Coming from India, I can reasonably say that Edward Witten is a truly enlightened being. His resting face with a faint smile and upwardly rolled eyes make him look like someone who has 'cracked it' like the Buddha or a great yogi.

The glazing in this comment section is mind boggling. The is a human being not god and string theory is nonsense. They might as well turn it into a religion at this point and make this guy your god. THE KEY WORD IS THEORY. this guy cannot except the reality that the theory is full of flaws and contradictions.

Gedachten experiment 3 dimensionaal = lengte(afstand), breedte (afstand) , hoogte (afstand).

This is not the complete story. The problem is that string theory is NOT a finalised consistent theory. It simply has not delivered what it promised. M-theory is still a promise, but nobody knows if it even exists. Super symmetric particles have not been detected by the LHC. There are way too many solutions and degrees of freedom (10^500 being a popular number) and most importantly, there is no known way to reduce the number of dimensions to the 4 of Minkowski spacetime. The proposed “solutions” like brane theory and the multiverse combined with the antropic principle have not yet, to put it mildly, reached the plausibility threshold. This has been going on for the last 40 years or so. It’s time to seriously consider the possibility that string theory is (unfortunately) on the wrong track. The fact that Witten admits that he has no doubt in his mind (17:14), makes him a believer instead of a scientist. Check out Peter Woit, Sabine Hossenfelder or Edward Frenkel to hear the other side of the story (all three are brilliant scientists).

The guy is a beast of intellectual prowess, it's unfortunate that he put all of that into a dead theory. String theory is guaranteed funding + fun math, but absolutely no paradigm shifts, big discoveries or contributions to the world. Math isn't reality, it's a tool we use to try and map reality. Don't mistaken the map for the real world, it's a map.

Physics has a Rhythm & Harmony once you have the clarity and work within that rhythm the fluidity becomes apparent and magnetizing. I think the same way that the Quran rhymes math rhymes as well once you follow the rhythm .
