Listen dude. It’s been weeks. We NEED more heavy metal for Latter Day Saints. Brother Driskell. PLEASE. YOU ARE THE SOURCE. Nobody else heavy metals it the right way. I’m seriously willing to pay for an album. I’ll give you $50 RIGHT NOW BRO. What’s your Venmo/zelle? I need it. It’s not a want. It’s a need.

@epicredhead13 I originally just posted this video, so my grandmother could see it. I'm happy that so many other people are enjoying it over the past 4 to 5 years I decided to post this just for my grandmother. Lots of people have been asking for a new cover. Once I'm back in South Korea and reunited with my guitar. Then I might have to make another one, I think. :)

Dream Theater never had growling but they're still one of the biggest prog metal bands. But I agree with you
@adamdriskelldriskellmusic
@adamdriskelldriskellmusic Ай бұрын
You're about 95 percent correct. There are parts of their music were Dream Theater uses voice with distortion (gritty singing) and he does do pitched fry screaming (End of Octavarium Prophets of War post chorus section) But, their music takes dynamic changes more in their instrumental sections and LaBrie is good using his voice for more intimate moments. They tried to "scream" when Portnoy was in the band with Black Clouds and Silver Linings, but it missed the mark. At least for me it did.

@itssjenkins Ironically, I've kind of stopped doing this series. Because I didn't want to give people the wrong impression of me. But these are also hands down my best videos on KZbin. I know a lot of modern-day LDS and Mormon people are really interested in this kind of thing, and a lot of them are closeted metal heads. If there's demand for it, then I might continue doing it. But I haven't done one of these videos in about 2 or 3 years. Again. I just want to make sure that I'm being a man of integrity when it comes to this kind of thing. I don't want. People to think I'm LDS. I'm not. They are very good reasons for it. But if it gives other people within the LDS church some happiness, then I'm very okay with that. :)

I like both Death Metal and Prog Rock but Opeth was way more interesting as a Death Metal band versus now. Lost all interest after they switched genres.
@adamdriskelldriskellmusic
@adamdriskelldriskellmusic 3 ай бұрын
Same. And it wasn't because of the genre switch or even the lack of harsh vocals, but rather, what the band lacked without the vocals and the general production/songwriting of death metal. It is still possible to write very moody, dynamic music, Porcupine Tree for example, without ever once using a harsh vocal. If Opeth turned into PT 2.0, then that would had been sick, but it went into the direction it did.

Opeth turned from one of the most brilliant bands to one of the most bland and uninteresting bands within the span of an album and a half
@adamdriskelldriskellmusic
@adamdriskelldriskellmusic 3 ай бұрын
@IgorVonE Yeah, it's painfully true. As I talked about in the video, so much of their dynamics came from the death metal part of their sound. Which they more or less abandoned with more modern day music. A sizable number of musicians that I've worked with that's in the progmetal scene have influence from Opeth. Specifically, from the late 90s through early and mid 2000s Era.

@potatodude6273 As a songwriter and vocalist myself, I totally agree with you. That's more the perspective I was looking at it from.
