! My father always told us: " When you buy a.boat, you buy it for worst case scenarios; never the best". He was right. Magnums don't & won't disappoint,,,,,,,😎.

I like what your father said and that's why when I hit the Lotto I want the Flybridge 70 with upper and lower helms. Crossing the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas is iffy weather at best. Keeping the Captain out of the rain is absolutely necessary.

Best of Breed; still making hand made Deep V 24° hulls today. No euro flared transoms & no step hulls. From all the offshore racing boat companies like Apache, Cigarette,, Donzi & Formula; to the best of my knowledge; Magnum Marine is the only boat company from that era still doing business on Thunderboat Alley in Miami today. My brother owned a Magnum 27' CC with the Pinafarina console. His only regret? He sold it. We had the boat airborne more than once! Landed like a champion each & every time,,,,,,,😎. Magnums don't disappoint.
